Morocco 2015

I don't see how the Moroccan customs would keep track of the different requirements for each home country. They also don't care about insurance.
Their focus when you are passing through, is to ensure you have correctly completed the temporary importation forms, and aren't trying to buck the system..
above was a reply from tim cullis.. aka mr morocco..horizons unlimited..
so maybe the police were trying it on..bribes/etc..canopus the reason your mot thingy caught/threw me out, was I did morocco four years back on me motorbike, and I don't think I read anywere about having to take it ..v5 yes..main paperwork....maybe things change, not sure..
thanks for replies...
But for the sake of a copy I'll take some spares!:xgrin:

When i got stopped at a police check they wanted and checked everything, including driving licence , mot , green card , log book , import papers , camping fiche , pass ports ,
As previous said , make sure your wallet only has only few hundred dirhams just in case they fine you for something , tell them you have just fueled up / bin shopping ......

For the benefit of other Funsters following this thread - it's beginning to sound like a police state!:eek::eek:

These are only ISOLATED INCIDENTS that are posted just to provide info on what COULD happen - but as I'm sure they'll confirm, you'll probably never have to deal with them.:xThumb::xThumb::xThumb:

Literally thousands of motorhomes of all nations visit this friendly country every year; if there was a problem we'd know about it!

Terry

Be careful of groups of children standing in the road. They want you to stop to give them stuff.
I decided to drive very slowly and not stop, and they hit the side of my van, luckily just with their hands and no stones in them. This was on a 'main' road going inland.

It is very much a police state. Have you ever been anywhere else with so many checks going on ? Police, army all over the cities. Routine stops on all roads near a big town. Routine stops in town. That country is well tied down and for good reason if you look east.

Good use of speed cameras.

The look of hatred once or twice when locals saw us filming them. Can't blame them, I'm sure they believe we will be saying "look at these peasants on donkeys" when we get home. They don't know we mean it in a nice way. We've been stoned more than once when on the move but never any trouble on foot.

Late edit....

This was just a comment on it being a police state, for their own and our safety, MHs were jumped on for speeding and I got told off for not stopping at a big squiggle sign, that's fair enough.

I would not hesitate to return, it's an exciting country, that bit different but not too different. Lovely people apart from a few silly kids. And of course warm and cheap. 'er indoors is not so keen mainly the begging.

Correct we were never stopped once and I never saw a campervan stopped of any nationality
We took the advice we were given take it all plus copies just in case :xThumb:
Morocco is very much a police state in my opinion but they leave the tourists alone and when we ask for help from police such as directions always found them very polite and helpful
We had more trouble from bloody locals selling camel tours :xrofl:

Besides most of you are travling though Europe if police in France or Spain stop you what are they going to ask you to produce Morocco is no different to anywhere else

D . A . G 's Doom and Gloomers , Dont you just love em , :groan:

We have only been twice 6 weeks and 11 weeks , we love Morocco , cant wait to get back ....:cooler:

The moroccans are friendly and helpfull and 99% make you very welcome ,

Treat them with respect , their lives are very different to ours , if you are going to photgraph them ask first or be really discreet , Would you want people taking pictures of you ? .

Do not throw sweets , pens books etc out of your windows for the kids . it only makes parents keep kids off school to go begging along the road side , more importantly the van behind may run them over .

On a " light " er note ,
Make sure you have some Torches with you and spare batteries , you will need them -
For finding your MH in the evenings after sun downers :drink: ,

The Moroccans , we were told, like everyone that speaks English to them , The British , Germans , Belgiums , Netherlanders even Spanish , the hate the French . they treat the Moroccans like S---T.

Go and enjoy yourselves .... Funster Party Times are a coming

Merzouga sites

We did not get this far east earlier on in the year.
I know there were a couple of sites recommended and a search brings nowt from fun.
I have details of Auberge camping la tradition and soleil bleu but not coords for the latter.
We want a good spot as spending a couple of weeks in the warm. What was your fave and do you have the coords please.
Getting there tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

We stayed here... A small hotel... VERY friendly.. We parked in their small car park for silly money. 40dh / 4 euro seems to come to mind..
They ran cables out the window for electric, gave us the use of a hotel room when we wanted a shower..
Never pestered us at all and we had a great party evening with a nice meal...Back in February they were starting to build a small area on the side ready to take campers... Worth a look if you can find it..

Pitched up at camping source bleu de meski yesterday.
Another easy couple of hours from Midelt.
Roads seem to be getting better! Good surfaces down N13 & N10.
Also been informed a new road is open from here to Merzouga and a new road west is now open. I think this is the one from Rissani to Ouarzazate but will confirm.

Love that one. First time we got a conducted tour of the abandoned kasbah, amazing, they just upped and left it, don't know why.

Not sure who the D A G post is aimed at !!! It was certainly not my intention to suggest that this is a country not to visit !!!

I believe that our MH was stoned because we did not throw goodies out of the window, our visit to the local Gendarmes was conducted very efficiently, the officer that dealt with us just wanted to make sure that all of his paperwork was completed correctly, hence the need to see all of our paperwork. Incidentally the officer spoke perfect English and had attended a NATO course in Prauge with someone who I used to serve with, so despite the damage all was conducted in quite a convivial atmosphere.

As an aside we were not put off by this incident and will be at Algeciras on either the 1st or 2nd of Jan waiting to visit again.

MOT's not required. Just V5 registration document and the D16ter you can complete online. And your passport of course.

As Tim says, you don't need insurance to get through the border. You shouldn't drive without it though. If you can get cover from your insurer, great. If not you can buy it after customs at the border.
from horizons unlimited..

Happy trails

Fingers crossed you don't get a pull then fella:xrofl: have you ever seen Midnight Express?:xrofl::xrofl::xrofl: Whats the big deal just take it with you.
