Morocco 2015

Terry,Would you now take us off your list for 15Jan crossing. All seamed to be going to plan when we found out that DEFRA would not be able to do the rabies test on Tue 30 Dec as they are doing it Mon that week and we can't get sample to them earlier than tuesday. It would have meant a 4-5 day dash to make it for 14/15 Jan.So hope to meet up with some of you when we do get across to Marocco,I will be reading the posts avidly and hoping to get as much information as I can.................Martin&Sue:xangry::xThumb:

Thank goodness for this thread as I think a few dog owners would have been caught out. Well I makes me feel better to not be the only one leaving everything to the last minute.

Merry Christmas to one and all from Mena and I, hope to see some of you on the 15th and thereafter.

If you loose anything can you remember document numbers and such
I tried to use copies on sites all time and kept originals in safe
OK Got that! So will copies only suffice ?
you will need originals for border control or police
But most sites will ask for passport and once we where asked for vehicle and copies where ok

Second night at Midelt, municipal camping, also a bit of a garage. We had 8 disc pads re hashed with new blocks glued on. Spent last night mounted on wood blocks, tree stumps and bits of concrete slab with only one wheel attached! Lynne was walking in the van very gingerly to say the least.
Will let you know if it worked if we make it over the BIG mountains tomorrow.
Clear dry roads again on the way here, N13,

came thru a lot of snow but an easy drive of a couple of hours.
plenty of police checks, once holding up a hand as Lynne on the left did not give him eye contact. Not used to right hand drive.
Moving on to Ar Rachidna in the morn.
Enjoyed our first tagines of this trip today. Two big portions followed a starter of tomato and onion salad served with a 'hubcap' of bread, a large bottle of water and coffee for £7 all in.

Wish we'd waited until we get to Maroc to get our brakes sorted. We just had ours done at same garage that did the MOT and the van caught fire in the way home!!!!!!

One of the front fog light bulb holders (including the bulb) somehow became dislodged and was resting on the bumper, the bumper caught fire by the time we had driven from town to the site - max distance 1.5 miles! Colin had to put it out with one of our fire extinguishers.

I'm saying nothing!

Copy Documents - I've copied all our relevant documents to OneDrive i.e. the Google Cloud. If the worst happens and all else fails I can access copies from any internet-connected machine.

Terry,Would you now take us off your list for 15Jan crossing.
Okay, sorry to hear about your problem, hope you get it sorted and we catch up somewhere.

@Armytwowheels - good to see you're sorted, was waiting for a similar post to MrEd.

Isn't there a form you have to fill in with your motor home details in triplicate?
One for entry, one for exit and one you keep
Carlos will provide that, all filled in (hopefully). All you need do is fill in the CIN number you get from the Police in your passport and sign it.

?Can any of you experienced Morocco travellers tell us the limits on alcohol imports. Thanks:xThumb:

Don't know official limits. Never heard of any checks.

The only limits I am aware of are your vehicles storage capacity and suspension, and many travellers ignore the latter!

:drink: :wine: :beerchug:

Legally, it's next to nothing. All we were asked was are we carrying any Catholic books.

Some crafty FUNsters seem to arrive with huge quantities of Sprite, strangely all with broken seals.

We took 6 litres of Bacardi in a water container and bought wine and beer in Algiceras. You can buy alcohol in the supermarkets in larger cities. Marjane and Carrefour are two supermarkets we visited.

The Carrefour store we went to in Mohammedia was a bit higgledy piggledy in layout and not very busy. However, the wines and spirits department was in a separate room with a small entrance - it was packed with Muslims buying booze.

Some Moroccan wine is of a good quality, probably a legacy of the French. We still have a few bottles left from last years trip.
Touareg and Guerrouane were two brands we took a liking to and from memory were a bit more expensive than home.

We were staying at Les Jardins de Zagora campsite and mentioned to the patron that we were running low on wine. He asked us what we wanted and next day our supplies were replenished, albeit a bit more expensive than the supermarket.

Also in Zagora, we went into the Hôtel Tinzouline just round the corner from the campsite. The ladies had visited the hamam earlier and so we decided to have a meal in the evening. It was quite formal occasion in comparison to what we had experienced before. After the meal we sat in a Berber Tent by the swimming pool knocking back the local Stork beer, brought to us by a waiter.

Money - copies of all your vehicle documents (including MOT), in fact copy everything just in case. Ensure your own passports have more that 6 months to run. EHIC cards for reciprocal health treatment in the EU.

Dogs passport and the MOST IMPORTANT thing is the rabies certificate signed and dated - this in addition to the stamps in the dogs passport.
canopus .......I don't think you need your mot paperwork..log book defo.. but mot I hope not cause I a'int got mine with me..plese tell me I am right..lol.........
ps...sat on camping rio mar north of Benidorm..sun shining..

I was stopped by the Police approaching Marrakech and they asked to see my documents. He looked through them, then he asked me for my Contrôle Technique'. I didn't understand what he wanted and showed him the vehicle weight plate, the road tax disc, my driving licence but he kept asking for Contrôle Technique. At the roadside I didn't understand what he meant and quite fortuitously for me his mobile phone rang and since the traffic was building up behind me his younger colleague signalled for me to move on. When we got to Le Relais in Marrakech, I was told that the Contrôle Technique was in fact my MOT.

As it happened the MOT cert was in the folder under the V5 doc but I hadn't taken it out of the sleeve hence he hadn't seen it

I can't remember if they checked our mot but it was certain in the docs I gave them at port
and if you get a road side check police will ask for it
Can't you get some one to post it to one of the funsters that are not setting of till after new year ?

We've been stopped a couple of times by the Police but not been asked for our MOT. Sods Law though says if you haven't got it you'll be asked for it.
In which case the Gendarme will be rubbing his hands at the thought of a cash fine So make sure you don't keep very much cash in your wallet and plead poverty. Show him your nearly empty wallet and he might go easy on you x:-)

We were involved in a stone throwing incident in Morocco earlier in the year we posted the details on the "Morocco 2014 thread"

http://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum...sts-here-now-please.71538/page-84#post-950150

When we went to the local Gendarme station to report the incident we were asked for all paperwork relating to our MH including the MOT certificate, as suggested earlier it will be worth getting it sent over, or scanned and then e mailed so you can print it off . As the makems state "SODS LAW " ............

someone mentioned road tax well we now don't have a disc issued so does it matter.
We sail out of Portsmouth 8-15am can we stay at the docks on the fri night

So long as you've got the V5 and the name on it tallys with the name of one of the passport holders then you should be allowed a temporary import certificate of your vehicle into Morocco for a duration of three months.

Yes you can say at docs overnight, just arrive between 9:30 & 10:00 and you will be O.k.

We have on occasions arrived a lot earlier than that and just been asked by security which departure we are on and told that's OK.

I don't see how the Moroccan customs would keep track of the different requirements for each home country. They also don't care about insurance.
Their focus when you are passing through, is to ensure you have correctly completed the temporary importation forms, and aren't trying to buck the system..
above was a reply from tim cullis.. aka mr morocco..horizons unlimited..
so maybe the police were trying it on..bribes/etc..canopus the reason your mot thingy caught/threw me out, was I did morocco four years back on me motorbike, and I don't think I read anywere about having to take it ..v5 yes..main paperwork....maybe things change, not sure..
