We had a cracking night last night in the hotel restaurant.
Sitting outside the van yesterday afternoon and the hotel manager wanders over and invites us to dinner (we've been here so long now we are almost family LOL).
When we got there the restaurant was rammed with a big tour group from Brazil plus a few odd Spanish.
After an excellent meal, the staff got the drums out and started their usual gig - good, but we've seen it a few times now.
When they took a break the Brazilians asked if they could have ago and boy, coul they play the drums! And their girls were doing a pretty good impression of the Rio Carnival albeit they were fully clothed.
Samba, samba, samba!

For those that are thinking of going to Tafraoute I have had a local hotel (Hotel Salama) confirm that the Almond Blossom Festival us on 6-7th March.

Broken Link Removed and I are at Camping Tazerzite which is 6km south of Tiznit on the N1

Co-ords
N29° 38' 500", W9°43'300"

Some places still left although the french are continuing to arrive. We were here last year when it had just opened. Facilities excellent.

Cherrypirate and us are settled in at Camping Tazerzite, 6km south of Tiznit on N1.

Well laid out roomy pitches, very modern and clean - apparently only been open just over year. Only half full, mainly French (naturally). Supposed to be a cafe/restaurant but haven't sussed that out yet. 85MAD plus 20MAD for electricity.
It's quite a bit cooler than Tag, hazy sunshine. We'll probably stay here a few days before heading to Tafraoute.

After our early (well 8.30) breakout, Marjane at Agadir was heaving - hadn't realised there is an aire just across the road.

Thoughts on the future of Tag; we appreciate what others have said about back to normal after the Kings visit (if that really is the reason) but a fence has gone up round the site since we arrived leaving just a small entrance. Would love to think I'm wrong but I believe that we're probably the last motorhomers at the Taghazoute Beach we've all come to love (even with the French!).

Now set up at Tafroute. Police told us we had to move off this morning, so that made it official. Hoped to move down to the next campsite but as we got near the entrance the army and police were there dire ting motorhomes off there too. HAve since been told nothing to do with King but injunction ion served to clear campsites to enable development work to commence. (Sounds like this could be the end of camping at Taghazout.
Anyway, the blossom is out down here and some of the views are stunning. We have just set up and will not do any more today but will provide updates tomorrow. What I can tell you is there are not too many motorhomes here maybe 50_80 with room for hundreds more. Told by Dutch couple that you have to use one of the campsites to empty cassette (small charge) and they went in every 4 days to fill up with water. They have not seen bowser since they have been here. Distance to campsite looks like a ten minute walk so that's not an issue for us. I'm told it's 74 Dh a night at the campsite. Not sure what the charge is here by the university but it looks a fine spot, flat and level and on edge of town. We will check that out tomorrow.

other than where the old campsite used to be most of tagga end was piled high with soil a few years ago . we thought it was the end then . the fishermans cottages got knocked down . a hotel close to the village etc . the contractors were starting a build . next year the king had payed for it all to be flattened . so camping started again .
who knows .
at one time you could park over by the palce other side of bannana village . also quite close to the kings palace in agadir .
but enjoy yourselves .
i do miss it . might get a trip in one year.

Hi,
Can you still stop at The Kasbah Hotel Tombouctu, Merzouga with a M/H as there's no mention of the facilities on their website.

Were at still at 'Tazka Camping' much cooler here today than the last three days, met a Dutchman and his English wife at the weekly market in Tafraout town, they have been coming here for many years, he was visibly quite upset and 'went off on one' about how the French were dumping their waste and smellies at the wild camping areas of the Palmeries where they had camped....... and I'm beginning to think that the Moroccan authorities have had enough of the French attitude and closing off the dirt plains as fast as they can hence the dilemma at Taghazoute, another day, another era......were doing a trip down to Gorges d' Ait-Mansour tomorrow then moving on taking the 'Hell Drivers' 105 route:oops::cool:

Have been watching how the "TAG" saga has been developing over the last 24hrs. Must admit we did think there had been a major clearance judging by the number of (mainly) French MH that turned up here at Sidi Wassay earlier today. Looks like our stop off at Tag is off the cards as we move North this year.

@ mentaliss - I think you have hit the nail on the head. We stayed on the Palmeries at Tafraoute for two nights last month, moved onto a campsite for a night, dropped waste, filled water and then moved back onto the Palmeries for another few nights before moving on. Still unsure where others who were staying were dropping their waste. Longer term, would reckon that once the University adjacent to the "guardian parking" has opened, days for MH there parking will be numbered.

there used to be a nice drinking water well in the palmeries .
and another one on otherside of road about 600yds from the campsite.
the one on the campsite side got spoilt a few years ago with rubbish thrown in it .

They aint spoiling it here Tel cos we got here before em. There is only one French in a massive Hymer with a garage full of water bottles who managed to get on the front. When we arrived we parked nose to the sea but then decided that the Tag Exodus would soon be descending so we all parked parallel to the sea. They don't like being beaten at their own game. Theres a couple of Dutch guys here we met at Tag but otherwise we are the majority.

Just had fresh caught Tuna for dinner which was landed mid morning. The fish were about 12" long and cost 10 dirhams which is about 80p. Pan fried in oil they were absolutely yummy.

Hi,
With reference to the CIN number. I have one already but now have a new passport. Will they transfer the same number from the old passport or issue me with a new number. I will take my old passport just in case.

Visited nearby campsite and told no problem to empty cassette. Twenty DH a go. Seen one guy with quad bike taking cassette to campsite so guess that is how it works here. I have met a Dutch guy here on site who went on a bit about the French emptying cassette's anywhere and was of the opinion that this was why Tag was closed. I asked him how it worked here and he said that's a bit of a problem and said he thought some were using an area near the rocks and pointed in the direction behind the university. I went for a bit of a walk about to night,in that direction and my nose did not make a connection so I guess there using the campsite. Bowser came round and apparently comes most days. Guardian came round and asked for 10 DH. Moon has come up over top of mountains and the Vista is stunning. I can already see why this place is so popular. Will post some pictures tomorrow.

New passport = new cin..
it was in 2014 and i am sure the 2015 lot will confirm...

Left Atlantica Park this morning after 5 relaxing days bit like BillyButlins tbh. We are now at Camping Terre d'Ocean N30* 555'50 W09*73'91
A few Ethiopian refugees from Tag pulled in later !! Armytwowheels ;) also got talking to Chris & Carol "Foggy" LockMout sent their regards to Graham n Rosie and said hope to catch up with you guys..
Got speaking to a German chap next door and he said that by the 14th Feb there would be no more parking at Tag and all the dirt sites would be vacated of vans? end of an era :(

I haven't been down to the Tomboctou this year. It was certainly OK last year although I thought the area where the vans are parked is a bit of a dustbowl. The hotel is certainly nice though.
we are parked at Auberge du Sud about 9km North of Merzouga on a good piste road.
We love it here and we've been the only van here for a week.

Good level parking on hard packed sand.
no EHU, water tap available. empty cassette in the toilet by the swimming pool.
Dh70/night.
very good restaurant at reasonable prices and super friendly staff. they get us fresh bread and fruit & veg when we need it as it saves us making the drive into Merzouga for supplies.

Regarding my original thoughts about the MH clearance of the Tag' dirt plains, this I suspect may well become a concern to many people who prefer to use bonafida camp sites as it appears the the 'French refugees' appear to be migrating south in their droves:cool:
