Morocco 23

After trying 74,822,102,308 insurance companies re green card for Morocco !!
I finally took the tip from a “wise Owl” on here and contacted NFU who will give me a Green Card 3rd Party for Morocco 👍
I just need to give them the dates nearer the time and Bingo !! The insurance cost £387 which is ok, so good result all round and no need to buy a e 200€ Mickey Mouse one at the border.
😜
Mitch.

Three hundred and eighty seven pounds is a lot of money for a document that provides you with the minimum compulsory insurance cover required by the law of the country visited. I do not know for certain but I think a green card may be 3rd party cover only ?
Anyway, I paid less than this for my annual motorhome insurance with SAGA which includes a free Green card.

Edit: I misread the above post as being £387.0 for the Green Card. Anouther senior moment.

Hi Terry.

My wife, a retired magistrate, would have kittens if I didn't have all the correct paperwork so I will be looking into the Titre Test. Is that something I should get done here in the UK or is it something for Spain? Very much appreciate your assistance.
We took our dog to Morocco Jan 2020. We got the titre test done in the Uk several months prior as if the test shows the vaccine hasn’t been effective then you have to have another vaccine with the time delay before travel.

My vet recommended giving the vaccine again first then having the titre test but I can’t remember if there was a small time gap between them. Our dogs test came back as passed.

Best ask your vet to be sure. I know you can’t over vaccinate rabies as our dog had to have another one this year for her new European pet passport.

I’d also say Muslims consider dogs very unclean and avoid them. They really don’t understand why we let ourselves be pulled along by one on a lead and would often look horrified when I picked her up. Absolutely not welcomed in shops etc.

Think that the titre test is mandatory, if you visit Morocco.
We have a new pup, who last week got his rabies jab.
Hope to travel to Germany in September. We will get a EU passport, which will cost around €45.
To Travel out I expect to pay £120 for the AHC.
Where will you be getting the Titre Test? We did the same with our dog by visiting Southern Ireland to get a EU Pet Passport.

My vet recommended new rabies jab, then wait 1 month before titre test. It cost me £164 for the titre test.

Hopefully we are getting ours titre tested in Belgium on Monday , will confirm after the event.
However did get a quote in Scotland for £170 per dog.

3rd party only in Morocco.
Mitch
OK, .
just to be clear, I have checked with Saga and found a really helpful chap who pulled up the terms and conditions of the underwriters and they clearly state as of your Saga plus policy. IE, fully Comprehensive.
I hope this clears things for other Funsters who are thinking of going.

we always had comp with Saga but they don't insure the engine size of what we have these days  Lv are another who will insure Morocco and I'm reasonably sure they are comp too but they insure on the chassis  and ours isnt on their list so we're stuck with NFU who are very reasonable but only offer minimum cover, still better than the cover I reckon you would get at the border.

Hello again everyone! Back on here thinking about christmas or january crossing. Any changes post covid? Is carlos still doing tickets ? Has the pice gone up? Have the fuel costs in moroc gone up alot? Many many questions. Did anyone get stuck there over covid?
Hope to see some old and new faces soon.

Hello all,

Following this thread with interest as I'm very keen on going out in January. Doobray is however a bit more cautious and thinks it's 'too much hassle'. Please help me to convince him otherwise!

Just out of curiosity, how many of you who have travelled to Maroc before have bothered with rabies vaccinations for themselves? Our dogs have theirs but what about us humans?

Looking forward to more chat and information!

Cheers,

Shirley.

We have been 3 times now and like most a little apprehensive on first crossing, only to be dispelled in the first week and we have been in love with Maroc ever since. No need for rabbits jabs, just make sure those wild dogs are well cooked before you eat them. A lot of spices help too.

Rabies vaccine for humans to an extent depends on personal choice and how remote an area you are going to. The advantage of pre expoure vaccination in that you wont ever need rabies immunoglobulins (which can be difficult to get hold of) you wont need any treatment for a low risk exposure and you only need 2 "booster" vaccinations for medium or high risk, If you are not vaccinated you need 4 vaccines and possibly immunoglobulins after any exposure, That said dealing with rabies is bread and butter work for healthcare in at risk countries compared to the UK.... my last rabies exposure patient toolkme 3 hours of work trying to get hold of the right people!

I don't expect we'd go too far off the beaten track but you never know! To my mind, I'd rather be vaccinated than not as the temptation for me to fuss over any cute waifs and strays is strong! Obviously, it's down to individual choice though.

We have a Green Card currently which we've just found doesn't cover Maroc :rolleyes:however mh insurance is due for renewal in November so might be the ideal opportunity to look for an alternative option. Any suggestions?

Saga seems the choice to make, they did also guarantee the same renewal price for three years.
There are others mentioned just go back through the thread.
Also the dogs need a Titre test, this lasts for life if the rabies jabs are concurrent .

Over the last few years there seems to have been a programme of innoculating stray dogs in Morocco rather than just putting them down. Those who have been treated can be identified by a tag in an ear, however I would normally stay clear of "unknown" dogs, especially if you have one (or three!) of your own.

We hopefully have completed the titre test in Belgium.
The results should be with us in 2 weeks.
As for cost 325 euros for:-
2 dogs fit to travel checks
1 dog EU pet passport
2 dogs Titre test

We've started looking at plans for January and found out that the lovely campsite at Moulay Bousellham ( Atlantis Gate) is permanently closed.
That's a bad start.

Planning to take our pet mini schnauzer with us on our first Moho trip to Morocco in January 2023. We have got a new EU Pet Passport and can prove that she is up to date with her rabies injections. What else will I need to ensure a safe return trip?

Titre Blood test for Rabies, can take a month to get certification after the Vet has done the test.

tbf even by Moroccan standards its looked very run down for years. I saw the comments that looking for a new manager isnt going well and 3 years with no income can't have been easy but hope they do manage to find someone as it is a wonderful location.

Hoping to also be going early January 2023 🙂
Currently halfway down the Adriatic side of Italy getting this weekend ferry to Greece from Brindisi then touring around Greece and Turkey until early June then heading back home, then off again July until early September so by the time we've all that done we'll need a holiday in Maroc 🙂
How to you get round the 90day rule ?

So, we missed this in 2022 - wife broke her leg on December 23rd - pandemic - you name it. So, we will be going January 2023 - let us know if you are going - helps to cross together.
We would be interested in doing it with other people as not confident enough to go it alone! Where in the UK will you be leaving from? Happy to swap personal details so we can make plans 🙂
