Morocco 2016

Just to add, that you need Lidl at Palmones Commercial Centre. There is at least one other in Algerciras.

Some advice please regarding breakdown cover.
Based on reading threads on Morocco, I thought the way to go was ADAC. Had a conversation with them today, wherein the lady advised that the breakdown cover on their plus membership only covered for 92 days in one trip. So how do you get round this if you have been on the road for a much longer period? I'm thinking along the lines of, how would they know how long you had been away from home.

How do you seasoned Morocco travellers get around this?

Keith

Many just don't bother, it's pretty easy to get assistance at reasonable prices, look at the various threads, there are others who say ADAC is not that useful in Morocco. Use the search button on the forum you will find plenty of info.

Sorry for not specifying which Lidl, assumed you had read TerryL's resources document on Morocco. It's well worth downloading while you have wifi and referring to it.

You might want to think about downloading maps.me and using this as some roads have been updated and not always on the paper map.

Updated it today Colin makes the iPhone very hot but the best app on my phone!

Just back from climbing a rediculous peak with @horshamjack, @Busman, @PhilandMena and Ian. I have taken the liberty of naming it 'Twin Peaks' due to the two stones (bloody great monoliths) at the peak.

'Done it now, won't be doing it again' was the unanimous view of the group!!!

Views from a distance, and a "selfie" of the conquerors.

Naturaly, someone had to look after base camp while others made the final push and took all the glory. Bit like Tenzing and Hillary.
I have some fabulous pictures but once again let down by crap internet. Will try again later.
Well done to the conquerours, it was a tough climb. Abdul, chief tea maker, sherper carrier, washer up and base camp guardien.

Some pic's from today's climb. Unfortunately, I had to go all the way back when near the summit for more oxygen bottles so those chosen few could complete the final push. I'm just a simple support Sherpa type guy.

The beast !

The team, the ascent and the success.

Bugger! bugger! Pierre is sucking up all the internet again.

After a stunning journey, broken by stops at Tata, and Foum Zouid, we are now in Zagora on a lovely quite campsite just on the outskirts of town, just us and one other van. Our neighbours are French and have just returned from 3 months touring Mauritania. Wish I could speak French, from the little I understood it seems they had a fantastic time.

So that's the good things that have happened, now the bad things - Izzy is poorly and we have to get her to a vet. We believe there is one in Zagora and will be ringing round soon to see if we can get an appointment, the info has been gleaned from Google and is somewhat conflicting to say the least. The campsite owner has offered to drive us there, but he is not aware of a vets in the town. If not we are going to have to do a dash to Marrakech where there are at least three animal clinics..........and this trip was going so well!

Sorry to hear that Izzy is feeling poorly :(@Armytwowheels. Hope she is feeling better soon and back to being top dog bossing all other dogs around.

@Tiki skipper
It's the one I the same square as Leroy. Try and download maps.me at a McDonald's. They have WiFi and once it's downloaded you don't need WiFi to use it.

Well that all turned out OK in the end.

The owner of the campsite ( Camping Restaurant Auberge, Zagora) is my new hero and we are very grateful to him. His solution to our problem was to take us to the government agricultural office, from there we were directed to the vets, who turned out to be a government vet that usually treats cattle. Whilst trying to get over the language barrier, Izzy obliged with a fit of sneezing on que and the vet knew what was wrong without the need of us to explain. A sinus infection, which we had guessed at anyway. A scrap of paper from the vet and a further drive to a Pharmacie and Izzy has antibiotics.

Will hang around Zagora for a few days just in case, don't fancy having to find another vet, if indeed there is one in Merzouga.

What could have been a stressful and worrying situation turned out to be anything but, thanks to the helpful and kind nature of the Moroccans in general. Oh and the vet didn't charge us a thing for the visit.

What are the ladies doing today, just having a few moments of peace and quiet or what?

The ladies have gone to luncheon at the pool restaurant. Presumably to try and get out of their minds the image of 6 blokes indulging in a spot of male bonding at the hamam! (Photos/video footage to follow)

Followed by the tagine in Daves post above.

A very ........ experience!
