Morocco 2019

best get a proper map , either a michelin or a moroccan map.
but great places along the way skirat plage or bouznika plage great and the locals are friendly.
the smaller the village the nicer the people.
dont race around just travel slowly and enjoy the drive.
dont use campsites , smaller the village the nicer to just stop and be friendly.

Are you allowed to just stop and wild camp , we're debating which way to go at the moment we have a Michelin map which is great , but finding campsites has been impossible , it's probably me,

Yes @horshamjack ..................thanks for your support and you are right ......in Morocco divide it all by 10.

I'm not sure @River gypsys what the problem is as we use Osmand maps ....if you let us know which campsites you are looking for we can upload a map of the area..............or use campercontact which shows a map of the particular caomsite.................we always prefer campsites for security and for facilities (other motorhome methods are available)

Which campsites do you have in mind................how can we help

Hi webby, we're looking at driving to safi tomorrow, it must be me, I have every website known to man but we've still ended up in a car park near carrefour in sale

Hope your crossing goes well @billym ....................you can change money with Carlos at a good rate and it saves messing about on the other side after what will be a long wait at customs.........TIP don't be behind 20 Russian motorcycles who each have to have the vehicles checked and registered.

At Asilah we got a Maroc sim and 100 gb data for 100dm(bit less than €10) and it's worked really well so far............also got a 200gb top up card (200dhm) which should last the trip.

From Kenitra we decided to take a city break by train to Rabat 30 mins by train..............it had more to offer than I had realised and I recommend it ( PM if you want anymore detail). Overnight in a hotel close to the Medina and as people have said the shopping was very relaxed with no hassle ............yes really(PM if you want anymore details)

So far we have found the Attijariwaffa bank to be the only one not to charge extra at the ATM................that's if your own bank doesn't charge.

Now at L'Ocean Bleu in Mohammedia and after only 10 days really loving the Moroccan experience (so far ??????) I remember how nervous we felt that first night parked outside Carlos when everyone was speaking French and seemed to know exactly what was happening.

So come on in.......................... the water is warm.

Brilliant thanks so much.
Currently at Carlos'. Cost 180 euros.

I can speak French but I have rarely met a French motorhomer who wants to speak to me!

We are surprised how many are here maybe 40

The train sounds our kind of thing. Expect a PM ( thanks again)but we are incapable of planning more than one day in advance so who knows!

We are heading for Asilah as it seems the place of choice for newbies.

hardly use campsites . have used one in el jadida and one in oulidia. but not for many years .
used to use one behind a restaurant just a little bit past aglou plage . mind i have known the family there for about 25 years .
there is loads of free parking .
even at taghazout we never paid just parked on the beaches etc .
got one of the mayors sacked several years ago fot allowing guardian parking and making folk pay. there are guardian parkings in loads of places or ask at a police station they will usually let you park for free . or the military.

So @River gypsys the campsite at Safi is listed on campercontacts

There is a google map link and GPS co ordinates......................what navigation system are you using to find actual campsites...............wild camping is just out of my league. map 1.JPG map 2.JPG

Thanks vwalan that's good to know

Ok webby, thanks for all your help, I've worked out how to put GPS in Google maps, but now it is just shows a preview of the route, the bloody thing won't talk to me, I think we can find our way it's just been a stressful couple of days

I've sorted camper contact now as well so hopefully we'll find tafroute in a couple of days , thanks everyone for all your advice, your all stars

Glad you were able to sort it, you are a bit early to be heading to Tafroute if you intend taking in the festival ? also can be quite cool there due to the altitude.
Good luck on the rest of your tour

we will be at carlos around 5th 6th feb if anyone crossing around that time we've done it before let us know if we can help!!

Hi Dave & Caroline, nice to see you back in Morocco, hope to catch up along the way, prob Tafroute
Marc & Sam

Care if just using the name Tafraoute - there's more than one...............

The one we all talk about is directly east of Tiznit. It's on the Michelin map but it's not a campsite! There is a campsite or two in and around the town, the closest being Three Pines (?) which is right next to the guardian parking area but is always chokka.

Well its been quite a long day to day. Left Sidi Kaouki this morning and drove down to Agardir. We decided not to use the bypass around anew Tagazoute but call in and revive some old memories, big mistake. The roads have more or less disintegrated and the whole area is under heavy development. Hardly recognisable now compared to our last visit in 2016. So, Into Agadir to get alcohol, the Marjane does not sell any and I was redirected to Carrefour which turned out to be a small one that did not sell alcohol but the owner said go across the road into that shop and it was like going into an off Licence, the guy had everything. So Lager and wine replenished, off to Fiat to arrange service for Motorhome on way out. Ended up sitting down with a Mechanic and between the two of us, we eventualy got well and truly sorted and booked in for my way out. He then took me round the back and showed me two motorhomes on hook up waiting for a service the following day. Although a bit late in the day we have now arrived at an amazing campsite just south of Agadir, well up to European standard and with a fantastic swimming pool and loungers, 10 Amp lecee fantastic showers and it looks like some long term French too. I will take pictures and post later if I get the chance. The name of the camp site is Camping Takat. They also have a bar and a restaurant. It's in Camper Contact. 8 euros without lecce , 10 euros with.

