Morocco 2020

Motorhome John, perhaps I should have read all the posts :xsurprised:

For those of you in Spain or France at the moment and have been using sites:-

Do you have ACSI

If yes, did you get a discount, or have you been asked for it to get a discount?
Did you get the discount anyway without showing it?
If you got a discount was it much?

I’ve had it many times in the past but have rarely been asked for it or have got a cheap rate anyway.

Thanks in advance

Despite telling me it would be free Saga have charged me £25 for a green card for Morocco, and we’re very pernickety about dates, they would not issue it for more than 90 days to allow for eventualities. I have lodged a complaint!

Update - £25 refunded plus £10 for my trouble + a referral to underwriting to give a weeks grace either side of dates,

however

does anybody actually know if the Moroccan authorities will accept a Green card written for more than 90 days??

The Moroccan Visa is normally for 90 days, and as I understand, can be extended by staying on a campsite, usually for a couple of weeks, to enable you to have an address in Morocco until your extended visa has been processed.

Don't really see why not Simon - provided the "connected driver" has a valid visa. We've never been asked to provide evidence of insurance mind.

Yes Ken thanks, I understand that, Saga said they didn‘t know if writing a Green Card for more than 90 days would cause a problem with the Moroccan authorities, I don’t want to stay longer, I just want a bit of flexibility on ferry dates. Last time I went the Green Card was for a year, Saga said their concern is wether the Moroccan Authorities accept a green card written for longer than the Import Visa. What do you reckon!

all the green cards i have had for morocco have been for the full term of the insurance each year.
mind havnt been with sago since 2008 but other companies just give the green card as i renew my insurance. if i ask for one. same with m,bike insurance.
just shop around .

I had this discussion with 'Jason' at Saga. I told him I couldn't be certain exactly when we would cross there and back and like you asked for a weeks grace either side of the 3 months window, to cover unknown enventualities like breakdown, bad weather etc etc. He agreed with me and he requested 24 January to 7 May. That was on 16 December, not heard anything back yet.

You might need to ensure they have sent it Ken, that was exactly the reason I rang today as I was told last Friday it was in the post!

They checked all my phone calls (Over an hours worth) and emails etc as I was very specific with what I asked because of the problems encountered on here, and made notes re what they replied, hence the refund of the £25 + a tenner, and a weeks grace either side. Spoke to Alice who seemed very efficient and then underwriting who have listed it as an urgent case, they are going to ring me when the Green Card has left the building (underwriters not Elvis:giggle:) here’s hoping. Just ring and double check Ken and ask if the underwriters have issued yours!(y)

Re the other just done a bit of Googling for the benefit of first timers:-

Entry to Morocco
If you hold a British Passport you do not require a visa to enter Morocco. A valid British passport must be held for entry to and exit from Morocco. Passports should be valid for the duration of your stay in Morocco. Entry is permitted for 90 days. If you overstay, you are liable to a fine or imprisonment. If you wish to remain for a longer period, you should contact the Moroccan Immigration authorities in the city where you are to obtain a Residence Card.

Driving in Morocco
If you bring your own car into Morocco, on arrival you need to present the original vehicle registration documents, insurance certificate and your passport to the customs officer, and complete the vehicle admission form. Photocopies and faxes are not acceptable. Each vehicle owner is then given a temporary admission vignette to put on the car windscreen, and a green and a white document with the vehicle details, entry date, and length of stay permitted (“admission temporaire”). If your vehicle is normally registered outside Morocco, you are allowed to keep a vehicle in Morocco for a maximum period of 6 months in any one year.

It is important that you keep the entry documents safely. If you have lost them, you may encounter problems when you try to leave. Each imported vehicle is entered in the immigration computer records, and the Moroccan authorities should be able to check your details in that way. You must have entry documents for all vehicles, whether being driven or not, so motor bikes in trailers/camper vans require their own entry certificates too. You may need to show these documents at any time if you are stopped by the police.

When you leave Morocco (with your car), the temporary authorisation papers (see above) must be presented to Moroccan Customs. You should retain the white copy with the exit stamp on it, should you be questioned about exportation of the vehicle on any future trip back into Morocco. Should you need to leave Morocco and cannot take the car with you, you must consult the closest Customs authorities. They may decide to impound the vehicle “hors circulation’’ until you return.

