Morocco 2015

Stayed at Sanlucar de Barrameda on our way from Castro Marim in Portugal Its, a nice Aire 5mins from shopping centre on the beach and free(y)

@Armytwowheels - how are you managing? I know the garage isn't doing anything until tomorrow but got any more thoughts? Someone has suggested it might be something as simple as the hoses have come off the turbo which is not uncommon on Mercs. You might be able to see if you can get underneath.

We're thinking of you and hope you get it sorted without too much trauma.(y)
Colin had a good look underneath yesterday and says the hose is still all good, messed around with the wastegate but no improvement.

On a brighter note our enforced rest has give him time to fit the 2nd leisure battery & the 1000w inverter we have been carrying around since last June!! And I got the laundry done.

We should have more info tomorrow.

Sandra any more on your Blog, looking forward to it.

Appreciate that we are about 2 weeks earlier in visiting Morocco this year than last year but, we are very surprised by the lack of MH we have seen either on the road, in campsites or guardian parking (possibly no more than 20 in the past week), since leaving Asilah. We have stayed on a couple of sites where we have been the only MH. Last night was a perfect example at Tinerhir (Gorges du Todra), just us and 2 4WD .

Now at a very overcast Ouarzazate, we are 1 of 6 MH (2 F, 2 NL, 1 D and 1 GB (us)). Is this normal for this early in the year or is it suspected that the normal visiting MH's are staying away?

Plan is to stay here tomorrow and then move westwards on Tuesday. Would be interested to to know how full, or not (as the case maybe), the campsites and guardian parking areas along the coast are!

Well it's not all bad news then!:D

We (Canopus & Dabhand) rendezvoused with Dave (Busman) last night here on the aire at Sanlucar de Barrameda. One or two other Brits here who are touring Spain/Portugal.

Had a few drinks and compared notes. Taking dogs on beach this morning, then having a communal brunch mid morning before doing a bit of housekeeping. The outside of the van resembles a dustbin wagon - absolutely filthy, so will be giving it a right good dobi.

Although we did get told off by some Spaniards for "camping" on an aire, ie setting up table and chairs etc. carried on till we had had our repast then dutifully put everything away, luckily we didn't get arrested by the "Aire" Police.

Good to see you cooking the Moroccan way so you will be ready to create some great dishes when you get there. Safe travels and enjoy yourselves.

It looks like we will not make it in time for the group crossing on the 15th although we should no for sure later this afternoon. The van has gone into the workshop now and already they have found problems with the timing belt (on 6,00k old). It's not broken but the thing is not right and other stuff I don't understand.

I know it's on here somewhere but cannot find it - can someone please re post with details of where we go once we leave the port to get a sim for our mifi please. I will need to start making notes as our internet connections are so random.

We'll keep fingers crossed but if you can't join us you already know about getting discounted tickets at Carlos. If you've downloaded the file from Resources you'll also be able to follow the procedure. Any questions ask away.

Once across take the A4 - refuel if necessary - and it's 65dirhams toll. Join A1. At Asilah head for the guardienne camping at the north end; if it's full there is (was) another at the Port, closer in to the town same road. On the way in you will pass Maroc Telecom on Avenue Khalid ibn Oualid on the right, can't miss it, it's got two radio towers above it.

Co-ords for you:
Carlos (Voyages Normandie) at Algeciras N 36 10'45" W5 26'28"
Maroc Telecom Asilah N35.467671 W6.030260 (might be slightly out but it's right road)
Guardian camping Asilah N35.473549 W6.027993

Checkout other postings on what to actually get internet-wise.

Hi TerryL
We have had to abort our trip to Morocco. Circumstances have happened... Tina was ill, but I was hoping that all would be OK for the trip. Sadly that is not the case and we will not be able to join you.
We are still keen to do the trip, but are not prepared to take the risk when Tina is not in perfect health.
Good Luck and enjoy the adventure.
Dave

Sorry to hear that Tina is unwell, hope she recovers soon and you can have another try. If you need any help you of course only have to ask.

Good wishes from us all.

TerryL

We went to souri kadema last week after essaouria . It is even more run down than last year . Sea front covered in sand . Just had a coffee and came ti Tagazoute . Dont use the white road short cut to the N1 . It is 10 miles of washed away roads and gulleys ...
sidi kouki is worth a look. very basic campsites . The bread was delivered by donkey . With a few places selling fish .

Sidi Kiouki . Last year we saw wild tortoise crossing the road and a biker in the bar said he had seen what he thought was a broken cambelt on the road that turned out to be a Cobra ...
We stayed at the campsite with the water barrel..in the vicarious book. Lol

Guess what we did today ...
Then we went to Dazlins fir a wonderfull BBQ . Thanks a lot both . great afternoon and evening sundowners...

Circus trucks arriving through the night, two puppies in the bin this morning, (alive) Spaniards/gypsies!!! Ken spoke to the Circus guy
" This is Spain mate, not England" was effectively his answer. Different culture or what!

Really? How did the donkey know what bread you wanted and how did he take the money?

He rembered us from last year ....

Actually we recognised him . he was a miserable donkey. he always had a long face ....... Lol
