Morocco 2015

There is no proof even on AA and RAC check list it doesn't mention it
Even for Europe
If you get a pull with law and they ask for it you have it no hassle
Take or don't your choice

Bilimanjaro you seem determined that you don't want to take your MOT. That's your prerogative.
However consider this: you have been stopped by the Moroccan Police at a random checkpoint, you haven't been speeding and you haven't done anything else wrong. The officer asks for your documents including "contrôlée technique" ie MOT. You don't have it.
That'll be 700 dirhams he says.
You might try arguing the finer points of Moroccan Law and say that nowhere have you seen it written down that the MOT is needed.
I don't care he says, 700 Dirhams please (and remember these fellers are all armed). After 20 minutes of arguing the toss you might get it down to 200 Durhams (unless you have been a bit stroppy and he has got offended in which case he will dig his heels in).
Wouldn't it have been easier just to take the MOT even if it isn't strictly speaking required?
Why risk the hassle?

terry..
thanks for that..
my mate is a mot tester he can send one out to me,,no problem..
I just would like canopus to show me were it says you need to have it with you..

I don't give a flying fig if you take your MOT or not. We take ours and we've been stopped and asked for it in Maroc. End of.

Hope you don't get pulled in France without your MOT cos that will be another fine and the Gendarmes don't mess about either!!

I have been thru a lot of checkpoints in morocco.. and been stopped at quite a few..never have I been asked for the mot..because I never took it,,or in conversation with other bikers known any one else to have shown it..
I await the response from the person who has actually been fined for it..
after all there,s plenty of here who go..

Hi , i see from your post, you are talking motorbikes not motorhomes ...

i have been trying to insure my 125 scooter for morocco , carol nash said
£35 for green card plus £25 per week for morocco on top of the normall insurance , other quotes were £850 , I made enquires at motor bike tours in morocco and contacted the local maroc insurers they quote €80 / €90
per month ,
Where did you get your bike insured please ,
I have just put the LBN 2015 onto the
LBN web site and facebook if you were interested

Have never been fined in France for not carrying Contrôle Technique/MOT because they are always in the which ever vehicle we are in at the time of inspection.
It now seems you are talking about a motorbike, as their is no contrôle technique/mot for motorcycles in france (at the moment) then you wont be asked to provide one here.

Ive given up on taking the Scooter with me , it is cheeper to get a taxi or even hire a car ,,,
with having the Scooter with us for 3 months it is going to be silly money ,

CIN number

Just sorting out the paperwork and printing off the Police Checkpoint sheets when I realised I've renewed my passport.

Does anyone know if I continue to use the CIN issued last year or must I get a new one on the way into Tanger-Med? I'll carry the old passport with me but is the CIN tied to the passport or the person?

And then when filling out the entry document am I a first-time into Maroc or a returning visitor?

Terry ,
i have the same problem , i have left the space for the Police number clear and will take my old passport with me as i do not know if the Police number is for life ... but it will still need to be linked with my new passport number , Should be fun on the ferry :groan: with the immigration man .

Don't have an mot the van is only two months old!!

Roads continue to be good and the weather is getting better as we got here to Merzouga yesterday. Stayed the night at camping la tradition from the maroc book. Then having enjoyed a night right next to the dunes and fended off the 4x4 touts set off for the nearest recommendation. Tombuctu hotel. Looks fab, archway of camels at entrance and v nice inside but empty! Not wanting to spend the big day totally on our own we trotted up the road a bit further.
With the aid of a very helpful local we set up camp at Haven Auberge La Chance, or Last Chance as it was imaginatively nicknamed!
Joined the three german vans at the back of the Auberge with perfect views over the sahara. Hot showers, pool (not tried yet!) and offers of food in the restaurant or camel treks! What more could we want?
So here we stay for a bit of festive peace. Been for a bike ride to town, stocked up on 'mucky veg' Turkey & sprouts out of the freezer tomorrow and tagine all ready to cook tonight.
Welcome to Morocco

Had a reply from Campsite Parque Tropical near Estepona (Malaga) while I've been looking for an alternative to Bella Vista (per @CherryPirate ). Price looks very reasonable - €16.70 pn or €14.00 with ACSI. Looks okay on the ACSI website, anybody been there?

Hey Daz, what's that grey fluffy stuff in the sky?
That's not supposed to be there!

Been a bit overcast today, only managed about 24°. Was 17° at 4.30 but forecast a bitterly cold 13° for tonight and no hook up. But no more cloud due now 'til next tues.
Solar still keeping fridge going!

I have a question on phone sim cards ! What do you do for phone calls to the UK .(Skype!) I assume you can get a sim card for an unlocked phone which would use a local rate for local calls and a decent rate for calling the UK. We both have Toggle mobile sim cards, great for most of Europe but for calling the UK from Maroc it's
Making calls 1.84£/min

Local calls 1.43£/min

Receiving calls 0.96£/min

Send SMS 0.48£/SMS

Data 4.20£/MB

I will be buying a sim card for my MiFi in Asilah and we can use that for emails etc back home but would like the option of at least making cheap local call's in Maroc.

I note from your picture (Fantastic) you have 2 Solar panels! Surely this alone is insufficient to run a fridge ?

Ran fridge last year just turning it to 12v on sunny days between 10am & 4pm approx.
Just fitted votronic regulator with aes output and also tilted the panels so enough to run it some of the day on automatic switchover.
Will post pics of the project when I get timexroll:xroll:

Am I right in thinking you make a Skype to Skype call without video picture (We always have a picture on so we can see grandchildren and them us but assume this would use up data very quickly).
Also, while I'm on this post. I too have a Solar Pannel (125 W) plus regulator which automatically selects leisure or cab batteries for top up. I also have a AES fridge freeze (Big Dometic job). My understanding is if I select 12 V with the ignition off, no power goes to the fridge. It will only work on 12 V whyen the engine is running otherwise it's gas or electric.

Data SIM is about 100 dirhams (£7?) for a month unlimited data with Maroc Telecom. We used FaceTime frequently without any problems. 3G coverage in Morocco is generally excellent, the only place we had much of an issue was at Tagazhoute where 300 vans were all trying to share the network! Even then there were times of day when bandwidth was acceptable and it improved after the first week. Possibly due to somebody using Filmon or similar and hogging the network?

We skype with video. No data limit in maroc. Best mifi we have had. Better than uk, spain, france, portugal. Plus cheaper!

Re fridge.
I was told you can't run a fridge on 12v unless engine is running. When it stopped on gas last year due to maroc gas - butane sooting up chimney, I switched it over on the aes selector and it kept cold! I am informed the older models can do this (2007) but there is a lot of 'discussion' on the subject. Techno 100 has done it via a cbe homemade sensor. I am not that fluent with wires n stuff. But it works.

Cheers Guy's most appreciated. Kids will be able to see my ugly chops after all.
