Morocco 2016

Hi WA. Your SIM card should still be good to recharge with credit. It is just he credit that runs out in 30 days but your just load some more credit on it. We just did this on the sim that we bought last year. Colin was all of 10 minutes in the Asilah MT shop a couple of days ago, a bit different to last year when we bought the sim.

Look forward to seeing you again somewhere in Maroc.[/QUOTE

Hi again, many thanks for the info. Is there a way you can tell how much data is left on the SIM, as we worry we may run out and are not anywhere we can replace it. We look forward to seeing you too.

If you send a text from your MIFI to the number 580 with no message you will get a response with how much data you have left.

Colin

@WanderingWolves - In addition to this from CP, don't worry about not being able to buy more data, nearly every town has a shop, sometimes several, where you can by a top up card. Honest they are everywhere once you get used to spotting the logo.

100 dirhams buys 12GB (£7)
50 dirhams 4GB (£3.50)

Take your choice

Thank you Sue. A stunning morning watching the sun come over the hill's and we're already into double figure's, it's going to be a hot one today.

Hi all you funsters in Morocco. We will be crossing over to Morocco a week on Saturday (30st Jan) all being well, for our third trip to Morocco.
First stop Asillah for our internet. Can anyone tell me how long a Marroc telecom sim card lasts? we had one last year, but it was just for30 days, but we could not tell if we used it almost up to the last bit or if it would have done a lot more internet for our money. we are not really internet savvy, so could do with some advice.
Last year I purchased a few 4 Gig, 50Dh a pop cards as the 8 Gig cards at 100 Dh were not being used up when the month expired. I found the 4 Gig cards were lasting me at least three weeks and when football or rugby was not being watched I would get a complete month out of one. You get a lot more for you Gig here than in Europe for some reason. We have been here for two weeks now and I have watched a whole game of football live and still have over 1 Gig left on my 4 Gig card.

Hello you lucky people .... I have been following your posts with interest. New to this and planning to leave northern ireland in four weeks and drive down to morocco ... there was a great guide to the border crossing a while ago but I can no longer locate it.. can anyone post a link to it. Would be much appreciated.

Thanks everyone for all the info on the SIM card top up. Can't wait to get out there, I am already imagining the sun on my back! Hope to see some of you out there.

It's in the "Resources" section - dark blue bar at the top of the page. Well that's where I put it!
Need any help just holler on this thread.

Just a word of warning; I bought a top up then tried to use my old data sim, which according to the previous posts should have been ok. But it wasn't and we think it was because I had used up ALL the credit so I ended up getting a new sim card MAD69 if I remember. The MAD100 top up worked fine on that.

After waiting in the queue for an hour, it took me about 3 minutes to get the new card. Probably because the guy realised I'd "bought" 5 the previous evening!

Taghazoute

On our run down from Imsouane to Tiznit we passed through Tag. I promised @Carol some photos, and we took a few but really you don't want to see them.

The village is just fine and looking out over the beach it looks as it was. But get a little closer and it's heartbreaking at what they've done. The site has been cleared and levelled and they've started putting up some hideous chalet things. The whole area is a complete mess and even the road has been diverted. From there all the way down to banana village the area is fenced off with building works going on everywhere. No doubt it will look fine, if it is ever finished, but for now just remember it as it was.

As for motorhome parking, there are no guardian sites although we did spot one or two m/hs parked up north of the village - but they may have just been day parkers. Camping Atlantic, just before banana village is still there (as per Phil) also Camping Atlantico, about 5km north of Tag.

Minigroup has more or less reformed at Tiznit and the place looks like a chinese laundry! Mustafa has worked his magic on a few of the vans, although CherryPirate has had his inverter fail; an "electrician" has taken it away so we'll find out tomorrow but they say they can fix anything in Morocco!

It's 30 deg in the shade and very breezy. Was going to try the hab air-con but I don't think the electric supply will stand it.::bigsmile:

Plan is to move on tomorrow (Sunday) to Tafraoute and stay for at least a week. Believe there are still a couple of Funsters there?

