Morocco 2019

I'm gutted if merzouga, has closed we couldn't get there this year, keep us posted
AFAIK they are not talking about campsites, They are closing down the 'desert camps'.

They sell overnight camel/quad trips where you go into the desert and stay overnight at a tented camp, the poor old punters don't realise that they are only a short car ride from where they started because they ve been driven round in circles, have a night under the stars and then next morning they are promptly returned to their hotels and they are so relieved that it was all right that nobody complains, and the next lot get on the camel/quad for their '2 day trip'.

I don't think you will have any problem finding a campsite in Merzouga, in fact you will be beating off the touts as you roll into town.

Now at Erg Chebbi, on camping pyramid, wow wow what a great setting. We stayed last night in the town of erfoud, we went into town on the scooter, pestered everywhere for trips into the desert or visit my shop etc etc and this was at the traffic lights !!!, the first ones since Marrakesh!!!!, . We were slightly apprehensive about how touristy it would be here, but so far so good.
SWMBO flies home on the 29th from Marrakesh, I guess I’ll be sailing from tangier med 2 weeks today.

Not sure about the changes to the ‘tent villages’ which have been removed, if I find out I will report in.

But rest assured, camping pyramid is open and I need to keep pinching myself that we are experiencing it.

I need to do a little research to see if we can get a photo of the Algerian border, to go with our many others

I’ve been informed that only the unregistered/unlicensed camps are being pulled down and closed which makes sense

Heads up for those going to Chefchaouan.
After suggestions from others, we drove further along the N13 and cut back to Chefchaouan on the R412 and followed the red route to the campsite which was easy enough.

However it is a long slow slog up from the N13 and we saw two yoots had put a barrier in the road to slow down the traffic and then climbed onto the towbar of a giant MAN truck, that luckily seemed able to take the weight. I dread to think of the possible damage if they had hung on to a Fiamma bike rack.

Oh....pleeese ask me what's a yoot......................Cousin Vinny one of our favourite films

A little misty first thong on the morning and then the day heats up very quickly, night 20"s low 30's. Will move onto next campsite in a couple of days, Paradie Normade anyone accessed this from the Matakesh Toll road direction? Sent an email to the campsite asking if road was ok got an automatic reply that their email system was faulty due to iffy WiFi ???

Trying to picture you in a 'misty thong' Phil . Is it one you've borrowed from Mena?

Just about to board the car ferry back to Spain. Had a fabulous 4 weeks in Maroc and exceeded all of my expectations and drowned by fears built on ignorance. Best bits.. the Moroccan people, the ever changing landscapes, the flat bread, mint tea, towns and villages that we travelled through, the hundreds of pallid swifts we saw, the history.. I could go on and on... I'm not going to offer any contrary observations because the pluses outweigh the negatives. Thanks to the many on this thread who offered their thoughts and knowhow when we sought all kinds of advice.
In the words of General McCarther, "l came through and I will return":D

We stayed for a couple of nights at the beginning of our trip and drove from the motorway, it was fine. 2 weeks later we drove the back way from Agadir, that was fine but the site was full, it was hosting a motorbike team, so check,

The, that is helpful, as per my post, I did send them an email and got a reply to the effect their WiFi system was broken ?????

Enjoyed the last few days in Chefchaouan and it's been one of the highlights of the trip. But unlike others on here we have not been offered any illegal substances.

Now either we are just too old for them to even consider or we are wondering about the streets with such a glazed look in our eyes that they don't think we need anything else.

A night in Martil tomorrow and then the ferry back. Again, thanks to all those regulars whose posts made us think "we could do that" and a big hallo to all the friends we made on the way.

Whilst down in erb chebbi this morning we got a call to say our daughters father in law had died, not a suprise, so as we were at the end of our trip we decided to travel home. Now in Meknès, a long drive but just like all Morocco a fantastic one. Onto tangier med tomorrow for the afternoon sailing. SWMBO is flying home from Malaga on Wednesday morning. I tried to amend my Brittany ferry booking, from Spain but all full for 10 days ...due to earlier weather cancellations and bloody b****t !!, so I guess a long drive through France. But how great to explore the inland of Morocco and great to have plans for next year ....inshallah

Sorry to hear you're having to cut short your trip, unfortunately at our time of life these things seem to happen more frequently - our condolences.

But of course it would happen when you probably were about as far from Tangier as you could get - that's one hell of a drive so well done for doing it so quickly. Take care too on the rest of your return.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves and keep those plans going - you're the "Morocco 2020" expert now!

We loved Ait Mansour. Parked in the Palmerie..... Guardian told us to move 6 feet over to the left, I said "yeah sure, why?"
"because that 40 foot tall palm might fall in these winds"
There's me thinking, moving 6 feet will help?

I'm sure other "old hands" will have noticed too but there does seem to be an increase of very acceptable new campsites springing up in Morocco, no doubt due to the King's initiative a couple of years ago to allocate funds to individual regions for developing tourism.

We're currently at L'Oceane Bleu at Mohammedia, an old favourite, and having been out for a short walk earlier the amount of development, mainly holiday apartments, is astonishing. On the next beach north they've even built a small breakwater to form a lagoon next to a beautiful beach, right in front of a whole raft of the apartment blocks.

Sadly L'Oceane Bleu doesn't seem to be keeping up - whilst the site itself is excellent and the welcome couldn't be better, the facilities haven't been upgraded for a while, are totally inadequate and are letting the place down.

Planning on crossing back to Algeciras on Friday, probably overnight Thursday at Asilah (campsite for the facils) to be in a good position for a reasonable ferry.

Like many other, we too are edging up towards Tangier and over to Spain. It's been a fantastic trip and we have found another delightful campsite with a mind blowing restaurant and some wonderful places to relax in their gardens. close to Marrakesh too.

Four days was enough for us Martin. They have put another 5 dirham on the price so now 85 dirham without lecce and 105 with. It's fine for a few days but very little to do other than lounge by the pool or inside the big lounge/restaurant. On the whole I would say it's good for a short stop and handy if your heading north and need somewhere to stop near Agadir.

Our 2pm sail never happened and having spoken to others they have said the same

OH..............................we're going for the 2pm sailing tomorrow ?????

But given the ferocious winds in Martil today and predictions to get worse at the weekend,we'll be happy to sail sometime tomorrow....................shhh don't tell them.

Our 2pm sailing was also non existant.
Can recommend the chicken sandwich from cafe at the booking in area!