Vehicles must have at least 3rd party insurance to be driven in Morocco, and you must have proof of such insurance in the form of a green card. If you are unable to get insurance for Morocco abroad, you will need to take out temporary insurance on arrival. This can be done in Tangier port (in an office on the right of the exit from customs) or at the Ceuta/Moroccan border. If your insurance policy expires during your stay in Morocco, you can obtain temporary insurance cover from local insurance companies.

You can drive in Morocco with a valid UK driving licence for up to one year. You can also drive with a valid International Driving Permit for up to one year of your temporary stay in Morocco. From 28 March 2019, you will need to have a 1968 International Driving Permit (IDP) to drive in Morocco. [1926/1949] IDPs previously issued by the UK will no longer be valid for use in Morocco after this date. From 1 February 2019, you can only get IDPs over the counter from 2,500 UK Post Offices. You will not be able to buy an IDP outside the UK, so get one before you travel.

you will need to show Carlos as well for the form

Does anyone know why Saga are so specific with dates?

Say you leave Spain two weeks after the green card date and return to Spain within the 90 days, what is the problem?

I hate being kept to specific dates.

You are still covered for Spain so why does it matter?

Good news about the refund. I am ringing Saga soon for mine. They also assured me card was free.

No problem with this, it’s losing time if you want 90 days and get there late because of hold ups, weather etc.

I don't recall them ever checking the green card. In fact the one year I went in without one with the scooter and it wasnt a problem getting it in. major hassle getting one over there though and they never checked it anyway.

Thanks dabhand for that valuable info. Assuming it is current there have been some changes since last winter, notably the windscreen sticker. I'm not actually surprised because when we entered nobody seemed to have much idea of what was going on and our "entry certificate" was just an A4 piece of paper with a few details and the Customs officers initials.

THEREFORE EVERYBODY PLANNING TO GO TO MOROCCO PLEASE TAKE NOTE

I ordered our green card from Saga today.

I got charged £25 which I paid but told them I would complain. ( Once I've got it! )

Even with that payment it has worked out £65 cheaper altogether changing from Comfort to Saga

I just watched this on BBC 2 to get in the mood for Morocco.

An interesting , informative and entertaning watch.

At around 14.30 mins as they drive through Mhamid to the end of the road is an ariel shot of Camping La Bussole where we stayed a week and from there took the trip by 4x4 to Erg Chigaga as shown later in the programme

Hello dabhand, heading to Morocco on the 3rd Jan 2020 and suprised to see that I need a 1968 IDP from 28 March 2019?. I'm sure I have previously read it was 28 Mar 2020?? Could you confirm as setting off on Friday 27th December. Thanks Allen

HELP can anyone recommend a New Years eve location with lively celebrations/fireworks etc around Seville to Algeciras prior to entering Morocc. Preferably within walking or cycling distance many thanks Allen

I think the 29 March was the last supposed date for Brexit.

Not sure that you need one for Morocco anyway BUT if you return after 31 Jan you will almost certainly need one for France. So just buy one.....we got ours in the Post Office...................go in with a photo and get one over the counter.

We like the campsite at Puerto de Santa Maria just a ferry ride across the bay from Cadiz.
Its an ACSI site and I'm sure there will be something going on there or in Cadiz

If you are sure you’ve read that it’s the 28th March 2020 then why would you need me to confirm? Can you direct me to the link please of where you read it! And that’s the problem, you really owe it to yourself to make sure you’ve got stuff right. However, I read what I posted on a .GOV site and the same is contained in the below link, it might well be the case that we don’t need it but for the sake of £5.20 and two passport photos I got both IDP’s as mentioned elsewhere in this thread. I don’t fancy driving 1300 miles and then have entry refused due to a formality. I have never been asked for a green card either, but guess what, I’ve got one of those too! Belts and braces mate, belts and braces, you know it makes sense. ;) (y)

If you're driving through France to Spain you'll "need" a different one for each.
Bureaucracy!
