Morocco 2016

We are at Zagora and will be heading towards Merzouga on Thursday. Tom-Tom has given us the route from Zagora to Tazzarine via the N12. Anyone know what sort of state that section of the N12 is like?
Hi Ali & Tim, road spot on, tarmac all the way. We had 3 great days there, then got caught in a sand storm

Phil drove it last year against my recommendation and lived (minus fillings) to regret it.
How true, won't be doing that again. If you reach the big sign telling you 50 Km then some ting in Arabic turn round,go back and loop round on another road.
Of course it may be a tarmac dam road soon as Moroc is investing big time in upgrading and repairing roads.

Final packing of tiki ready for our big trip she's running like a dream with her new gearbox and fresh tyres. Freezing cold and snow here in the north of Ireland. Will hit the road on Friday, yay.

Enjoying reading about your trip. Sorry to keep butting in about insurance but did any of you buy insurance at the border? If so how much is it and where from.

Now sitting by the Lagoon at Chbika and the wind has dropped considerably. Some drive coming up from Dakhla and Bodjour. Both days driving through sand storms and yesterday the N1 was closed in places due to sand drifts. Mind you the big JCB'S were on the scene very quickly and the road opened. I didn't get any pictures either as camera in back of van but will post a couple I took on route later providing we can get internet connection, it's a bit hit and miss down here. Might hang down here for a bit as it's definitely getting colder the further north we go and beides, we have a serious amount of sand/ dust that needs to be removed from the van and some small self maintenance tasks to undertake.
One of them being how to resolve blocked windscreen washers, I've tried clearing the holes with a needle but no joy. Can the washers be prized off without causing damage ( Fiat x 250).

Phil,

washer sprayers are usually retained by two clips on underside of bonnet. Remove hose feed, depress clips with pair of pliers and they should pop out. Hit them with an airline - sorted!

Keith

In compliance with Terry's request, some resized pictures of our drive up from Dakhla and the countryside just North of Laayoune.

ot on the Fiat x250. the washers come out of the scuttle and it looks like no way to get underneath. There must be a simple solution and someone will pop up on here soon I'm sure.

Sounds as difficult to access as the washer motor on my Ducato. I reckon on 2 hours taking stuff off just to get at it.

why oh why are you going to swap a bracing breeze on the giants causeway or a beverage in port rush for the warm sunshine and dirt cheap food of Morocco?

My Autotrail was an 09 X250 and the washer jets were in a cylinder of plastic that pushes in from the side of the little block holding the jet. When in place it looked like a stamp on the side but push hard with a small screwdriver and the unit comes out.you may then find the blockage behind the cylinder.

snow in maroc is a regular thing in lots of places
have seen lakes and rivers frozen over in the mountains .
in the morning in the desert by dinner time in the snow ,at tea time surfing in the warm sea , ha ha

Windscreen washer problem resolved. Motorhome cleaned inside and bedding changed. Major laundry day today and the day is calm and we have good weather again. Not as hot as Dakhla but hot enough to get down to shorts and present naked torso to the elements and blast my French neighbours with some Keb Mo.
Mike and Gwen 30 Minute drive behind us on the beach at Chebika (this is a superb free stop over with good shelter) at both will be prone, soaking up the rays and the views, below and unlikely to move for a while yet !!!

Pictures still reduced Terry but not as small as you recommended. (I just will not be told, will I LOL)

LOL !!! Just watched the Frenchies next door, She spent most of yesterday and all of this morning cleaning and polishing the outside of their motorhome and she done a great Job. The motorhome was gleaming. After she finished, Pierre climbed on top with a mop and 4 five litre bottles of water (you know where this is going don't you) and has given it what I can only describe as the big licks. Motorhome now looks like its been driven through a car wash that had it's water cleaning system filled with shit ! He's now started on the front, sides and back with the mop and I'm pissing myself!.

This morning saw another trip up to the surfboard. This year with Lynne, @Armytwowheels and Ian.
The five of us took just 3 hours there and back and I managed , as lead sherpa, to follow no path, again.
First pic - the surfboard from a distance.
Lynne on lookout.
Colin and Sandra.
Ian on the board and Colin under it!

I may be wrong but i thought I'd read that the last section of piste on the N12 was complete now? Without going back thru the posts

The last section of the N12 from Tazzarine to Rissani is ok. But the stretch from Zagora to Tazzarine is still bad:crying:It starts off ok but deteriorates after a couple of miles. We met a French van coming the other way and he stopped us and although I couldn't understand what he was saying we got the gist from the arm waving and facial expressions, that the road was m**de!!! So we turned round and went the N9 route (y)
Now at Auberge Rose de Sable in Mergouza and going for 4x4 trip into the dunes tomorrow.:)

Or the bracing gobbins cliff path( now broken by the sea) but hey how many storms do we need !!!!! We're of to the sun tomorrow. Hope there is still some left by the time we get there!!!!

It's quite gratifying to know " that you were warned " re the N12

Rain, rain, rain. We have now had 15 hours of rain, on and off, mostly on at Camping Atlantique, El Ouatia. Mena timed it perfectly by bringing in the last of our laundry as it started and my Motorhome is almost sand free. Clean roof and solar panel and clean outside, apart from underneath.
For the first time since entering Moroc, I am wearing long pants. It's cool and compared to the Western Sahara bloody freezing. Hoping to hook up again with Mike and Gwen later today.
What is the weather like in Tafroute by the way.
