Mosel Meet.

Nor French. I've seen only one French Reg MH in all the time I was on the Mosel, and not seen one since. Dutch and Deustch abound of course.

For us, moving on from Mendig tomorrow, up to Dortmund. :)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Sorry our paths didn’t cross, this time.

Well we are parked by the River Moselle but we are in Luxembourg. At the Aire at Schwebsange, which is just over the French border. Seems that the main industry around here is selling cheap fuel to the French and Germans.

Will have a wander round later but only staying the one night. Any recommendations for tomorrow night would be gratefully received. Are there plenty of places available further along the river?

Where exactly is the aire, please. I only see an ACSI site on CC. Might try it tomorrow night, or possibly Sunday lunch.

Trier is supposed to be worth a visit if you like cities, Saarburg is supposed to be nice and not far for you, we will be visiting there in a day or two, Trittenheim, nice Stellplatz (left at the campsite), don’t miss Zell, Stellplatz by the footbridge is nearer to the town, Mehring is ok Stellplatz next to Beach cafe is cheaper, Wintrich, great restaurant near Stellplatz, Cochem busy town with shops etc but worth a visit, we stayed at Ernst and got the bus, just follow the river and stop where you fancy, there’s nearly always a Stellplatz in the nice places, and read this thread Peter(y)

If you mean the one going up to the restaurant, its an area on the right just before the restaurant. We are thinking of going on Saturday evening for dinner as we start on the slow way home on Sunday. Not unlike a swarm of locusts travelling through France.

We stayed a night in Trier and had two days here at Longuich, about 15km downstream of Trier. Both stellplatzs have been almost full at night but there is a change over during the day when places appear. We are on the move again tomorrow but I think this is a popular time of year for the Germans. The wine harvest is on and during the day the temperatures have been very pleasant.

Is this Wintrich? I'm losing the plot, but that's normal for me. :)

There is a very nice restaurant at Wintrich (Burger Hof) but I don’t think Dave @Snowbird is on the Mosel at the moment(y)

PS what’s Longuich like? We’re not far away from there.

Apologies for confusing folk with my posting. Dave and I are both in the Jura near Geneva, though not together. I was enquiring about the restaurant in Gex Dave reported on as I may be interested in going there this weekend.

Not much in the area but it is a very quiet vineyard with a bar and basic restaurant - which we haven't used but have done some walking up and down the river, dodging the pushbikes. :) It took me two attempts to find the place, the satnav wasn't much help but there are a couple of signs as you enter the village but one of them is easily missed. :)

I know you want to try the brochette marinated in cognac. Who wouldn't :).
The fillet stone cooked to your liking is also pretty damned good.
Get on the brochette though and the house cote de Rhone is not bad either.

We stayed at the Stellplatz at Trittenheim last night (not the campsite) nice place lots of restaurants, we had a good (expensive) meal at the Italian and there is a Michelin Starred Restaurant in the town, Wein-und Tafelhaus!

We are there now. Just had lunch in the Italian place. :) Nice in the sun but a slightly chilly wind.

Drove up on the Luxembourg side of the river this morning. Very nice scenic drive We stopped at the Aire at Trier and spent the afternoon wandering around the town Had a very nice lunch washed down with some local wine.

Aire is busy and not very special so we will probaby move on tomorrow. Not sure whether to double back a bit and visit Saarburg, which looks a nice old town, or carry on heading North and maybe stop at Trittenheim. Decisions decisions.. ............. ..

Not sure how long you've got Peter, but you could do it the way suggested, as Saarburg is lovely. The weather will be a deciding factor for you too no doubt. The Stellplatz at Saarburg is a good 20-30 mins walk (nice cycle ride) away from the town. The centre where the water falls are, is very scenic and pretty. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

P.S. We are at Durrwang's at Dortmund. Train into the city tomorrow morning. ;)

Thanks Jock. We have no definitive timescale, just want to visit everything that is interesting. Couple of villages near to Saarburg have their wine festivals this weekend so may pay them a visit. But I have just realised we could do that by train from here in Trier or Saarburg.

Edit, which of the 2 aires were you referring to? The large one or the smaller one by the campsite?

We are at the one Jock posted Peter, and staying another night as Saarburg is a lovely place, just had a nice meal at the Italian Restaurant Meridiana at the Hotel am Markt, and that walk is a welcome relief after feeding your face:)

Another sunny day on the Mosel
