Hope by now that everyone who was "stuck" in Morocco is safely home.

Was asked today by a Funster at Stratford, who had just found out that his (new to him) insurance company wouldn't issue a Green Card for Morocco, what was the cost of the insurance bought at the border. He needs to know fairly quickly so that. if necessary he can cancel and change companies. Couldn't remember and have just searched the thread but nobody looks to have actually said.

So, if you bought insurance cover at the border for your motorhome (not motorbike etc) how much did you pay and for how long?

Insurance and the border was £190 for 3 months then paid another £90 for one month in Sidi Ifni, so cheaper at the border
This insurance is third party! It's all you can get here
And no not everybody is home
A couple of thousand vans still here we assume!

We had to change from safeguard to saga to get the green card - slightly more expensive but green card included for Europe and Morocco. Were turned down by NFU - no reason given - no points on licence, no accidents, no idea why.

I think like you TerryL we are insured with Comfort and for 90 days it cost £250 for fully comp.
Not much more and no worries about validity or searching it out at the border.

We tried Saga but the annual total even with the free card was more was still more than we paid Comfort. Also during the lockdown Comfort extended it free for another 30 days. So good service.

Comfort Green card for stays over 8 weeks is 50% of premium plus £20.00. That will probbably be cheaper than buying third party cover at the border.

Saga green card for Morocco was free for me this year and allegedly for the next two years as well. Cancelled my comfort policy and went with saga because of the increase Comfort wanted.

It was about £80 cheaper for us to sack Comfort and go with Saga.

The state of emergency has been extended to 10 August and no tourists are allowed in. They have done well to keep the virus down and I shouldn't be surprised if they hold out against tourists a good while longer.

According to my neighbour spain/Morocco crossings are still freight only which has also rendered the' Paso del Estrecho' ,when 250,000 North Africans go home for holidays & then return cancelled as well. Freight for the foreseeable future he reckons.
So could well be a problem for any still there if this situation continues for the rest of the year ?

I'm not sure exactly what that means. Can they travel home to Morocco and then return to Spain later. No idea.

Earlier in the thread I said I was going to have to look carefully when insurance renewal time came round. I contacted Comfort, whom I've been more than happy with for years, as I wanted to reduce the number of miles and also the value of the van which was still at the original purchase price of 11 years ago. I thought the guy I spoke to was quite off-hand, telling me the changes would make no difference to the somewhat increased premium and confirming the cost of a Green Card for Morocco.

So, on the recommendation of several others I went to Saga - not only was the premium less and would be kept the same for three years, there was no charge for a Green Card, although she would have needed specific information to confirm that.

We've said we would love to go back next year, subject to restrictions of course, but in our case it was a no-brainer to change insurance companies in any case. Now we just have to wait and see what happens.

possibly yes, but not a lot of use if Spain won't let them back in which I believe is the case at the moment?
& as far as I can see from reports Morocco cancelled the " Paso del Estrecho" operation for 2020 so any travel will be far more difficult & without the usual amount of boats.

We would also love to go back again next year...............as many have said and seen, the place is changing so quickly, now is the time to go.

Just can't seem to get this quote right from Saga...perhaps I'm just not old enough........sadly not true.........I'll try them again next renewal

A return to Morocco is in our plans for next year and insurance is up for renewal this month with Comfort, Saga will be getting a call

I posted before that our insurance and £250 for Green Card with Comfort was still cheaper than Saga. Also after the lockdown they did renew the Green Card for an extra month For Free.

But just thinking, if they are charging for the card then the price can rise considerably after renewal. But if Saga tell you at the start of the policy that it is free then presumably they have to stick with that

Just goes to show the inconsistency. For me Saga were less than Comfort before the cost of the Green Card! Which they told me was issued without charge.

As you know you are going back again................................. Insh'Allah, it might be worth checking at renewal that the offer of a free card lasts for the life of the policy.

I think in our Brave New World there may be an influx of those wanting to spend more than 90 days in the sun and using Morocco as a non Shengen stop
