Morocco 23

I spoke with Saga about obtaining a Green Card for our planned Morocco trip in January and although they could not finalise the Card for us yet - too early -, they did not say that they no longer provide one.

Obviously until I receive one and whilst I won’t know with absolute certainty, I am hopeful that all will be in order.

New member, we are planning a trip to Morocco, probably in January. Taking two dogs, a Spinone and a Border terrier, aiming to go for about 4 or 5 weeks.
We have travelled in a VW California for the past 7 years but have upgraded to a Westfalia Amundsen 600. Will follow on here.
Welcome to the Forum,a good number are interested in grouping for mid January.

I'm going to check out buying online with Frs this time, our experience on the Tarifa ,Tanger Ville route was much better than Acciona.

edit to say, Frs also do Algeciras to Tanger med which would be an easier option for a newcomer.

Have been following this thread with interest and would like to go to Morocco next winter but the Caravan Club insurance does not provide a green card. I see you can buy 3rd party insurance at the port but does anyone know how much this will cost?

If its important to you I would suggest changing insurance companies.

So, we missed this in 2022 - wife broke her leg on December 23rd - pandemic - you name it. So, we will be going January 2023 - let us know if you are going - helps to cross together.
Any info on insurance? I’m aware u can get it on the border however I’m not sure how good it would be in the event of a problem ?
Been twice in a 4x4 never in the motorhome. What an amazing place

Saga will provide a green card for Morocco. Insurance at the border is expensive and generally acknowledged as being absolutely useless.

John, let me know what you find, Algeciras/ Ceuta price is lower than Tanger Med but I don't think the port is to easy to clear customs. Incidentally the January prices weren't available when I checked about a week back.

I'm also considering Morocco mid January if I can get my dogs titre tests done in Spain early December. I wouldn't like to risk going over without them as I've heard getting back in to Spain can be difficult. My insurance is with safeguard who also don't do greencard fir Morocco these days so I'd just buy at the border.

One year I forgot to get a green card for the scooter so ended up buying it in Morocco. It was a real faff and cost €100/month but tbf it was an Allianz office in Marrakech.

Lv or Saga will cover Morocco

No probs Derek will post up anything I find but expecting a substantial increase.

Has anyone taken a trailer over? Just toying with taking a quad. I know some brits have done it but wondering how the Moroccans deal with our trailers not being registered?

Lpg availability.
Whilst I appreciate that gas bottles can be refiiled by willing locals how do you go on with refillable gaslow bottles as an example. Is lpg available at petrol stations or just the odd ones.
Would it be better to take a Spanish repsol bottle and get that refilled?

I have never been but have researched this quite extensively for a planned trip. LPG is not available at petrol stations in Morocco but local bottled gas is easy to obtain, most people seem to recommend using a filter if using the local gas

That is correct! LPG in bottles are easy to obtain and this can be connected to the Gaslow filler point with a suitable connector. Fitting a filter to the bottle is a good idea as many believe the gas can be dirty. The filter and connection hose are easy to obtain.
Propane is obtainable but sparse and more expensive. On my last visit to Morocco I used Butane all through the winter and without any issues what-so-ever. This is what the locals use everywhere and I would not be too concerned about seeking out propane.

Thanks, PhilandMena I have the gaslow local cylinder connector which I used with a jumbo adaptor in Spain to my gaslow fill point with no issues. Would it be easier to take a Spanish bottle to Morocco or use local bottles?

Local bottle. You buy outright then just pay for gas and swap empty for full. Cheap too.

It's not for everyone for sure but there can be no doubt that in the last 10 years or so the vast majority of motorhome visitors to Morocco can't wait to return and in fact do so, after their first visit. A truly magical country.
