Morocco 2019

if your in a rear wheel drive vehicle the coast road along the med to alhoceima is fantastic . hardly any tarmac just piste but great drive .
morocco is far nicer with rear wheel drive m,homes .
have fun and have an adventure .

If your referring to the N16. we drove it last year from Saidia to Tetouan all tarmac now, as is the N17 from Figuig to Ouija along the Rekkam plateau. and also the N10 from Blue Meski to Bouarfa, the only piste like surface was from the N17 to the easternmost point in Morocco Iche, even that wasn’t too bad as long as you took your time.
Agree with what you say about the coast road stunning drive

Great drive from chefchouen to tetouen, beautiful scenery, lovely food in the cafe half way between the two with a brilliant view of the reservoir ,on the last leg now, many thanks to all the funsters for their constructive advice and informative posts, special mention for @Hotelman for inspiring us to come here,
I'm not looking forward to going back into Europe, I'll miss the smiles
My absolute pleasure, next year you must travel inland and visit dades gorge and todra gorge. Park up in a campsite and then go by your scooter. 2 very different gorges, that’s all I’m going to tell you, because they are ‘fantastic ‘.

Sorry to hear about your last problems, but that could happen in torremolinos or Scarborough !’

And, staying at camping Atlas in todra, a great little site, I got my van cleaned by the grounds man, well worth a tip of 4 yes 4 cans of kronenbourg!, if I abstain for 1 more hour, those beers were part of today’s allowance, so no problem!!!(y):)::bigsmile:

Absolutely, just one of those things , well definitely be going inland next year, we have loved morocco

So , spent a fabulous day in the blue city, except for the drugs, if we were offered drugs 30 times I might be underestimating, 2 quite aggressive who were quickly told to foxtrot Oscar, and then an aggressive Begger who threw stones at us when we didn't give him any money, shame really,

What site is it that you found in Chefchouan please?

yes thats it the n16 , it used to be piste just about all the way. .
great drive though.
mind we also liked the drive from ceuta to tangiers along the coast. great views of gib etc .
there are lots of nice scenic roads in most countries that most visitors never take. have fun and have good travels.

Back in algerciras, easy thru Maroc customs etc, fun and games watching the Maroc lorry drivers back onto the ferry and a massive yank job with trailer, I'm not sure his tow bar is still attached after bottoming out 3 times on the on ramp

As always I appreciate the info from others that has helped make our first trip really enjoyable.

The final bit of the jigsaw is the approach to the campsite at Chefchaouan in a few days. I know @billym and @River gypsys have posted about their difficulties so any advice appreciated.

The attached shows the google maps route to the campsite in blue. Going a bit further North, which was suggested, brings up the grey route. I think we'll take that one, but any further advice very welcome.
I don't want to finish our trip on the "impossible street" OMG How can we avoid it ?

Definitely the grey one IMHO.

We had a nice last stop at Oued Laou (thanks @horshamjack )

https://www.campercontact.com/en/marocco/marokko/oued-laou/64535/oued-laou-guardian-parking

Its a basic tarmac carpark but its right next to the prom with a great view over the med. only downside is quite a lot of kids playing football at times.

We got to it along the white road just past Chefchaouen nicely surfaced 2 lane tarmac the whole way but very steep in places ( probably not one for @billym )

We re definitely going to do the rest of the N16 along the med coast next time, it looks stunning.

After 18 memorable days at Tafroute it's time to move on. My last visit to the Ham-mam this morning and we leave tomorrow morning for Agadir to get the motorhome serviced. We have both agreed to come back, we love it here and would happily stay longer if not for the servicing arrangement. As ever, one of the great joy's of Tafroute is being with other Funsters who also come here regularly and of course meeting new one's.
Still well over 100 motorhomes here but with plenty of spaces now.

Good drive this morning on the R105 from Tafroute to Agadir. Road had some sections where edging had gone and care required with oncoming vehicles, otherwise a great drive with very scenic views. No duel carriageway until Agadir. Now sitting outside Fiat garage with 6 other motorhomes and fortunately the service manager remembers me from my visit in January when I popped in to confirm service date. So we overnight here and first in the que tomorrow morning at 08.30. Found cheap wine but the beer is expensive ? We have enough now for the rest of our stay in Morocco.

How expensive ?do I owe you?

No, a deal is a deal. The cheapest we saw was Stork at 10.9 the Flag specials were 12.0 a can. The wine was a lot cheaper and I bought plastic 1 ltr bottles of the same stuff Sue gave me for 45 dir. Still managed to spend 700 Dirham on alcohol though but that's us now untill we leave Moroc. Now only 3 motorhomes left outside of Fiat. Watched them servicing other motorhomes and emergency repairs and they seem to know what there doing. Loads of motorhomes using this place. I'm first in the que rtomorrow morning and the other 2 are going to be here for quite a while but at least they have hook up from the servicing centre.

where did you shop?, and what size were the beer cans ?

Well that was a result at Fiat. 4 new filters, oil change and correction of a false brake wear indicator warning and a reset of the service interval, 2,060 Dirham. All Fiat genuine parts and oil, using Fiat trained technicians. So glad I booked in advance, motorhomes were turnong up all the time looking to get jobs done. Now at Camping Takat and it's getting hot, will chill here for a few days before pushing on.

I'm gutted if merzouga, has closed we couldn't get there this year, keep us posted

If I were to hazard a guess it would be that there is a deal of concern about the environmental issues, by that I mean waste disposal. The development of these "camps" must obviously put a strain on existing facilities, which are probably already inadequate anyway and would require considerable investment to improve, which won't be forthcoming. As for deprivation of livelihood, is the influx of a few hundred people over a relatively short period going to make that much difference?

We've noticed that Morocco is undergoing a massive Europeanisation and this to me is another sign that the country we knew of old is fast disappearing.
