Morocco 2016

Hi guys
My name is Phil and I have been stalking you all on this and previous Morocco threads;). Lynn, my wife and I are going to set off on 1st March for a couple of weeks skiing in the Alps then will head down to Morocco. I realise most of you will have left by then but due to Lynn's work commitments we couldn't leave sooner. I have just been on the phone to the caravan club to ask for a green card and they (Aviva) want to know where I am going and when I will be there. I did ask if they were a sub branch of MI5 but they said no.....and didn't laugh. Have any of you had this problem? Do any of you insure with Aviva through the CC?

Now I have broken cover you can expect more questions I am sure:)

Enjoy what seems to be another great trip

Phil
Love your van. If ever I was to go touring that part of the world , I'd feel so much safer in something like that ! Welcome to the forum.

Ps you'd be better doing an introduction post on the main forum. I'm sure loads would be interested in your self build Fab van !

TAF not TAG - its the first signs of dementia - poor owd bugger

Phil go into a barbers and have a shave and haircut. The barber will do your nostrils, lugholes and anywhere else you may have extraneous hair growth. It won't be expensive.

PS on the road out of Guelmim there are one or two cracking Aires off the R102 at Tighmert I think. They are in walled gardens in an oasis. Look in the Vicarious book and they are in the French one as well I think.

Welcome and hope you get lots of help! Enjoy your trip:hiya2:
There asking for the country you are going to visit and date of entry as the Green Card is only valid for 3 months from date of entry. Nothing sinister ! Also you may find Terry L's information on Morrocco in the resources section very helpful.
Safe travels.

Nice one again Ken, found a barber this morning who offered the works for 20 Dh. but will let my locks grow some more I think. Will follow up your recommendations as they have been spot on so far. Enjoying it here at Sidi Ifni and will stay for two more nights minimum before moving on. I'm good with the dementia thing! In a world of my own lol.

Phil when I got mine it was for 4 months so just gave them a rough date in and out as you can only stay 3 months without extending anyway
Dave

Well that's me and Maggie holed up in Algerciras for the night, good old Carlos. 200euro's plus bott and cake :-) now just off to Lydl to buy Phil a present lol
Do I remember right that part of the road to Assila is toll ??
Any party's at the end of the week ??

Phil if you're off down to TanTan then you will come inland from Sidi Ifni to Guelmim before heading south. You will then have to come back the same way (don't trust piste roads down there) back to Guelmim. You can then find the oases on your way north east from Guelmim.

Still holed up at Sidi Wassi, be here another day then abit further South to Mirleft and Sidi Ifni, will prob get to Tafroute early Feb,

Yes Dave the A1 is toll, we payed 109mad about £7 to get all the way to Moulay, we then took the toll as far as El Jadida again another £11 but it took the stress of driving thro Casa out of the equasion, then took the coast road down to Oaulidia.

Do you insure through the CC

casa and rabat are esy if you hug the sea . at sale cross the river then take the road on the right around the walls of the medina then hug the sea . you then just follow the sea all the way throughmohammedia then casa .
we go through safi the same ,head for the port then just before it turn left then follow the sea out past the old sardine factories and the power stations etc . lovely road.

We are planning a quick taster 'visit' in 2 weeks, but, how can we contact this famous 'Carlos ' ??

Done it Al, and got the Tshirt, still have to drive thru Rabat:mad: Casa is a pain full stop, we wanted to get as far South in the least time hence paying 17notes to get to El Jadida, from then on coast road R301 N1 etc and no more tolls(y) each to their own
Like yourself and Busman was here in 1976 when Tag was the place memories eh

Had a very easy and uneventful drive down from Erkounte to Tan Tan Plage aka Oualidia and currently parked up at Campng Atlantique (87 in the book).
Quite a big site with hardly anybody here. Good facilities and 70dh incl leccy.
Not had a chance yet to investigate the town.

No cardo at garageo remember!

weve had souiria kedima (just south of safi) reccommended previously but sadly tried to go there today and 2 big signs 'No Camping Cars', looks like another one has gone.

had a lovely peaceful day and night at Lalla Fatni few days ago, wonderfull views over the beach and sea if a bit isolated. on at Essaouira for tonight.

there seems to be a brand new motorway under construction from Essaouira to El Jadida. could be handy when your in a hurry.

CC have just got back to me, they can issue a green card but I had to give them the start and end date so I opted for 90 days from 20th March. They also said I will not be insured south of Tan Tan. Thought I would post it up for info.

Why the Tan Tan restriction ?

We are insured with Comfort, policy actually with Aviva. We got a Green card without any limitation on where in Morocco we could go.
We are currently at Tan Tan and planning to push South on to Laayoune and Dakhla.

You will be heading into some pretty hot weather May/June. Looks like a truck meant for adventure you have there. (y)

We will be down in three days time, max ! Will you still be there ! If so can you get info on road down to Dakla. I've been told it's not good.

Went to the fish market today and waited for them to bring in the catch, fish is sold by weight and I had two fine Dorado, gutted and cleaned for 72 Dh. We had these tonight,

grilled with potty toes, green beans and jaspers. Superb!

What a sunset to night! and the surfers are still out there on their boards.
Tonight is film night..........with wine and perhaps just a little Remy Martin for a night cap.

Adventure is what I am building it for, we had an Autotrail Apache and toured lots in Europe but hope in future to go further. The Alps Morocco trip should be a good test of the systems. Is anyone likely still to be about at the end of March ?
