Morocco 2015

How many people can claim that ! You'll dine out for years on that tale.

Is that a full respray ? As a matter of interest how much ?

I will let you know when we are finished Brain, between Colin and Mustapha about a million things have been added to the list since we've been here.

We came in for a repair on the radiator, which turned into needing a new one, needed a proper job doing on an emergency roof leak repair that we did in the UK and a head light adjuster repair and a front bumper repair, following our little incident with the fog light igniting the bumper!

As far as I have kept track of it we have ended up with all of those things plus- total front respray, all the side skirts and both front and back bumpers resprayed. New air filter and new front fog lights, finally we had the air conditioner condenser repaired. Oh and I nearly forgot, replacing the little grommets for the pot stands on the smev hob. The total bill will be approx 9,000 MAD (£615) of which just about half of that was for the new radiator.

Big smile time, it's almost worth something going wrong at that price.

When you get to Tafroute one sight you'll see is vans being resprayed on the street.

Hope you've got pennies left for essential supplies Sandra & Colin. However, if you haven't, don't worry about our order.

Wow based on those prices, I'll be taking our van to morocco for our next service..

As long as you have patients and accept that nothing happens quickly, the hospitality is great and nothing is to much trouble. We have done our laundry in Mustafa's machine, hung it out in his garden, picked lemons from his trees for our G&T's. There was talk that he is taking us to do the booze run too but I felt a bit embarrassed about that so will not remind him.

Hope you've got pennies left for essential supplies Sandra & Colin. However, if you haven't, don't worry about our order.

We still have enough pennies for the essentials Ken, never fear. But if anyone wants any odd jobs doing when we get to Tafaroute our price is 100 dirhams an hour!

Terry , Try the Kefta tagine at the municipal pool restaraunt , it still rates the best we have eaten in morocco ,
Tata is a bit strange to start with but wander across the road past the bread shop and down the alley onto a lovely square with cafes etc ,
you need to do a bit of exploring to find the best areas , there is a long street of market / souke if you walk into the town to the waterfall and turn left , also loads of mechanic streets , give Tata a chance to grow on you , we spent about 4 days there last time , we thought that the swimming pool area is a lot better than the campsite ,

Graham, thanks you were right. We've had a good look round and spent a fortune in the souk whilst shopping "for essential supplies". Think it may have been an anti-climax to the fantastic drive across.

However about half an hour ago "Desert Detours Italia" turned up; 12 Italians travelling in convoy (and we're sure we've seen the guy who runs DD too in a 4x4). They're double parked, under the arches and at least 7 are running off one electricity cable!

Ah well, there goes the neighborhood again!

Ah well, there goes the neighborhood again!

I knew you would change your mind I felt same last year
If you walk down towards fountain there is a doughnut shop he does the best. Egg doughnuts I have ever had
Good place to buy a washing machine @canopus :imoutahere:

Yesterday turned into one of those days!
Leave Mustafa's about 3:30 pm.
Get the van parked right outside Carrefour.
3 trips into the supermarket later, we have all the food and essentials we and everyone else wanted.
Just as we are about to move (reverse out) there is a prang behind us and are trapped while the world and his wife joins in the debate on who hit who.
It's getting a bit late by now so the camping spot of choice is the Marjane car park. Not many vans there but got we got a cooked chicken for dinner and was just about to serve it up when there's a knock at the door, you cannot stay here, move now says the man in a uniform waving a walkie talkie about. We argue but get nowhere.
Drive around a bit trying to find somewhere else, nothing.
It's dark by now but we bite the bullet and drive in the the dark to Camping Takat 30k away. Saturday night in Agadir must be party time, the streets are rammed with locals coming and going using all their crazy forms of transport, overloaded, barely working, Fiddlesticksing suicidal petite taxis dodging around cutting in.........grrrrrrr during all this our newly fixed lights pack up (indicators) and by now we are nearly at each other's throats, as you do!

Eventually get out of the built up area and now Sues words of cyclists and walkers in the pitch black come back to haunt me, our headligh s are just as bad as they were before. We are heading for camping Takat but Maps Me decides we should take a short cut down a dirt road, we trust it for a couple of K, curse and turn around back to the N1. Our headlights are just as bad as before they were worked on and stress levels are sky high at this point.

Anyway I am rambling somewhat, we get to the campsite but the gates are shut, walk around a bit but cannot see a way of getting in. We decide to park up for the night along the campsite wall. Then my brain cell revived and I went over to try the gate which of course wasn't locked. At the same time and nice French man came over and invited us in. Find a pitch and sort the paperwork out in the morning says he. Next thing, reheat the meal that was so rudly interrupted at Marjane only to find that the pan stand grommets fitted to the hob promptly melt and one catches fire!!

We are by now diving into one of the newly purchased bottles of wine with gusto.

So that was Saturday for us! Oh and no nothing for Valantines either.

A "like" seems so inappropriate, but as Stan says "that's Morocco for you!"
Hope to see you later today

Foum-Zguid to Zagora update
Speaking to Bob who pulled on here last night came from Zagora says the N12 except for the last few K into Foum-Zguid is as good and as wide as any road in Marroc or as he put it a 80mph road,

Driving into the guardian site at Tafraout the other day, moved out of the way of a big lorry leaving, didn't see abig Rock and shattered my front fender, shit happens so didn't get to bothered, , within 5 mins guys says do you want that fixed and makes a phone call 50 mins later another guy turns up and gives me a price of 450 dirhams to fix it, another guy turns up and says why not have the whole job sprayed, 750 dirhams so I says ok carry on thinking the whole job was going to cost 1150 dirhams (after a haggle of course) go to town the next day whole job done upon return guy turns up and charges me 750 total. Turns out they were brothers and the 750 was the total price. Fantastic job for about £55.... Result, there ain't much you can't get fixed in Tafraout, the new repair centre for mhf Morocco maybe??

Us and Cherrypirate now safely ensconced at Camping Khaima Parc in Foum Zguid, a lovely little site amongst the palm trees - it's a proper oasis. Hookup (so lotsa washing getting done), hot showers, spotless loos, swimming pool (half full of sand actually!) and best of all NO FRENCH. 2 Dutch, 2 German and 4 Brits! Temperature recorded as 31 deg under the awning.

Desert Detours Italia left Tata at 7.30am with no noise - only heard them 'cos I was up.

We stayed there last year , had my birthday bash at the little cafe / restaraunt in the square it has a roof terrace with great views of the mountains and sunset ,

Free wifi but only at the reception terrace

I believe the 31c , it was very hot there last year ,

The locals were really friendly , there is a good cobler on the right about half way to the square , he repaired my trainers and they are still going strong ..

Another good day yesterday. We had lunch with Darren and Lynn, at a nice hotel they found on the edge of town. I though! well when in Rome and ordered a goat Tagine. Boy, can these Moroccans cook, another stunning dish. Went back for beer/wine o'clock to find Colin and Sandra had returned to the nest and so we settled down to some great music from Mile and Simon and partied until it got dark. What a great group of people.

What a lovely Funster welcome we had yesterday at Tafaroute. Serenaded back into the fold by the group singing Welcome Home (Peters & Lee) as we stepped out the van.
Fantastic location, cannot believe how beautiful it is here and very very warm!

It was your own fortitude and determination that got you here, it was lovely to finally meet you.
