Morocco 2015

I'm sure the pictures are very nice Ken!

They are Simon but MHF does not handle copy & paste too well. Text is no problem.

Are you using an iPad, cos there's a bit of an issue with current iOS at the mo with pasting, there's a thread on here somewhere about it Ken

Latest news from Sue & Dave. They have left TanTan Plage and are now at Taghazoute Beach. Dave pictured below on a 'Docker'.

Happy New Year Everyone,

Just a quick catch up, we had a great Christmas in El Ouatia, left there on the 28th and came straight here to Taghazoute, there were still signs of the flood damage along the way, but in the main things are back to normal.

We had a great New Years Eve, and are having FUN in the sun.

Catch up again soon

Sue and Dave

Dave in Tan Tan, he wants one of these, Christmas Eve Party, Presents from the French, Mr & Mrs Christmas, some of the flood damage in the mountains, and on the flat road, and even here in Taghazoute.

Did sue n dave say how busy tagazoute is , there were 50 vans here last night but only about 15 now , they must be going somewhere ....

there are a lot of french about but i dont think as many as last year , they maybe setting off from france after the new year , so not here yet ,

Looking at their pics they may not be on the same bit we were on Graham. They are in a big blue RV Reg V740 *** with a box trailer behind for their quad. Dave is about 6ft odd with a shaved head and a goatee beard. Tell em you know me and Lynda.

can't really tell from their pics if its busy or not.

Thanks Jock
Yes I read that too. Probably a one-off.
Reading between the lines of subsequent posts it appears the MH owner paid some chancer and then refused to pay the genuine guardian.
As the OP admitted, in hindsight, it wasn't worth arguing about for the sake of 20p.

For the newbie's here, this is worrying don't think it has been mentioned before in this Topic?
anyway, what is a Guardian and how do we recognise him/her, what's their purpose, if your viewing this Terry any advice please?

Point 1 - The area around the Souk in Agadir is chaotic. The town is a popular destination for package holidays and with that fact comes the incumbent baggage of chancers, touts, pickpockets and fly by nights. I would never drive into Agadir to visit the Souk. We took the bus and then walked. Looking after yourself is common sense. Don't flash wads of money and use your loaf.

Point 2 - Have felt far safer in Morocco than in places such as Tunisia or Egypt. This incident is, IMO, an isolated one off and should not fill new travellers to Morocco with trepidation.

Point 3 - Guardians are, in our experience like night watchmen, probably employed by the owners of the land on which you park your motorhome. They take a small amount of money, previously less than £1 per night, and patrol the area on which Motorhomes are parked say during the night. They provide wagons with tanks on which supply fresh water, and bread daily to the Motorhomers and are generally decent people.

Others will be along I am sure, but not some thing I would worry about, the Guardians in Morocco do a very good job, wether you are parking overnight or passing through a town and parking up. for want of a better word they are car park attendants mostly official some not, you pay them a few dirum and they look after your van while you are away, and they really do.
The Moroccan people are very friendly and helpful but they are also very poor so they make a living were they can.
Whatever you do don't go to Morocco thinking it's like Europe it's not it's Africa and every thing is different. In most cases don't expect hot showers or regular electric they don't have it in there homes, why should we expect it.
If you want to buy some fresh turkey there is usually one being chopped up on the stall and one standing at the side for his turn, the markets are amazing but when you park up always pay the guardian then relax.

These things make it different and very special.

He will make himself known dont worry . If its astreet guardien 2dh is the going rate overnight its usualy negotiable . STAN

Our trip across from Algeciras to Tangier Med this morning passed without incident and the passage through the port took no more than 15 mins from leaving the ferry to getting our TVIP stamped signed and passing under the customs barrier.

A word of warning though, we did stop at the currency exchange kiosks and got Dh 10.73 to €1, the guy counted out the notes and I saw that he double counted a Dh 200 note whilst stacking them. I took the cash and recounted it in front of him knowing full well it would be 200 short, I then recounted and he asked if there was a problem, I explained that it was Dh 200 short and passed the cash back to him he recounted twice and said he was sure he had counted correctly, made a big show of checking around on the floor and then realised that I had caught him out he added another Dh 200 to the pile :mask:. Must admit I did tell a little white lie to him and said that I used to work in a bank and that I did see him double count one of the notes  I made sure that that at no time did I leave his sight and made a show of recounting the notes in front of him. :giggler:

Another useful piece of info, despite that fact that the Maroc Telecom office is closed we were able to purchase a Dh100 top up card from a kiosk in Asilah, placed our Maroc Telecom sim card (from last year) into an unlocked mobile phone, sent a SMS to 555 with the top up code, received text back, sim card loaded, place sim card in Mifi, and we have internet access :)

Have crossed into France and now on our way south with Cherrypirate - who seems to have better internet access than me. Thanks Ken also for intercepting and answering on my behalf - there's a cold one (or three) in the fridge.....!

I've had another had to drop out due to personal circs so I've still got one booked slot if anyone wants it.

And for anyone following this thread and thinking of Morocco in the near future, please see the new thread I'm about to post re: discounted ferry fare.

See you all in the sunshine soon!

Damn it should have been there with you all, don't even have a partner anymore, can it get better than this :(

***** NEW YEAR

Cheers Terry for sorting out the deal for MHFunsters. I have membership cards from CC and WC and others etc. but don't have a MHFun card? although we have a few MHFun referral cards hopefully Carlos will except these as proof of membership when ourselves and Busman buy our tickets on the 7th to travel over on the 8th? Does everyone else have membership cards?

There are no membership cards with Fun. Its internet based and all you have is a membership number which you can find by clicking your name on the forum.

Terry make sure you let Colin park up first on any aires, car parks etc. He has a strange habit of running into the back of your van.:eek::eek:

I'll feel right at home then Ken:D:confused: Well maybe not the pickpocket bit, looking forward to watching them haggle with a Yorkshireman though!

I believe Moroccans are descended from an unholy coupling of a Bloke from Yorkshire and a woman of Scottish descent.
Hence their reluctance to replace anything but rather repair it over and over.
Their haggling skills are as incredible as you would expect.

Works on the iPad, just downloaded it, was going to download France and Spain as a back up...... Big files!

Have just downloaded it onto our i pod along with the Moroccan map, looks good, will certainly compliment our mapping. Have spent a second day at Asilah, small moroccan gas bottle replaced, Tagine with cous cous for lunch, now sat in MH enjoying a glass of chilled white after watching an amazing sunset, certainly better weather than when we first arrived last year.
