Morocco 2016

My fridge has packed in! Burner going strong but no temperature, everthing defrosted overnight and fridge now 20 deg. No alarms and no indication anything is wrong.
Any ideas!
Hi Phil. Colin says try cleaning the flue, you have nothing to lose by this and it may be that it is carbon build up further up the flue that's causing the problem. If you are still in the company of Mike and Gwen I think Mike has a set of brushes and knows what to do.

We had to clean ours once back in Europe and the amount of soot we cleaned out was amazing, blame Spanish or Moroccan gas which ever you like. Our fridge is working better than ever now, with no nasty smells from the vent.

We are going to remove fridge this morning so we can access the locking screw on the vent T piece, then remove and give a good clean. The locking screw is situated facing the inner outside wall of the motorhome and virtually innacessable due to the gap. I have tried several times to get at it and losses it but not possible. Will have to slide out from inside and gain access to rear of fridge from inside the van.
I know what to do because we done this with Mike's fridge a couple of weeks ago and although he has now left there are enough of us here to bugger it up completley.
If that fails I will try camperserve when we get to Portugal.
Thanks for your kind help.

Good luck Phil and don't let anyone poke a pin in the jet - famous Maroc remedy for poorly fridges! It will never be right again.

Hope you get it sorted Phil, got enough technicians still on site! shame I weren't there to supervise;)

No chance of that happening. Lots of help this morning, fridge disconnected from services and pushed back six inches so we get access to that sodding screw. Once removed we got the T piece and baffle out, covered in soot and gave the flue a right pasting. Got quite a bit of soot out but I don't know if it is the root cause of the problem but suspect it is simply because no warnings were coming from the fridge.
Everything back together and the burner is roaring! I have a thermometer in the fridge and will check in an hour or so and hopefully I will be able to post the

Thanks for the updates Mark, keep them coming. Stunning pictures. Andy and Denise left this morning and will give me an update on the R105 from Taf to Agadir. Looks like I will be travelling this way to get onto the N10. Glad to hear it's good. We too will then be heading to Ait Ben Haddou and we may arrive Wednesday. Mike Makems recommended the campsite Auberge Camping Kasbah du Jardin, closet campsite to the Kasbah. 40 Dh according to the Moroc Book but will have gone up a little I would think.
Yes Herman the German's left Friday morning. They were invited but declined and never saw them smile once during their whole stay.
Safe Travels

Arrived in Meknes late afternoon after a long drive from Marrakech where it was 36C yesterday when we arrived from Agadir.
We spent a full day at the grand souk in Agadir which turned out to be a VERY expensive shopping trip. After buying babouches for every friend and relative she could think of Gwen spotted a carpet that she thinks will look beautiful in front of the wood burning stove. ( thats the stove that we havent bought yet that will go in the living room of the extension that we havent started building yet)
We had to get a taxi back to the van to get some money then go to a bank to get it changed then pay the poor man the thousands of dirhams he was charging us! :crying:
She was on good haggling form though. Not least when she bought a leather purse for 50dh which had started at 180dh! :clap2:

Thanks Mark, are you sure about the 109 to Taroudante ! Happy to use this route if road is known to be good. I think one Funster used it last year and it was a bit of a mare.
Only Busman Dave, Darren and myself here now. Dave leaving this morning and me tomorrow morning.
want to watch the Rugby last night. (We won the Grand Slam by the way). Football match finished at 8pm only to be switched over to another one LOL. Half of Taf suckling up internet so had to follow on BBC Sport, which was a drag. Looks like the Frogs turned up to play too.

Our friends Mike & Marguerite drove it from Tafroute, said took 4hrs lots of hairpins? which is natural and road surface not good in places? again common for Morocco no diversions like the 106 to Taliouin

Just done 10 lengths of the pool at the side:LOL:

Mark, the wild camping we stopped at by the barrage can be reached by turning off the main road at the following coordinates.

30deg 58' 33.42" North
6deg 45'29.68" West

We found a small supermarket in Ouazarzate which sold alcohol. Its on a main road facing a small souk somewhere around.

30deg 55' 13.33" North
6deg 54' 54.86" West

We stayed at a camping auberge at Ait Ben Haddou at these coords

31deg 02' 51.05" North
7deg 08' 07.88" West

which is the one you've just posted about.

Mark, both Daz & Lin jumped in that very same pool last year and nearly had a thrombo the water was that cold I recall. Daz said it worked wonders on his wedding tackle NOT:rofl:

Yep, on that great road from Tafraout to Tata in the middle of nowhere and 4 Moroccans in a posh BMW stopped and took over and I was back on the road in a half hour. Now parked at municipal camping Tata and guardian sorting new tyre, watching Barcelona on big screen at the pool. Bloody hell another tough day eh!
Got nothing but praise for the people in Morocco