Have finally arrived at Camping Barco, Sidi Ifni after a very senic costal drive from Camping Erkounte and a lunch stop at Legzira. Five Dh for guardian parking and then down the steps to the beach and what a pretty place this is (Good recommendation Ken). We decided to splash out and had a fine lunch, under carrosels on the beach. Olives, salad, bread, grilled Dorado and chips. Coke for Mena and fresh orange x 2 for me £13.0 the lot, and you just know those fish were caught fresh that morning. What price morocco now!
As we drove into Sidi Ifni we came onto a brand new section of road near the bottom of the town and you could see the remainder of deztruction on either side of the road we read about last year. There are now 3 Campsites here. The latest one is a band new site on the site that was destroyed last year. With a brand new price structure written on the wall by the entrance, 120Dh and probably more with lecce. The site we are on is directly in front of the beach on a long terrace. I'm sitting in the on site cafe and the beach is 10 steps in front of me, and I ,m using the campsite free WiFi. It's 70 Dh a night and an extra 20 Dh if you want lecce. The showers and toilets are good. Black and grey water disposal and the motorhomes are parked in two straight lines, side by side, with enough room to erect your awning, table and chairs etc and an access track between to two rows of motorhomes.
Very warm today and grateful for the sea breeze which is now cooling us down a tad. Will explore the town tomorrow as I think it's getting near wine o'clock.

Two vans here. We'll put the flags out for you! Look out for the tall flagpole with the Scottish flag on it - with the Moroccan flag flying above it.

We'll have the kettle on and the biscuits ready.

unfortunately you wont remember when it was mainly sanddunes and a few fields . in about 97 the old king came down to tagga and we saw a big plan of what was going to happen . they flattened the dunes in about 99. later fishermans cottages and a hotel was flattened .
there is supposed to be more houses etc to be flattened . many close to tagga village are illegally built .
its going to be quite a tourist place when its done .
they did alot of prep a few years ago but then the company involved pulled out . the new king had it flattened again which i think is what you remember .
have fun there,s lots to enjoy.

Ok! Here's one for you, yesterday Mena and I were sitting in our deck chairs and we noticed quite a few French women (their all French here) returning to their motorhomes (around 5 pm as the sun started to drop) with food shopping, consisting mainly of vegitables, although one guy had a bag of fish. Why would they go out and shop at this time of the day I wonder.
A little overcast here this morning and I'm a little red after taking my top off on the beach for 30 minutes yesterday. Slept with the window open and the mesh screen down as it was so warm last night. Will explore Sidi Ifni today.

Sadly sat at home bored,Sue's mum had a few falls over new year and is in rehabilitation home.We wont be leaving until she is better and in a good care home. Also we cant face you until NCFC are above the Cherries and please dont ever mention Liverpool to us! Safe travels... Martin and Sue

We got to Erkounte just after lunch yesterday to find @PhilandMena had skipped off early to avoid us
He's like the bloody Scarlet Pimpernel ("they seek him here, they see him there")
The owners young son collared us as soon as we drove through the gates to tell us that "our friends" had left in the morning but had written a message in the guest book. "You're a pain in the arris so we've buggered off early"
Too hot to do much except sit in the sun in the afternoon when it hit 33C in the shade.
Almost no wind so we were able to sit out until after dark without even a sweater.
Cooked a massive tagine on the gas stove outside with some beef we bought in Agadir. The beef was so tender it would have been good enough for a Sunday roast back home.
Plenty left for today.

That was funny Mike, I also told Abdul and his son you used to play with a big rock group, and was a dab hand on the guitar which you always carried with you, Has he hit on you yet ! I think the son maybe seeking you out for a lesson before you leave too.
And to the good news, we are only 21 minutes in font of you and going nowhere for a few days.
Quite like it here, went walk about this morning and just about everything you could need is in this town. We found a open market and once again were impressed with the quality and varity of Moroccan fruit an vegitables. Found the fish market too and we will be eating fresh fish tomorrow.
I also found another campsite, up near the supermarket which look like an old municipal site, small and rundown but certainly cheapest in the town. I went into the new campsite to realize it was 120 Dh for a room. For motorhomes, it's 75 Dh with lecce and cold showers. The pitches are on flat gravel with lines marked out and all behind a walled area, so nothing to see except your neighbour. I still think this item is probably the best of the 4.

They shop at teatime because 'only mad dogs and english men go out in the midday sun'. They probably know the time when the fisherman land their catch up at the fish market at the top of the town as well.
Ken, yor a diamond, me old fruit pastel. I wish you were with us this time around so I could bend your ear, old wise one.
Did you sell your house, I'm told it can be the most traumatic experience. I do hope it goes smoothly for you and that wonderful wife of your's, you lucky git!
Till the next time then Obi Wan.

we used to stop at plage ftayssa just before legzira .
was a track down to the carpark by the red restaurant building . never seen the restaurant in use. used to be some small fishermans houses on the right by the sea.
we never paid to stop anywhere .
legzira was just a few places down on the beach and just a tap by some concrete steps to get to the beach.
theres quite a few nice places down tracks along that stretch of road. all worth a visit.