Marjane has not sold alcohol in years Phil? you have to go downstairs at Carefour to the alcohol section, take the lift back up when laden:D.
Camping Takat is a nice place if you follow the road down a few km to the fishing village where you can wildcamp (y)

Aourir camping, just north of agadir, again very clean and pleasant, unlike the camping in the middle of agadir....for those who have stayed there, they know what I mean :D

If you need alcohol in agadir, just ask any taxi driver for the Monoprix, only a short walk from the Big wheel.

You drunk that lot you brought in with you quick Phil ? you not been there two weeks, thought you loaded up ?

I think getting alcohol in Agadir is easy now, plenty of Moroccans coming into shop and leaving with wine wrapped in newspapers. A picture of the restaurant and poolside. Quite a lot of motorhomes here too. I asked about propane and was told 18 DH a litre. You can imagine what my response was, lol. Shed load of books here too by the way.

I was concerned about weight Marc, Fully loaded before we bought our drink and well down on springs. We have lightened our load somewhat since buying all the drink in Spain and have been on drink rations since. We're in a better position now and hopefully will have enough to keep us going untill we depart. As you know, Mena likes her wine......nd now my lager.

They never check on the way in,
Get rear airbags fitted (y)

4 degrees first thing this morning but felling a little warmer when stepping outside the motorhome. Will push on to Tifnit today for propane and Marco telecom data card. Glad to see our P.M. survived the no confidence vote. We would be well and truly sunk with Cornyn at the helm imo.

@PhilandMena when you say propane are you buying a Moroccan bottle or (gasp) getting your system refilled? Has Morocco finally introduced refillable?
I'm looking to get a bottle when we arrive but if I can get a refill..........................

@PhilandMena Would also be interested in where/how you are getting the gas in Tiznit............we have the gaslow adaptor hose so can connect a local bottle to the refill point but a full refill would be even better(am I right @TerryL that you connected up the local bottle before the refillable was actually empty)

And talking about refills I see you stocked up at a bottle shop opposite the Carrefour..........was it easy enough to just drive into Agadir and park up at the Carrefour......................or is the Uniprix easier access (which I believe also sells "refills"

Thanks for all the posts that have encouraged us (and many others) to visit Morocco................hopefully there is enough space for all of us

Hi again.
We got our Maroc Telecom in Asilah today. 10 gig for 100 dhm. As Horshamjack suggests we think you maybe got your numbers confused.( sorry!)

Hiya @Kamelia III
It would really only be polite to join the forum as full members if you wish to take advantage of it's benefits. As said you'll then get unlimited posts and access to lots of information and support from other members. Well worth £15

You've had a number of responses from people travelling at your intended time. However if you want to go later we're intending to cross to Morocco 29th January and you'd be welcome to join us too.

See you in Maroc!

Done!

I will try and reply to all from here. What a day it's been but more on that a little later. As for alcohol in Agadir, I didn't get to the main Carrefour but one of the little ones as that is what came up on Maps.me when I done a search. I have no idea where the main one is but the one I went to was about 3 mins drive the Marjane. When I got there I was lucky enought to illegally park nearby and went in knowing i was wasting my time but the guy directed me across the road and it was like walking into a liqior store. Propane Gas!!!! Been driving me nuts all day. Whem we were here (Tiznet), in 2016 we got Propane 12 kg bottle from Camping Riad and it was dirt cheap too. This time around I have spent most of the afternoon being directed by Tiznit nutters telling me where to get Propane, only to find it is no longer available here, even from the campsite
What I have done is purchased a 12 Kg of camping gaz for 44 DH which is going to be recanted into my empty 12 KG marroc bottle in the morning, free of charge. Why they will not just swop the bottles as I have requested is beyond me. Anyway, I am being told all the French motorhomes here are using Butane without any problems as the temperature here is not an issue, so I'm going to give it a try too, Nothing to loose. It will either work or it wont. I suspect it will. Also, went to Maroc Telecom in Tiznit today along with every French Motorhome in Marocco. I didn't even bother wating for it to open knowing there would be the Moroccans and the motorhomers in the queue and if I was there I would have a que stroke or something similar. So it's free WiFi for me and Moroc Telecom can go bust for all I care.

Hi all, we have arrived in tafraoute , hallelujah, what a beautiful place, thank you all for all your help with our GPS issues, it's still not working properly but we managed,
Its been an interesting journey, in total it has taken 18 hours to drive from the port including food breaks, and ending up in the center of Rabat, not a good idea,
Anyway we're here now , not another English in sight, fabulous weather gin and tonic in hand and a tagine ordered for tomorrow's tea, perfect
