Great drive from Taliouine to Ait Benhaddou. The scenery was stunning and Mena did a great job with the camera. (Directed by yours truly). Now at Camping du Jardine and already upset the owner when I insisted it was 50 Dh with lecce and not 70 because the mad Welshman said so. I ended up agreeing to his price in the end because I was wrong.
Had fun getting here,my Tom Tom Sat Nav wanted to take me off piste and I had to re directed by locals.
Still cool but warmer than yesterday, so moving in the right direction.
We have some amazing pictures and not planning to do anything much today so will suck up all the free WiFi in the hotel later and have a photo fest. Terry L be warned Lol.
Just heard Russell Crowe stayed ere a few years ago...?....Right!!

It must have dumped down last night, as there was not as much snow on the mountains when we got here yesterday?

The French van that turned up earlier left, there is now a German offroader about 500m away on the top and a short while ago 3 French lads in 1 MH towing 3 quad bikes are parked near that disused building:( Max wont be a happy bunny
Will see what the weather holds tomorrow, could possibly stay here another?
P.s the internet here is ultra fast(y)

Nice peaceful night here, albeit windy! May stop another day then make a plan whether to go to Kesh? or onto Dades and Todra gorges? has anyone ever driven from Tenerhir the R703 thru the Todra Gorge to Agoudal then the R317 to El-Ksiba picking up the N8?
Another van has just pulled in, parked on the high behind us, the co-ords I gave are where we are parked on the low level, next to the lake;)
The weather looks poor for most of the country till Fri.

The view from our window, 10mins ago :)
Taff, we cycled Todra last year, from bottom to top and back again. Where as the road surface is fine there are two river crossings, one of which we cycled through but the 2nd one we had to walk through as it was quite deep (over our knees) and fast following, it nearly took my bike out of my hands.

I think the water flow would very much depend on how much snow there has been up in the mountains.

Well the wind has abated, still a tad fresh, the French did not stop yesterday so we had the place to ourselves again, we've got 360' panoramic view, lake all around and snow capped mountains to the rear, still unsure which direction to go? may have to stop here another day:D

Been into the town of Skoura about 15km away. stocked up with essentials and came back, been joined by 3 German vans, lovely and sunny here, will possibly stay here till Fri when the weather is due to change all over the country, found somewhere to empty the cassette too

Timed our visit to Ait Benhaddou well today, warm and sunny when we crossed the bridge into the Kasbah. Immediately met by traders who clearly have experiance of dealing with naive tourest, of which there are plenty, staying in the two big hotels in the town where loads of 4x4 and modern coaches are parked. Heard a fair bit of American accents as we pushed through the Kasbahs. Guess they have to make a living here but take advantage of some and can be very pushy. Met one local who still lives there and he took great delight in showing us part of his dwelling where a prison cell scene was shot in Gladiator and also showed us his film crew badge and photo of him playing one of the guards. View from the top is stunning and we'll worth a visit but to many tourists for my liking. Got my revenge on the way out though when Mena was looking at a pair of ear rings and asked how much the guy said 150 Dh and I said they were only 30 DH in Tafroute. The guy went nuts shouting this is not Tafroute LOL Needless to say Mena refused his lowest offer and he was clearly well pissed of when told there true value.
Watched a guardien guide a 4x4 forwards lnto the rear of another 4x4,in front of one of the hotels. Then reverse him back, clipping it again with hs front wing then guide it forward hitting him in the same place as he did the first time. The driver must have been on drugs!
It has now started raining again so we timed our visit just right. Will head off to a campsite in the Todra Gorge tomorrow and explore the Gorge. More photos no doubt.

Might join you to tomorrow, your only an hour away from us. What is the track like leading from the road.

Phil we are also planning the Gorges! If you like we will have another day here, and go Fri when the weather is forecast better, the road in from the junction was tarmaced but no worse than the road into Ait Ben Haddou,
If you come stock up in Ouarzazate with bread water whatever, should be nice day tomorrow, good for your Lord Snowden portfolio :)
The Germans left, so we here again on our own,
Let me know
P.s Hurricane Xylaphone is hitting us now:(

P.s drop by anyway if you don't want to stop the day we can head out together

Ok! Sounds like a good plan. We will do as you advise, do you need anything binging in. Will probably head out around 10 ish so should be with you by midday latest.
Been looking at campsites in Todra George and there appear to be two at the far end, both in Camper Contact. The reviews in one indicate it is epensive and if so we will try the other. We need to use campites for a couple of days to ensure our fridge gas does not run out but after that were good to wild camp again. Not sure what options for Wilding are in Gorge but if you find a spot in there we can meet up as the Gorge is not too long.
Pissing down here too, we had lightening about 40 minutes ago but thankfully everything seems to be moving towards those big lakes near Quazzarzate.

Ok Phill see you here when you get here, we can make a plan then. I've got my Maroc bottle on outside:)
We went into town today, so good cheers mate.
Raining here on the Great Lakes makes me feel at home! ;)

Rained again today, thats three days running.
There is a dedicated souk for cloth, material, sewing accessories and numerous blokes who sew curtains, clothes and cushions here in Meknes. Gwen has spent so much money buying stuff for her sewing passion at one shop that we were invited to the owners house for coffee and pastries tonight.
So far she has bought dozens and dozens of bobbins of thread in all sorts of colours at prices roughly a tenth of the UK price. Also 42 metres of cloth for curtains (for the extension we havent built yet) and all the tapes and whatever needed.
Also had a wrought iron log basket and fireside companion set made by a blacksmith (for the fireplace in the as yet non-existent extension). As part of the haggling with the blacksmith when the price was finalised, she then demanded "un cadeau" so he made a large wrought iron dinner triangle and beater, like you see in the cowboy movies when its dinner time "come and get it" clang clang clang. Its bloody loud!
Weve been waiting for the blacksmith to complete his work and now its done we will be off tomorrow to Chefchaouen.

I doubt you will find any wilding spots in the gorge - its only a few metres wider than the road for most of its length. The is a car park at the far end of the deepest part of teh gorge which is free if my memory serves me right. Im not sure if you could wild there or not. I suspect not otherwise the place would be overrun with camping caristes.
As you approach the gorge you may be stopped by a local who will try to sell you a parking ticket which allows you to park in the gorge. Ignore him - you dont need a ticket at all
If you want to stay on a site we have stayed at the one in the aires book which is by the river (sorry havent got the book handy at mo) Its a fairly steep entrance but if you can get one of the spots backing onto the river its a nice place. Facilities are good too.
