Morocco 2016

Sat on the dockside at Tanger waiting to board.
Had a great coup,e of days in Chefchaouen - what a beautiful place!
Made the short drive without incident today, but stopped for lunch at Martil which looks to be a very nice seaside resort. We found a great guardian parking spot just yards from the beach for 17dh a night. If you make your way to campsite 11 in the book you should come to it on your right. Go straight past and turn left on the beach road, then take your first le and there is a huge car park. You can see it on your left as you pass the campsite
It must be officiall sanctioned because there is a large metal plate with all the parking proces diesplayed. 5dh for day parking and 12 dh for overnight.
Its about 60km from Tanger Med so good for a first or last night stop.

Now the clocks have changed, the times of the Balearia ferries have gone back by an hour. So the 5pm ferry we are waiting for will leave at 6pm.
Weve had a great time in Maroc this year. Seen some places we havent been before and had some great company for much of the time.
See you all again soon, somewhere.

As suggy says we stayed on there 2 nights no guardian
Great place to watch mountain climbers on face right in front of you
Well worth it
Very quiet and dark at night
Do you perhaps mean this place. On the right, past the sellers and we too saw mountain climbers at this spot. One looked very fit indeed.

Now at Mekne guardian parking with Mark & Sam after overnighting at the municipal camp site at Midelt. Both places have increased their prices, 90Dh at Midelt (with lecce), 40 Dh at Meknes.
Pulled in for a coffee where the wild monkeys are near Azrou, not really expecting to see any and a large troop came right down to the motorhome area and came very close. Will post some pictures later.
Plan to stay here a couple of nights as it's calm and warm.

Please excuse my ignorance.
I can have a good logical guess but, what is 'guardian parking'?. When would you be likely to use it.
cheers.

No probs! Guardian parking refers to an area that could be as big as ten football pitches or as small as one parking space that is manned by one or more individuals who monitor the parking area (and in many cases guard the motorhomes parked there), for a daily fee. The guardian parking area in Meknes is right in the heart of the city besides the royal golf course and a guy will be sitting on a chair all night long beside my motorhome, or within close vacinity.
These places are in Camper Contact and other camping books i.e. Camping Morocco.
You would use it because it is either, practicle, cheap, only option and or suitable location.

Cheers Mike, going to give this a try.

Hey guys you all need to stay there as long as you can... its still cold in northern Europe. .. we're back on the road doing the west coast of ireland the realy wild atlantic way clair n kerry. Bright cool but blowing big waves.

Quite hot today, here in Meknes. Mark is getting a couple of tyres fitted in situ, right next to me at the guardian parking and I thought before heading out to lunch I would put up some pictures of the minkeys at Azrou forest we met yesterday.

Now settled in at Chefchaouen. We did plan to stay at Quezzane with Mark and Sam but had a change of mind as we approached the campsite and decided at the last moment to carry on to municipal at Chefchouen. Mark and Sam will rejoin us tomorrow. We have decided we are now ready to leave Moroc, the weather in Gib and the Algarve is warm enough for us to make a move and we will spend at least all day here tomorrow, exploring Chefchaouen and probably cross over on Saturday morning.
Spent the latter part of the afternoon on the hotel varender sipping ice cold beer and watching the town below.
The campsite is a shithole not worth 50 Dh never mind the 110 Dh they demand with lecce. Needs a bit of competition or alternative gaurdien parking to knock their arse into gear.

Had a great day to day with Mark and Sam. Visited Chefchouen town this afternoon with Marc, what a place, a shoppers paradise, or perhaps just market day. Later the four of us had beer o'clock in the hotel and then a few back at Marc & Sam's motorhome and had a few more and put the world to right, as you do.
We, Mena and I will be heading off tomorrow and crossing over on Saturday morning.

Leaving Tafraoute today and starting the journey back north.

Enjoyed every day here and the company that have passed through while we have been pitched here. Only been about 20 vans here for the last week or so, coming to the end of the season for campers, but there seems to be more hotel tourists in town now.

We will be back!

Took this picture of women selling in the street and was spotted by at least one who was ready to castrate me. Mena say's I've got no balls anyway so it would not have made a difference.

Drove to Tangier port overnight stop given to me by Mike the Makems at Ksar Sgir. It is perfect and has a fuel station for that final fill up in the nearby village on the way out to the port.
Again, we changed our mind and are now sitting on the quay side waiting for the 6 pm ferry, this means we can spend all day Sat and Sun in Gib then drive to El Roccio in the rain that is predicted for Monday.
We loved Morocco again, a great country, with great people and once again we were in the company of some smashing people, it would not be the same without you. You know who you are.
Safe Travels.

Thanks for all the wonderful posts and pictures from Morocco. In the depths of a dark wet winter you all brought some wonderful sunshine into our life.

Safe travels fellow Funsters, we aim to join you one day.

Funny enough I led the way from Barrage El Mansour, up the Dades Gorge, thru the Todra Gorge, onto Erichida and Midelt, onto Meknes and then to the Carrefour for someone to get a few bottles of plonk, then I followed a certain person for 13km outside Meknes and he decides to take a scenic route thru Moulay Idriss:LOL: a quick call on the walki talki where are you going Phil? it's straight on!! I'm following my satnav Marc lol came the reply :ROFLMAO: even thou at the said turn off it was sign posted Ouazzane/Tetuanne straight ahead, so while Phil did a tour of Moulay Idriss medina I carried on regardless of satnav and got to Ouazzane 1/2hr before Philliasfogs arrival:p

I would like to echo Mousy's comment as well.
I have followed your adventures with an aspiration to follow them to some extent in a year or so's time when my wife retires. Thank you for your posts and pictures and I hope we are lucky to have the same fortunate travels that you have had. Safe journey back to the UK, should you so desire. Inshallah.

Regards
Nik.
