Morocco 2016

Mena and Gwen went into town yesterday and met some of the Kings air hostesses when they visited a hair dresser. Got talking to one of the girls who was apparently very beautiful and spoke perfect English and they had a right old chin wag. Appears the girls parents are disappointed in her because she is an air hostess and travels a lot on her own ? Her fiancée also wants her to quit and dissaproves of her working but this young lady has a mind of her own and refuses to give up her job and also said she would not have children until she wanted them. Good for her. She said the King was a wonderful man, very kind and treated all of his staff with respect and great kindness. They all adore him. Good for Him.
Mike and I may venture into town today, the King is still here and this will be his last day. Many of the restrictions are still in place and the town is crawling with military and civilian security. Another 30+ today. Yesterday for us was maintenance day, solar panels cleaned, my reversing camera now fully working again and I sealed the cable entry with silicone which is where I believe water ingress is causing intermittent failure and a few other little jobs inside.
Checked the fridge this morning and I have 2 cans of beer left. Might as well go and top myself now !

"It's beer o'clock somewhere"

Don't top yourself - top yourself up!

Fingers crossed that repairs get finished today. 5 days so far. Mustafa is lovely but we will be glad to move on. Beginning to think he is keeping us here so we can keep finding more jobs for him haha. Been told the sparewheel carrier should be repaired this afternoon. On the plus side Tom and Angie are still here getting respay done. We had a good time with them yesterday.

We are still at Mustafa's after 6 days in the Argana hotel. Supposed to be a 4 star, however, more like a 2 star by European standards although the pool and area around was very clean with excellent service. Angie was laid up for 3 days with food poisoning - must have been dodgy omelette served in hotel. I have been eating in the Moroccan quarter with filthy loos etc, and drinking the local water with no ill effects so far - hope in continues!

Respray has been delayed a couple of days because of windy conditions. Silly me thought it was because of dust, but Mustafa with business head said it was because it would waste too much expensive paint...doooh... this is Maroc every transaction is business.

Graham and Jane are here and need serious work under the van. Can't believe the damage caused by blow out - they should be all fixed up this afternoon. Colin and gang are in danger of going Native with all the Berber fraternization - glad you are all still together and enjoying the country.

Umpires shout 'out' numptie. Owt as in :-

A load of camping vans have just moved into our camp site and I suspect they have come from the many wild camping spots along the coastal road and looking at the weather forcast for the next several days might just explin why. Wind from the North gusting on average between 35 - 45 mph and the odd burst predicted over 50 mph. I hope it's wrong but we are near an airport so assume their weather predictions are pretty good and it's already blowing hard. Bugger, we were going to wild camp on the coast tomorrow but might have to rethink that now.

@canopus @SUGGY @dabhand - Abdul, owner of Erkounte Park says hello and why you not here this year? I told him you were all too old and too poor! :Eeek::imoutahere:

Seriously, he asked to be remembered to you and says you are welcome back anytime (the man is obviously a fool!)

We then had a day at Abaynou near Guilemim at the hot springs, unfortunately it was packed with school kids the day we were there all bombing in the pool,

Nice quiet spot

Hi Colin & Sandra the scenery at Erkounte is quite stark, but beautiful nonetheless. If you fancy a nice walk, come out of the main gates and turn right and then first right. Takes you down to a little fishing village which appears deserted. The village on the hill at the other side of the road may be of interest if you fancy biking up there. Finally, don't miss Legzira (about four/five miles towards Sidi Ifni) amazing cliffs and rock formations.

Give our regards to Abdel. His pizza and salads look just as good. He does a mean moroccan fish & chips. Wish we there, inshallah next year.

.
I will second that. A stunning little place. Guardian parking for 10 Dh, although our man must have disappeared when we left so we parked for free. Down all the steps to a lovely spot where you can do lunch on the beach watching the surfers and the stunning views.

Thanks for the info about Legzira. Is that where you photographed the rock arches on the beach? When we first got here we were not feeling the love for this place and was only going to stop one night, but then I remembered your photos from last year. We were going to ask in reception where to go to see these.

Hi @TerryL, @Portland, @Dazzlin

Got here at Tata at about 4. Missed the turn in Ighem and followed the R109 route. Rock formations incredible!! No room at the parking in front of the piscine so came to Camping Palmier just along the road. Seems ok except that the mosque is opposite and the 'call to prayer' is deafening:Eeek:

Had a wander round the town and will probably move on to Foum Zguid tomorrow.

We are seriously thinking of going in January, been wanting to go for a while, Talked to a few members at rally in Harrogate last year and like the sound of possibly tagging on with others who have done it.
Got other things planned for this year so looks like Jan 17. Hope we can meet other who have "done it" during the course of this year so I can pick their brains !!
Have travelled extensively over most of Europe for last 14 years but have that itch to go somewhere we have never been !!
Any info would be very much appreciated

Just keep dropping in on this thread(and last years) tjay, the beauty is its people who love the place but aren't afraid to tell it like it is and are always happy to pass on their knowledge before and while your here.
Love it and thanks again to fellow funsters in Maroc
Inshallah

Found this pic from 2014 when we were at Legzira. We were lucky to time the tide just right for the walk thru the arches.

You mean you didn't leave the 10dh under a rock for the guardian? Not kosher Phil, not kosher!!

Mind you it probably beats the all you can eat Chinese buffet in Benidorm, which although lovely is probably what's keeping me awake! Gung hay fat Choi!!

Its offical! Van fixed and we are ready to roll. Mustafa and his team have done a fantastic job at a very reasonable price. Going to head for a beach somewhere nice between Agadir and Essauoria. Again thanks to all for all the help advice and support.

Thanks Tom and Angie @tgee we have really enjoyed their company over the last 2 days. Their van is looking very good after its respray.

That would be helpful Dave, I asked Colin and Sandra to pick me up 48 cans when they were in Algecerias but not sure if they had the room to do so and a little concerned if they said yes they would get inundated with requests from other Funsters, so go ahead and I'll square you up when we eventual get to Taf. If it turns out I have 96 cans, then I will be having many beer o'clock's with good company to boot.
