Morocco 2016

@SUGGY

Just started your xmas pud tonight we picked up when we bumped into you with George & Anne at Mijas, thanks.

Lynne had cream with hers, I had brandy & cream!

Suggy,
Carlos's office added the scooter to the motorhome paperwork , and insured it at a kiosk after the customs,in tangier med, so could have not insured it, of SWMBO had allowed it!!. €62 for 10 days, expensive , but done in 5 minutes.
Moved down to Kenitra , and cycled into town, chaos, only to realise that 500m from the campsite was an amazing souk.
Tomorrow who knows
But it poured down all morning, but as we decided to continue driving it wasn't a problem.
But still no camels for our grand daughter, who at 5, is loving it .

P.S any good places to stay in Casablanca ??, is it worth a visit ?

As always , thanks in advance

You stay right by the Mosque in the side road, with the , the mosque worth a visit Casablaca very very busy.

We have our insurance through caravan club and got our green card without any extra charges. They did not exclude south of tan tan (no exclusions on paper work either). Mind you its our first time in Morocco so I did not ask either. Just asked for 90 days from 5th December. Green card arrived couple of days later. Will have to double check for next year. Thanks for the heads up. Currently at sidi kuoaki. Love Morocco
Are you with Aviva through the CC?

How do we find it ?, is it easy ??

The best way to say is it's right next to the sea on the coast road, we got caught up in the 4 lane traffic wondered were the heck we were. Did our usual trick I jumped out got the taxi in front of us to take us there. But if you get on to the coast road head for the mosque you will come to it. The parking is the road by the big Island by the mosque. It's very safe as the mosque police have a guard post right on the end of the street.

Dave, of its not too late can you get me a slab too?
My daily rate of beer consumption has doubled since I started travelling with Phil

I'll sort you out when I see you at Taf.

Mike
Dam already been now at Wassay Beach, got 2 slabs 1 each how's that, if we nip back before Taf will get more,

Re green card the last 2 yrs I asked for 120 days and got it no problem at no extra cost, just gives you that little leeway on your 3 month entry/exit dates.

I hadn't heard from the CC and no green card so I decided to ring again today. I got a young girl who said someone rang me in January but there was no answer. "Member service?"
She couldn't answer my question so said the man dealing with it would call me back. He did to tell me that Aviva want another £160 for the green card.
He couldn't tell me if this charge related to a daily or weekly fee or even if it was different for areas of Morocco.
I won't bore you all with the details but will post the outcome
I posted this here rather than the insurance section as I think it is relevant to readers on this thread......if you want to go to Morocco DONT INSURE WITH THE CARAVAN CLUB !
Phil

Just a thought - when does your insurance fall due. If there isn't too much to loose, you could try Safe Guard, we could have a green card for however long we wanted it for.

It's lovely Jon. A very scenic drive here, I had forgotten how beautiful this place is. Bright blue sky's but cool tonight, so more comfortable to sleep. We have found a nice pitch near the edge of the gardian camping and have put the handbrake on for a few weeks.

A question to those with Morocco experience.
Firstly, thank you for posting your stuff on here. I have really enjoyed reading about you experiences, particularly as we hope to venture that way within the next 2 years, retirement allowing. Thank you.
Question: Do you use anything like a safari room if parked up for a few days? I wouldn't use one on a short stop but was wondering if you maybe use just a side wall or two as a wind break.
I wish you all a safe time out there and safe return home, should you so desire.
Best regards
Nik.
As Sparkly said, most people just use a sun blocker for the front of the awning to create shade. The thing with certain parts of Morocco is that the wind has a habit of get up in an instant so a quick pack up strategy is essential.

There are are least 3 ATM machines. One by the post office (top road) and one in centre by roundabout

Colin
Thanks Colin. I need to make sure I have a enough cash to buy some shoes while I'm here.

Its a massive one - second biggest in the muslim world I think. Its right on the seafront at casablanca, you can see it for miles. We stayed at Ocean Bleue Mohamedia and scootered in. I know MHs do park on the side road but we didnt fancy it. Dar Bouza on the other side isnt far away but never stayed there.

You can get longer insurance for scooter. last time we bought 1 months for 1000dh from an Axa office. But insured it from home this time.

Jon

Must be wonderful as at that age she will remember it forever. Just need to find some Camel's .

Lovely calm morning. Checked the on-line airport weather station and the forecast looking forward indicates low wind speed. Great!

Thanks but it's due in September, I will shop more carefully next time

Ok Dave, don't worry about it.
I'll just reduce Phils consumption!
That sounds like an enforced diet to me ! Which will probably be good for me anyway , so more than happy to split it down the middle.

Got a green card for 12 months off Safeguard cos I wasn't sure of plans, shame I won't be using it!

Wind has dropped a little today and so we are out watching the surfers and it's hot, very hot above 30 again.
Yesterday we went into town and we both brimmed at the local fuel station and we both agree paid a tad more than we did in Layoune. This time 62 Lts of diesel cost me 26 Euro's.
Mike and I went into town by taxi this morning 15 Dh and I tried to exchange my small gas bottle which was a no no. Change at Agadir they said but as I was leaving shop saw a woman selling some of her possessions outside her house, on the kerb which included a small gas bottle. Result! bought it for 40 Dh took it into shop and exchanged it for a full one 12 Dh. The shop owner could not figure out where it came from but did not make an issue of it. Now got two small gas bottles LOL
The surfers are brilliant some of them professional I would hazard to guess as they take off and do somersaults and land back on the wave with everything in place and some go at breakneck speeds on big waves.
A few pictures taken a short while ago of the surfers.
