Morocco 2016

Update on the gas ( we re now in tafroute see above - so glad its working.)

Yes they filled our french bottle with proper propane at camping Bakanou Tifnit 18Dh/KG.

And everything is working properly again. My conclusion is that the Truma secumotion regulator does not cope well with the Moroccan butane.

I can confirm from a reliable source (I was told by someone who was told by a local) that the almond blossom festival is on over the weekend of 4 - 7 march.

They have started on the stages.

Ps. Just started raining again.

Hi All,
We are thinking of popping across to Morocco at the beginning of April. Do you think it will be a lot quieter then ? We would like to miss the crowds if possible. We have been in March (busy) and September (quiet) but never in April. Any advice would be welcome.

Found the easy to get to Tafroute..............

Roads are as bad. Price is as good. Water supply not as good. WC dump just as bad. Food cheap. This place ?

Pria da Rocha.

Nice machines

Some friends of ours bought the first one in the UK last year a 79 Loft, very happy with it.

Morello apparently belongs to one of the sons from Concorde who went his own way about 3 years ago. There are three of them around Schusselfeld now - Concorde, Pheonix and Morello.

Wonderful trip through to Tata, very scenic.

And their old Clou Liner is still for sale at Premium some 6 months later, having been reduced a couple of times

Some of you are not going to agree with this!
I have just had a full 12 KG bottle refill of propane for 50 Dh. We are now at Tiznit, at Camping Assllaf and I asked them if they could replace my almost empty propane bottle with a full one. The guy on reception who spoke good English said when do you want it, I said now and off he went on his bike with my almost empty bottle and came back with a full one. That will be 50 Dh. Mike and I were convinced it was Butane and so I went and had anotherc hat with him, resigned that I had butane and not Propane. He said, You have a full bottle of propane which is freely available in Tiznit. There are two places where you can get propane, Agadir and here. The price for a refill in Tiznit is the same regardless of weather you have propane or butane. If this is so, a few Funsters including me have been paying over the odds.
Anyway, Mike, Gwen, Mena and I will be arriving in Tafrout tomorrow and we are looking forward to meeting you all again.......especially if you have alcohol.

Some pictures from the drive up today.

We cant have passed without noticing. Did you go via Igherm?

The road we followed ( thanks to maps.me) I cant find on the map. It came out at issafane marked as souk-kemis d'issafen on the wonderfully accurate michelin map. We seemed to be on the top of the world, will try and post some pics later.

Haha
You must have passed us on the way ? We left there this morning. Your right about the views, even better on the way back though.
Phil not like you are you sure your not getting your Tan Tan's mixed up with your Tata's

I think it must be an age thing with Phil.
It's all these places that begin with T. Must be confusing for the old duffer.

Yes its a four cylinder manual, not the most popular option but a very well-maintained and presented vehicle.

Well maintained maybe, but very agricultural sounding. You would need another holiday if you'd driven it all the way to Maroc and back.

' There are two places where you can get propane, Agadir '

Actually Phil, Agadir propane comes from the gas plant in Marrakech.(y)

Reluctantly we have to move on tomorrow. We came to Tafarout with no deadlines but one has come up which means Colin has to be back in the UK for 20th March. We have decided to move on tomorrow with @Bentleybill making a steady journey towards Merzouga to see the dunes and the race that's due through there on the 4th.

Hope the @makems and @PhilandMena get here soon so we get at least one beer o'clock with them.

I shall miss Tafarout, and the TAF Running Club and everyone here, it's been a blast.

A view of the camping grounds from the Surf Board.

Hi Colin & Sandra (and Bill & missus)

If you want a stunning route to Tata on good roads then take the following.

R105 out of Tafraoute
at the junction with the R106, bear right on to R106
on reaching Azgour turn right (no road number) to Ifsfass
then head for Issafn and the R109
at junction with R109 turn right and follow a wide river valley heading for Tata

Ask Dave for more details

If I ever get my insurance sorted we will be in Morocco in the first half of April. Hope our paths cross. I would also be interested in any advice on Morocco at that time of year.

We would totally second that.

We travelled from Tafraoute to tata yesterday by that route - stunning!!! the photos dont and couldnt capture it, what a lovely trip, took about 3.5 hours travelling with hardly any traffic. single lane most of the way but wide enough for any campers and mostly good surface ( there were 3 bits where we crossed previously washed out bridges but perfectly passable).

Tata was nothing special ( in our opinion) but quite a nice easy 4 hour fairly scenic trip from there to Zagora. Now parked up in Les Jardins Camping, looking forward to tomorrow.

All the best everyone

Jon & Sue
