Morocco 2016

We have been exploring this camp site at Tamraght (Camping Atlantic) and I can see their justification for their pricing. Have now found the swimming pool (with slides) and my take is this campsite is being used by long term residents looking at the personalisation of the static homes and the number of French Motorhomes with Awnings erected. Also found the indoor motorhome cleaning station, along with the dedicated cleaning team. 2-3 guys with all the pressure wash gear, ladders, and a shit load of liquids of various types for removing the grime and replacing the shine, the big campers coming out of there look pristine (until they travel 5 meters down the main road LOL). All for 80 Dh. If your a big boy that's not bad at all I.M.O. I won't be employing their services, I'm married with and have a wife !
Also, I have found an Infirmary on site (that's what they call it ?) with a full time nurse.
We will be pushing on shortly, just filling the cold water tank from the tap on the pitch and visiting Banna Village. It looks quite big on Google Maps, so might do a bit of a walk about.
I bought my hubcaps from the little shop by the campsite entrance and noticed Butane gas bottle for sale, asked him if he had propanno and he said Marrakesh and Tiznit. Tiznit could be handy for us on the way back up from the south to Tafroute (looks like best route and not sure of other roads). Will give you heads up on that but suspect most of you will be in Tafroute and beyond by the time we hit it again.

We have arrived. After leaving a very wet Algeciras this morning, the ferry was only 10 minutes late leaving, but then we had to sit outside the customs for well over an hour, still hissing it down and everyone was soaked. Decided to miss the currency exhchange at the port and drove straight through to Asilah, hole in the wall provided the readies, Maroc
Telecom visited for two 12 GB cards, hub cap purchased, lunch done, now for a windy but dry walk on the beach.

Not sure where to head to tomorrow, maybe Kenitra. We have to make our way to Marrakesh but want to overnight somewhere on the way.

Kenitra is fine. Stopped raining after an hour so we put the washing out again and it is now nearly dry.
We will be gone before you get here tomoz.
Doing a long run (for us) to Oualidia. Bypassing the cities. Found a free place on the beach.
Then slowing up as we head down the coast.

Carol, we're going that way next couple of days, will try to remember to get some photos for you.

Thank you Terry it's just that we have such good memories of our stay there and don't know if we will get back, it would be interesting to see what has happened there now. Have a good trip I am enjoying following your Morocan Adventures again. (y)

Look out for Ali at Oualidia. A number of us bought his home made chicken tagine. It was delicious and we all agreed that it was good value for our 100. Dirhams as there was enough for two.

We stopped at Imsouanne around lunchtime and stayed alongside the road where all the kerbing us being done. Now been moved on and told we could only stay if there was a guardian. Moved to campsite 80MAD without leccy or 100 with.

If you're coming to Tafraoute bring your own water! We have been promised the water bowser for the last 6 days and now today they say it's not coming and if we want water we have to go to the Afriqua petrol station.
Those who bring their own bucket and rope can use the well a short distance away though. But not too early in the day as the French are a bit tetchy about the noise!!

Don't use those well's they are likely to be contaminated. Last year I saw the remains of a cassette in one. You can guess who would do that.

Apart from the water bowser that has a broken axle Tafaroute is a lovely place. Dont be put off. We have been in morocco since 15.12.15 and I was not having any jobs done. We have had seats recovered in Agair great job by Rachid (plain covers red seats cream backs) and today in Tafroute had 2 pictures painted on box on back. We will be staying i Tafroute till for at least the next 10 days hope to see some funsters before we leave

The well is not where we are wild camping. It is past the 2 sites on the way out of town and has loads of french motorhomes and 1 has a submersible pump running all the time they monitor everyone who goes near it. And people draw water from it constantly. Do not think there is any danger. NOW the one near the 3 palmiers where most are wildcamping is not one to use I believe

We will be there but I don't know if we will make it in 10 days! We stayed two weeks first time there - longest stay ever at the time - last year was 4 weeks inc a week at the blue rocks. So peaceful!

Last year when we hit Tafraoute it took a week for the bowser to get round. He had to do 4 trips to fill all the empty vans.
Everyone will manage.

Hope to meet you soon.

This evening we arrived at Tifnit after spending a fabulous afternoon in Banna town and by luck it was market day, and what a market one of the best we have seen yet. It had it all, if your planning a visit try and make it on market day. There is dedicated motorhome parking about halfway through the main drag with a Hi Vi Marshall to guide you in. Not sure what cost is but I was charged 10 DH for taking up several parking spaces on min street.
I have renamed Tifnit it's now called Simonstown. (As I did with Darrens Pass) It's a stunning must see place and the metal road from the main road is short, flat and in good condition (one for you Mike!). Only problem is it has become so popular, over 200 motorhomes overnight ingredients here last year, they have banned overnight parking. Saying that, there is excellent parking near the beaches and town. When we arrived we were passing motorhomes coming from the prying areas and there was only one Herman the German motorhome parked and he broke the bad news.
Good news is there is a campsite nearby (left at the cross roads on way in) called Camping Bakanou and it's only 30 DH to overnight here. For the full Monty 70 Dh. Cassette emptying 5 Dh water fill 15 Dh (for those on the 30 DH package). Lecce 4 A =15Dh, 6 A = 30 Dh. There is a rest room, showers, toilet etc and has a little charm and space for a lot of motorhomes.
Also, he took my half empty bottle of Butane aND gave me 10 DH for the contents and will refill the whole bottle, after removing the Butane, with Propane for 18 Dh a kilo. I think this is a good arrangement and will collect the full bottle tomorrow afternoon when we leave Simonstown for our next stop.
Today at Atlantic park I ws offered a bottle of Propanno for .....500Dh. Some of them are just getting down right greedy now.
Terry, if you have your group in tow when moving past Agadir this would be a smashing and easy stopover for you all. I will try and post some pictures tomorrow given the oppertunity.
Mena has just opened the wine, so the laptop will be shut down after this post. Good night, god bless.

Thanks for the info About Tifnite Phil. We are a few days behind you. Made it to
How far South are you planning to go?
Tan Tan? LAyoune? Dakla?

We made to to Ounagha just a few km outside Essaouira today and are staying at the campsite (52 in the book)
It's a nice campsite with good, clean facilities and even a drive over grey dump. 80dh plus 25 for leccy if you need it.
The town such as it is hasn't got anything to recommend it unless you need some fancy wrought iron gates made by some very talented blacksmiths.
We stopped here instead of Essaouira because a) it's only one night, b) we've been to Essaouira three times previously and c) we needed to empty and refill so wouldn't have been much more expensive than the guardian parking.
We will be moving on tomorrow and heading for Mustafa's place in Agadir.

Some of the group are also going to Mustafas tomorrow Mike so you might have to join the queue!

As Colin posted, we've been moved on at Imsouane. The "older" vans in Phils photo are still there and we suspect there is some kind of deal going on - unfortunately an influx of our group of 6 plus several others who followed us in was probably too much. No problem with day parking but not overnight.

So as it was quite late in the day we've moved onto the campsite. Although it's not exactly got rave reviews and the turn into the access road is a bit iffy for anyone with a long overhang, it's not bad, having all the facilities including adequate loos, hot (maybe!) showers, washing up area for MAD80 and leccie for MAD30 extra. All pitches separated with enough room and a short walk onto the lovely little beach.

Incidentally, the southern P1000 in and out should not cause any problems to anybody, an excellent metalled surface although it is a little steep down to the town. Problem for the "biggies" is finding somewhere to park. Seems to be quite a lot of development going on - probably become a no-go area in the near future.

Those not going to Mustafa are pushing on down to TizNit, a site 6km further south of the town on the N1, for a couple of days, mainly to catch up with washing and things. After that we're heading up to Tafraoute. Thanks for the heads up about water @Lifesabreeze we'll see you in a couple of days hopefully.

Tifnite in fact is better known as to all Maroc veterans as 'Suggyville' and not Simonstown to which you allude Phil.

Suggy & Rosies friend Mohammed lives back down the road in a small village called ?????? just off the N1. We were all invited there last year and witnessed their version of 'Fantasia'. This involved horsemen from three local villages demonstrating their horsemanship and shooting skills. We all spent a very memorable Sunday afternoon there as I recall, with Lynda being appointed official photographer by Mohammed who was the main organiser of the event.

Ourselves courtesy of Suggy & Rosie were invited back to Mohammeds fathers house the following day where were introduced to the rest of the family and treated to a slap up meal. A very memorable event.

Funny you should mention Suggy. When just a few Ks from Lidl/Carlos yesterday, bimberling along minding our own business, a Brit van comes flying past tooting his horn, I lent forward to see who it was at the same time as Rosie did! I am sure that was Suggy I said! Low and behold who do we then see, when we are being a right pair of numptys by parking at Carlos's and then having to push two Lidl shopping trolleys full to the brim across the roads to the motorhome! Rosie was laughing her head off. Lovely to see you both again @SUGGY it's a shame you cannot make Maroc this year.

Sorry to hear about that Terry, the cause of you being moved onto the campsite is more likely down to the young campers who turned up a day before we left and set up next to there vans, cooking and washing. We had been warned that it was parking only and any camping would result in being asked to be moved on. Pity, as it's a nice little relaxing place and watching the sun go down from the restaurant tables is a joy. Incidently, the road into Tifnit is much shorter and flat. The parking is fine too.
We will catch up with you later as we will be heading south from here.

I plan to get at least to Tan Tan and have an open mind about going further south. Certainly, the good weather at the moment is along the coast line and we will continue to explore it and head south until the end of the month, maybe even longer if everything is right. I have read going further south than Tan Tan is just more of the same but will know a little more by the time we get there. Keep me up to date with your movements (LOL) as you may overtake me in the next few days aND we may have the oppertunity to meet up on the way down.

We are heading down to Morocco from Portugal, what is the price of diesel over there?

We ve stayed on the camping at Imsuoane before, thought it was OK, Owner is a bit of a grumy old git but it was quite a nice situation and nice and peaceful.

We loved the fishing port, for those who havent been there its very active with an auction and then restaurants serving the fish. We ate in probably the best situated one looking over the port with the freshest fish ever for a few quid.

I would definitely take the southern access road, the views alone are worth it IMHO, but OK it is a bit of a climb back up.

We re at Oualidia. It is rammed with French, much busier than last time. They clearly havent heard that they re not coming to Maroc.

.

I don't need any work doing Terry (which is a first!) we are just going to park at the school so we can visit the grand souk and a couple of specific shops.
If we bump into some of the others we can show them a local restaurant wher for 25Dh each you can eat really well (starter and main) and take your own booze. Especially good if you enjoy roast chicken.

Now at Tifnit and have the deck chairs out on top car park. We will be here for the rest of the day then back to the campsite before moving on tomorrow. What a stunning little place, great to walk through village and chat with locals. Fish restaurants here too. A Few pictures.
