Morocco 2016

Beutiful morning here, going to explore town and enjoy the day. Spoke to chap in first bar about emptying casette and he said ok but not convinced he understood what I was saying. It will be solved.
Watched a local woman pay a camel owner to collect camel piss (yes, piss!) In a plastic drinking bottle and she was into her second bottle when I left. Now what on earth is that all about!
Quite a lot have left this morning but still around D 30 odd vans parked here.

Phil if y0u drive to the next roundabout (south with the sea on your right) there is a campsite just off the roundabout. Im sure they'll let you dump your cassette, drink camel piss and nibble on camel toe - all for a few dirhams I might add.

Also if you go straight across from the roundabout near where you are pitched, there is a Carrefour (with a drinks dept behind closed doors). There is also an off licence in the town but you'd have to ask for directions. They sell the very palatable Touareg wines.

Had a smashing day to day and suffered a ltitle with the heat and miday sun, well into mid 20's and possibly beyound. Met a Brit who was living here and told me you can fly in from Luton for 20 quid and rent a one bedroom flat for 180 quid a month.
Beer at restaurants for as little as 20 Dh. Spent the afternoon exploring the port area, good history and big fishing fleet with tons of fresh fish for sale, will be down there in the morning for some fresh fish for our tea tomorrow.
Chap turned up in van who was touring on his own, originally from leeds, said he had been advised to go to Tafroute for the wild camping. I brought him up to date on that and said I would help him plan his trip tomorrow as all he has is a phone, no maps and no sat Nav ?

Met an intestine Frenchman this morning who I think must have family in the Wirral! Came over with no map and not much of an idea where to go, so got my map out and spent 20 minutes advising him where to go and what to see. A decent bloke.

Noted lol, Oh the joys of being in Marocco :):)(y)

Phil, more cracking photos. You've got an eye for it.

Mini-group (+1*) all parked up outside Carlos' office at Los Barrios, Algeciras. Everything almost ready for us when we arrived (I've been keeping him updated and it was definitely worth it), just some checking. Agreed rate of €200 per unit (should have waited a couple of days Phil :giggle:) Bottle of wine and slab of cake too. One of the gang has a motorbike on the back of his van, Carlos got him sorted. Plus we've even managed to find third party insurance for tgee - it's a bit more than €20 though; MAD1000 (£65) for 1 month, MAD1950 (£130) for 3 months, all third party only of course. Apparently you buy it at an office by the Bureaux de Change just after customs/immigration. Will report back.

Can confirm new parking arrangements at Carlos' mentioned by Horshamjack - it appears to be the overspill car park for Carrefour and as I write there are 56 vans (and 1 caravan) present with room for maybe 20 more. Mix of German and French, couple of Dutch and a dozen Brits.

11.30 ferry tomorrow morning then down to Asilah for first night, internet and acclimatisation.

* met another Brit on their way to Morocco - signed them up and they've joined our party. Have handed out quite a few cards over the last few days, hope they join up too.

Defo with the Camel piss Ken, not sure about nibbling on camel toe though, Phil would probably get the hump instead:LOL: and get arrested, very good Moroccan mat shop in the town as well, the chilli soaked olives are a must too!

We crossed yesterday using Tarifa Tanger Town again.

very nice boat, pretty similar to the cats they use at Holyhead, checkin 12noon, sailed at 1pm ( sat down with passports done at 2.15pm off boat at 2pm out of port by 2.45, into camping miramonte by 3pm ( bit of a dump but needed to get internet sorted out for business, even though I had to buy a package with dongle the whole thing only cost 2o euros for 1 month unlimited.

Got back to camper stuck the sim in the 3 mifi and away to go.

Hope all the other travellers have troublefree entries and good trips, might see some of you along the way. No funster sticker but the van is pretty identifiable ( see avatar) please give us a wave/say hello if you see us.

Note: only issue with Tarifa boat is height, the inner bits are only 2.8m so if your above that hang back and go in after the cars.

Jon & Sue

Ps All the import at Tangers Town was done by the officials, no sign of the 'give us a bung' squad.

Forgot to say

carlos will do Tarifa Tanger Ville for the same price as Tanger med which is 220 euros open for anyone not in a group.

And the camel toe Phil!

Just travelled the R105 Agadir to Tafraoute. Avoid it if you can. There are major roadworks happening along 40km section between Ait Baha and Tioulit and there is more gravel and holes than Tarmac sections. Maybe we missed a deviation and there was an alternative route posted but we saw no other traffic and just some startled road workers. Just putting the van back together now!

That was always a shit road at the best of times, even shittier going back to Agadir cos the wifes seat is next to the precipice for about 50km. The best way in to Tafraoute IMO is from Tiznit. Bet its a bit bloody cold up there this early. They say you don't want to arrive in Tafraoute is around the Almond Festival in February. Those who were there last year a bit earlier can vouch for that. Stay closer to the sea till mid Feb. (y)

Spot on Ken. (Me Ole fruit pastel). We went there last year when you got us all evicted from Tafroute and we found it to be very cold once the sun went down and were scraping ice off the windows first thing in the morning. It did warm up and by second week in Feb was great.

Great news, is the wild aping north or south of the town ! Last year there was one main body just south of the town ( 10 minute walk) and another small group a little further south before Banana viliage.
Are thy building that big hotel yet ?

This is our third time in Tafraoute at this time of year and it's always been very warm during the day. Mind you we weren't here last year so can't comment on the temperatures then.

Just talking with @TerryL and we are likely to be in Tafroute around the last week in January if anyone wants to meet up for Beer O'clock. It would be good to meet up with more of the brits on tour. We are in Assilah tonight and have a group of 8. Making our way to Dar Bouazza tomorrow and then further down the coast over the coming days.

Has anyone got any co-ords of anyway that e can wild camp / Gardian Park around Taghazout?

Thanks

Colin

Do any funsters ever go down to Dakhla or even Tantan?
I'm planning on heading down that way soonish. Depending on how much heat we need and get. I'll post updates on roads and places we stop at to inform others.
Safe Travels.

Well! one observation I have made since arriving in Maroc is that the French are here in great numbers. Even have Brits flying in for short breaks and others flying in and overwintering here. Looking back at all those members who posted negative remarks about Moroc and advising Funsters not to go appears to have been wide of the mark.....very wide of the mark!
Catch up with some of you later, of to the Medina with Mena so she can spend some of my money.
Safe Travels.

We are planning to get down that way this year. Even thinking about going as far as Layoune
We went down to Layounne last year Mike, not much there to be honest, shame there isn't a campsite in Layounne itself, theres an aire about 10k outside and a dilapidated campsite was no vans on it?, the road down from Tan Tan hugs the coast and is fantastic, plenty of camels wandering around Tarfaya wind farms area, but you have to drive the same way back which is a negative. on a plus diesel was 43p a ltr in Layounne
