Both Lidl & Aldi have now asked to see inside my empty bags before packing, one local larger Aldi has a sign at the check out asking you to place empty bags on the conveyor belt to be checked as this saves them asking which as mentioned can offend some people.
The BBC News keeps mentioning how much shoplifting has increased over the last 2 years, it amounts to many millions of pounds, one smaller Vegan/Organic type specialist supermarket chain with 8/9 branches said that their shoplifting had increased to well over a million pounds a year. They also said it was all types and ages of customer doing it, especially regular more wealthy ones, as they sometimes feel they deserve a free high priced luxury item now and again as a reward for being a loyal regular customer.
Many may have experienced a full time security guard being placed inside their local small Sainsbury Local supermarket, or Tesco Local?, I must admit to being surprised at seeing that happen at our local Sainsburys Convenience store, but I am told that shoplifting of legs of lamb/Beef Steaks and wine & Beer was becoming a real problem.
LES
See that if they reduced their prices by £800k a year they'd be 200k better off as folk wouldn't have to steal it 😁

In Germany first two letters are city/area so no choice.
I think they can get private plates too though as I've seen some crackers. But the plate belongs to the person not the vehicle, they move the plate to their next vehicle. Same in quite a few countries. They should do the same in the UK.

Put it this way I was in the usual long lidl queue as they never have all the tills open .I never saw anyone in front of me having their bags checked so whilst it might be random they obviously pick certain people.
But no matter
Why not take something in to the shop in your bag that will give them a good laugh when they check ... I'm sure you could think of something!

Just had a lidl pizza for dinner ...yum yum only the second I've had in 9 months 😋.

So we're just parked up by the harbour marina at the minute. I'll trundle round to the ferry terminal about 9.30 ish as it says 2 hours before for check in and I've to go pick up my tickets etc.

So that's basically this trip over . 259 days , 12000 miles , 10 countries. Estimated total spend is around £7k

The next few days now will be quite busy collecting the scooter then driving up to Wales to view the big van on Monday, I'll be staying at Jackie's from Monday to Wednesday morning having a catch up and fitting solar on her van for her then I'll head down to uncle lennys on Wednesday. Having issues getting an mot station as the one he recommended appears to have closed down which Is a bummer . Need to try and get moby motd next Mon/Tues.

I've got only 2.5gb of data left to do me till the 4th of August unless I can pick up an id, iq simcard from carphone warehouse or something as I need to sort out a better sim deal .

So I won't be posting a lot of photos over the next few days unless I'm on WiFi. Don't want to run out when I rely on my phone for everything. Hence me needing a better data package .

But Dinnae worry I'll no be disappearing.

It depends ... we've had loads of sims from them and so long as you're not wanting to keep your existing number you can do it as often as you like! Its if you need to port your number that its messy as you have to port out to some other provider first then back again. Hubby has a dual sim phone so it's not a problem for him.

Yes I'm not porting my number. I'm saving my number for a longterm deal I think. I'll use the lebara sim in my second phone and hotspot off it when I need to

He buys loads of caravans/motorhomes in poor condition then, Has he bought it dirt cheap because there’s loads wrong with it?
I would still be very wary, this motorhome has had years of being sat around engine not started. It goes against everything Lenny HB advises
Any service history for the engine?
Cambelt ever changed?

There’s so much to check on a van that’s hardly been used.

I wouldn’t get too excited just yet you did that with the last one that Al n Val and westy viewed.

Have you agreed a price Tam or is it open to negotiation?
Tam. Just a word of caution, but I am sure you know, back in 2013 we bought an Esterel A class 21 it was a 2006 model, owned by an old gentleman, who had bought it brand-new, he was now 93, and a bit like the one you are interested in it had not been anywhere for several years except to go for an MOT and back again. We know this was true as we know the dealer who sold it first thing to do as it was a Mercedes was to take it to the local Mercedes and get them to change all liquids and check brakes et cetera on it. Duncan is not someone who does these things at all , he was a sailor. It cost £1800 we put a new tires on it. It was a really nice motorhome top of the range about 6.7 m long. It had the Coriander worktops and everything.

The only problem was the absolutely every time we went away across the pond on our two month trip you could guarantee that we ended up in a Mercedes garage on the back of a low loader. The annoying thing was it was very tiny things that caused the problem, something that would cost a couple of euros but the labour cost so much more because it took ages to find it.

I know you will be able to give a proper check, whereas we don’t understand engines et cetera or we can look at is the bodywork and the internals Plus the tires and a glance at the engine. So I wish you the best of luck and I really hope you found a good one

Carol.

Yes sitting around does them no favours but from what I gather all tyres were replaced in 2021 ( I'll be checking ) and it had at minimum a lubrication service at last mot in October, again I will check as its usually obvious if filters are new etc. If I do buy it all wheels will be removed and brakes all cleaned up, new pads etc fitted before i head abroad in November. Cambelt etc will also be changed. And hopefully everything else has survived .

It won't actually be the first vehicle I've bought that sat around. I've had loads of old vws which had similar lives . One particular t2 was a 1970 ex convent bus that hadn't moved in over 20 years .

I'm hoping it's a good one but any major signs of trouble with it and I'll be walking away.

No when they move departments or whatever they call them they have to change their plates
