Morocco 2019

Further to my post above, if your only visiting Asilah for a data card, you know it's going to be a long que! You have an alternative at Tiznet that has good parking next to the Maroc Com and they are very good at issuing data cards. I was in and out today in under 15 Minutes with 10 of that teaching the Moroccans how to speak proper English. If you want details just ask away.

Where is the good weather, sunny here on the spainish/Portugal boarder, but bloody chilly, I’ve got my jeans and socks on, and that never happens. I need more warmth to persuade SWMBO to travel over soon.

We have now got very good weather. For the first time this morning getting out of bed was ok and not having to put on our bath robes to keep the chill out. The wind coming of the sea is no longer cold and we can walk along the beach front in shorts and T shirt and feel comfortable. Just now the sun is sinking into the far off sea and it's cooling down but still into the teens. We will be here for a few days I fancy. We will visit the fishing village tomorrow in search of fresh fish. The mosk is about 200 mts from us so no need to set alarm for morning lol.

@PhilandMena
We've heard the guardian parking near the roundabout at Asilah is closed, is this correct

Don't think 'matey boy' had time to stop there Anne & Brian, on his dash down to Cape Town.

The 'mosk', as you call it Phil, will call the residents to pray 5 times a day, so chances are you will be disturbed at some time or other. (y)

There is still guardian parking near the roundabout at Asilah..........................we found it a good first stop to settle into Morocco................and also to get a sim card (that is working very well by the way)

At the rate you are travelling Phil you could wait for Tiznit...................but it's a couple of weeks ahead for us and we do like our internet...................TIP in the Asilah Maroc Telecom shop don't queue behind 3 couples who are each buying new smart phones and sims and registration. But I am surprised how many sites seem to be offering free reasonable wi fi.

Now in Oualidia in Camping Laguna, a beautiful site overlooking the lagoon...................all facilities including hot water for dishes and free internet.....................suits me sir.

Not a problem Ken, we will still get a good night's kip and some of the singing can be nice to listen to.

We were in asillah on Tuesday, I didn't see any parking near the roundabout but there was guardian parking on the beach if that's any good for you

I think you will find that is in the North of the town and very close to a largish roundabout on a large square next to the beach.

They moved the guardian parking by the roundabout at the north end of Asilah across the road couple of years ago, we were told to make room for development. I've since heard that had been closed but there is confliction in the reports. There used to be GP on the beach outside the old town walls but never went there as it looked a bit undesirable.

I've also been told the campsite is practically the same price as the GP.

Be interested in any updates - we'll be there couple of weeks time inshallah.

@TerryL you have offered so much info about Morocco I am glad to post something in return.

We saw, last week,(was it really only last week ??) as you drive down the main street past the Maroc Telecom office you pass Camping Asaada and Camping Echingui on the left. At the roundabout you cut back on the same road to enter the campsites..................but if you take the road back along the seafront you immediately find the guardians directing you to a place on the left OR immediately opposite to a place through the restaurant and onto the beach.

The cost is 40dh but the camping with electricity, hot showers, toilets and free internet was 80dh..........guess where we stayed.

There also seemed to be some unofficial (what does that word mean in Morocco) parking up by the Medina walls

Thanks for that @webby1 looks like all the GP is still there then; have stopped there each time we've been and also this time need a new datasim card. It was only 10 dirhams the first time though.........

This is what the thread is all about, passing on info.(y)

11 Deg first thing this morning. At last, were into the good weather, Not used any Butane gas yet but suspect I will be on it within the next 3 - 6 days. My expectation is at this temperature it will be fine. Just googled it. Boiling point is - 2 Deg C, so will be fine here but no good at Tafroute until mid Feb. earliest.

As the advance ‘party’ please keep your weather updates coming. We’ve decided to cross tomorrow morning, and then down to kenitra . Insallah :)

I expect to be well rewarded for my services and I don't come cheap. It's overcast here now, so the temperature is still on the low double figures but once the sun breaks through we feel a step change for the better. We too made Kenitra our first stop after exiting the toll road at the top of the N1 then driving down via Asilha. A long drive with some sections of the N1 a bit iffy but not a problem with concentration. The Toll road would be a lot quicker and a much better drive, but not as scenic.

Sitting in the sun at tafraoute, it's just gone 11 am phone says it's -2 motorhome external temp +16 , please believe me the mothome temp is correct it's gorgeous here and has been since Thursday

Phil the gas will be fine, we used it no problem for years, it’s all they use all over Morocco, for cooking and heating and they use it 365  with no worries even up in the mountains ;)

30 ish, cold at night , good excuse for a cuddle
You can add another zero on that for 2015 a little less in 2016 and I suspect around 200 for this year but in saying that we are seeing more French on this trip than ever before.

Thanks for the heads up Marc what you say makes total sense, I just took for granted what others were saying about propane is the only gas to use in Marco and as you say the gas will not be racist and will work for all of us. I have a filter anyway that connects to the bottle so the gas that goes onto my system will be clean and particulate free. Seen one of the biggest herds of camels hete today. Did not expect that, I thought they would be much further south, the odd ones hete yes but big herds. I will post some pictures tonight. Much cooler today and quite a few clouds about but still warm enough to sit outside and read a good book, or even a rubbish one.

We arrived on 16 th. Two nights on the guardian parking at the roundabout in Asilah. 40 DH plus 5 for cassette empty.
One night at Larache with 10 amp electric. 70 DH
Now at Ocean Bleu Mohammedia 95 DH with 10 amp electric and good WiFi.

The weather is awful. Rain most of yesterday and torrential rain overnight and all day today.

The ocean isn't blue and the campsite ground is deep brown water.

Camping L'Ocean Bleu at Mohammedia was exactly the same when we were last there, ankle deep in water. I can only say don't despair, stick with it and as Phil has said, things will improve as you move further south. You will soon forget the cool wet first week.

I have a lovely bottle of red for you, recommended by and given to us by Carlos ,which even the guardian at asilah turned down. But I guess I’ll have some decent fizz if we meet up:cheers:
