Morocco 2019

We turned up at Tanger Med yesterday hoping to get a ferrry either that afternoon or this morning. All ferries were cancelled due to the high winds :crying:There must have been at least 100 MHs and the same number of cars and vans all waiting:Eeek: The forecast is for high winds for at least 3 days so we decided to move to the site at Camping Achakar (not great but ok for a couple of days) the other side of Tangier. What worried us was how the barely adequate toilet facilities would cope with several hundred people using it, not to mention the emptying of cassettes:Eeek::Eeek:

Still very windy but looking better Sunday/Monday.

Just wondered if anyone is waiting at the port and how things are going? I’ve been checking the website for departures but it’s not clear whether any ferries are actually sailing.

@Ali n Tim so sorry you're still stuck there, it looks like we were very lucky and got the last ferry out although I have difficulty believing there's been nothing since - it's been a week.

That said we're on the Algarve and it's been very windy everywhere since we crossed over last Thursday.

Hope the wind clears up soon @Ali n Tim and others we know are "stranded in Morocco"

You are right Terry we were lucky to get probably the last boat.

Worth remembering in future to always have a bit extra on your green card and visa....just in case

it happened once while i was over there but luckily we sailed to ceuta return.
i know some actually ended up a week detained in morocco for over staying .
it sounds daft but for a couple of days they got imprisoned for a week.
decided always use ceuta .dont use any other port .
there was a time you drove back to ceuta spent a week in ceuta then went back in to morocco for another 90 days . think they have stopped that these days but it worked years ago. mind they had computer control even back then on the entry posts .
ceuta is good as you can get very cheap drink there . and fuel.

Just checking in as not posted for a while, since Ait Mansour we headed down to a new camp site at Tarsouate “camping le vallee” then onto Tighmert then Assa, Icht, Tata, Taliouine and now at Ouarrzazate, been here 3 days as waiting to see a notary tomorrow, what a waffle !!
Weather has been hot down south but yesterday we had thunder lightening and hailstones and also this morning for a few hours sun is out now and fc to get warmer, attached a pic of today’s hail. will post another update in a week or so
Marc & Sam

P.s we were told at Assa that Zag was out of bounds and we would not be allowed in ? apparently this is in a military zone, when entering Assa we had to fill in fiche and asked our route

We are now in Spain :clap2:Arrived at Tanger- Med yesterday (Saturday) morning at about 11am and checked in for 1pm ferry. Down on the quay, following the ‘live departures’ on the website everything seemed to be cancelled although the wind had dropped considerably. The only crossing still on the list was at 3am!! To our relief a ferry turned up at about 5pm and we were loaded onto it :) It left at 6pm and after a fairly smooth crossing landed at Algeciras at 7.30. Some friends we had met in Tafroute, got the 9am crossing which was rough and they were ok but most other passengers were seasick :sicker: Glad we missed that one:)
We stopped overnight at Les Palmones having stocked up with wine and gin:whistle: and are now on Camping Los Gazules,in the Los Alcornacales nature park. Got some washing done and lazed about in the sun and best of all no wind:D
Will stay here another night and then head towards Portugal.

Hi all,
Just got back from 4 month in Portugal the other week.We thought about going to Morocco on the trip, but Club Care insurance do not issue Green cards on the ERS policy i have so abandoned the idea.
However my insurance is up this week and i have a good quote from Adrian Flux and they will issue a Green card for our next trip end of this year.
The problem is they cannot give a price for the it until you actually request with travel dates. In the last 6 months i have heard the Green cards costing from nil to £35 per week depending on the insurance company , expensive at the higher rate for a 3 month trip .
Anybody used Adrian Flux or can give me an idea of the present cost of a card with them.
If they charge at the top rate it may be better going with another Insurance company even if the policy is a bit dearer.

Cheers Cris.

You're going to have difficulty getting anyone to quote, I don't think even the underwriters (for it is they that set the price) know what is going to happen next week, never mind in 9 months time.

And with B...t still up in the air who knows?

I don't know anyone who is issuing free green cards on new policies@Pugsy................we found that the cost with Comfort plus £250 for Morocco 90 day green card was still cheaper than other companies who issued a "free green card"

I think the key word is "free" which I don't think exists in the world of insurance.

We're with saga, they charged us £25 for two months, they wouldn't give us a price until 30 days before departure, the cost for one years insurance for the MH was £336, we're a 5 ton 8metre MH , hope this helps, and morocco was Fantastic so worth thinking about

Glad you made it back, we didn't catch up with you whilst in Maroc but have been watching your posts, we've just come out of Portugal after 3 weeks of lovely weather, it did get a bit windy over the weekend tho

After a bad day of all rain yesterday we are now at Los Banks near Murcia. A Funster advised us to go het e as there is free parking and access to the hot spings. However, we could find neither and paid 8 euros each to access the swimming pools and enjoy the hot springs. A neat set up with all facilities including camping for motorhomes. I was informed there was no free parking and no free access to the hot springs. Never mind, we have both enjoyed our visit and will push on to our next stop. Weather much better today too.

Yes it cost us about the same with Saga.

My advice to anyone finding one insurer is being difficult about something then consider terminating the policy early and re-insuring with someone else, we ve always been OK with Saga for the motorhome but ended up changing insurers for the scooter - got the Morocco cover and actually saved money in the process.

Hi Ali

For future reference I'm wondering if all the ferry companies stopped running totally? Or did some try a bit harder than others?

We have just spent an enjoyable few days in the company of Martin & Sue @MrEd at Ouarzazate municipal camp site, done quite a bit of work since our last visit with a new shower and toilet block and then at the nearby barragem,
We said our goodbyes this morning as we were going different ways, we are now at Camping L’escale in Tabouraht near Ait Benhadou, recently taken over by young french couple, good facilities and nice menu,
We were told the N9 Tizi n Tichka was not passable in places due to snow, hopefully we will get up to Kesh tomorrow.

P.s don’t know what happened to the photos all mixed up ?

That last post of mine was a nightmare.
 first attempt, kept getting error messages, rewrote and posted only to see my original post, which i inadvertently posted which resulted in two posts with similar construction and pics,.
People might have thought i’d gone doo-lally

P.s I was unable to delete it so hence had to post 4? if that makes sense. :)

Our first visit here tbh, It has a new reception building new washroom building with fantastic large shower rooms with the big square shower heads, they are they are currently building a swimming pool and snack bar area with new showers and toilets, they have a good restaurant/snack bar good wifi we like it, plenty of room for 200+ vans large spaces, and 60dh per night without ehu..
They have possibly upped their game to compete with La Relais.
Def recommend
P.s they have about 8 peacocks here
Pps although it’s on the N9 and much traffic noise in the day it is quiet at night
