Caught the bus to Legzira this morning. Strolled along the beach and took photos then returned to the village for lunch consisting of Moroccan salad, Calamari and a couple of rather 'snotty' omelettes. They tasted ok but really needed to have seen a few more minutes in the pan

Aaaaghhh lookout! a Frenchie? Just about to go out for lunch when a French reg van shuffled his way into a spot across from us. Turned out to be a Brit couple who live in France (welcome to the forum if you're reading this). That's ok then.Phew!!!

Lovely lunch at the restaurant in the square - he invited us back for free tea or coffee tomorrow. Whilst chatting he mentioned that it was mainly Germans who come here, then Dutch then British. He said the French have stopped coming, hasn't seen any for a while.

Brit couple told us that the road to Zagora is okay, just occasional problem, however north to Ouzazate, which is sort of our next destination (for the cinema museum - lotta films been made out here) was very poor but no current info. Anybody got any updates? It's supposed to be a scenic route, well it's edged in green on our map.

road Form Zguid to Zagora the short way new road washed out. Replaced by 20 odd clicks of piste on and off. From Zagora to Owasarte fine. The back road from Aig Ben Haddo to Telouet is passable with care (one nasty ford and one bridge at 30degs!) get a snow forecast first for the top end after Telouet though. Sorry about spellings hope you understand.

Were did you get that info as there's a Brit couple here at Tafraout who did that route 2 days ago who said except for last few k going into Form Zguid it's as wide and as good a road he'd been on in Marroc ???

Look on the map. There are two roads. One direct (shown on our 2014 Michelin map as piste) but we were assured had been tarmaceced and was shown as such on the ferry map as such. The old route takes a more sercuitious route to the north and has been tarmaced for many years.

As to where I got the info? From first hand experience. I travelled it 4 weeks ago. There were some repairs going on but it was going to take months by the look of it.

Spectacular route and passable with the diversions. Higly recommended but as I said bargain for 20 clicks or more at sub 20 mph if you are in an ordinary Camping Car

Thanks Glandwr yep double checked on the mapthat's the one the direct route, to quote Bob "it's a 80mph road"

We tried that road last year from Zagora towards Foum and turned back as the road was dirt piste. It wasn't TOO bad but there seemed a lot of it. We'd had a bad 45km on piste into Zagora on the N12 from the Merzouga direction a few days previously and had no desire to repeat the exercise.
The road North from Ouarzazate all the way to Marrakesh is good including the Tiz'N Tichka pass. There was a lot of snow on the high bit the last week in January but the road itself was clear. No washed out oueds and no roadworks.

Double check that they did not travel via Agdz. If not I'd appriciate an update once you have travelled the direct route.

Thanks Dick

Moving up to Mazouga next week from Tafroute and would appreciate any up to date knowledge on best route. Considering Tafroute - Ingherm -(new road) to Tata, then stay on N12 all way to Mazouga via Zagora.

Unless it's been surfaced in the last year, the first 45km of the N12 East from Zagora is piste and you max speed is about30kph unless you want to shake all the fillings out of your teeth and empty the contents of your cupboards all over the van floor.

Thanks Mike, I do recall you telling me about this section yesterday and I thought I would try and get an update on present condition. Hopefully, someone will be along shortly who has recently travelled that section and can advise accordingly.

Just spoken to 'Bob' who used the N12 4 days ago from Mazouga through Zagora and onto Tafroute and say's road is fine.

Guess who we've just spent a pleasant beer o clock with?

It was very windy late afternoon about 4.30 - 5ish for a couple of hours, too cold to sit out tonight for beer o'clock, but it's been wall to wall sunshine up until this, temp up to 34°. Need to start heading Northish so leaving Tafraoute and heading off towards Tallouine tomorrow, hope to catch up soon, have loved travelling with you and Lynda (and Suggy and Rosie of course) thanks for leading the way, will get my baggies ready for SSS weekend!

Thought I would put a picture up to show the size of the wild camping area at Tafroute. As you can see it is massive and can accommodate hundreds of motor-homes. Also a picture of some cacti along Darren's Pass, will be flowering soon, I think! (uploading in reverse order LOL)

We will be leaving here in a few days and will post more photo's as we continue our journey.

Changing the subject slightly. I have a tele maroc dongle from a couple of years ago.Can I recharge the SIM card online before we leave Spain or do I have to go to a shop in Marocco and are they open on a Sunday.

Funny you should mention that, we were discussing that the other day and think the answer is yes. We note the expiry date on recharge cards are 2021 so assume we can purchase a couple on the way out and use to recharge our data sim card next time we enter Moroc. Saves a trip to Ashilla.
Not sure you can do it from Spain though.
