MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Yeah that's also one of my previous ideas. Not been back to.portugal since 2019 though. But when I was there last time I stayed with a member from here for a week or so on their bit land and gave a hand with their grape harvest etc. I also follow project Amber on Instagram and YouTube that bought his bit land out there. It's an option I've kept on a back burner.

The idea of buying a cheap flat in Scotland is that I'd still have a good chunk of capital left should I wish to buy a bit land etc somewhere else aswell.

And yeah you're right with the olive oil ....I paid fecking €9 this morning for a 500ml bottle . Its obscene
I’m no financial advisor - far too cautious! But for me this is a sensible plan.
If you pick the right flat it should increase in value over time - my gut is property outstrips other investments. Perhaps some financial bods on here could confirm/trash that assumption?

The Germans are really out in force this winter, they are everywhere… stayed on a new camperstop at Mazarrón for the last two nights as it was the only time and one space they had but it was completely rammed with Germans, there were more huge morellos and Concordes then at the factory…

But it was an excellent place, bar restaurant swimming pool and the best showers/toilets facilities I’ve ever seen anywhere all for €13 a night…

Now parked across the road from a camperstop near Alicante as it’s full too of Germans… it’s not looking good for my Xmas stay at Albir….☹️🤔
Same here in Portugal German vans every were and no time for any other nationality other than their own a bit like English enclaves on the med😂😂😂😂

Depends on the observation period. There will have been periods when that’s the case and periods when it hasn’t been. However, over the longer term, IIRC, I don’t believe that it does. The major issue with property, that may not be an issue for Tam, is its liquidity (or, more correctly, its lack of it).

Good point well made
UK property tends to increase in value.
I'm not sure the same is true for Mediterranean rural ones...
...could you get your money out again?
As you've said some of those you've posted have been on sale for several years

You have enough for a small place in the uk(Scotland) and possibly a small plot in Portugal… it will give you some home security and fallback property… once you done the Portugal bit you could then decide where you want to be and rent out the uk property…

Then you will still have the sense of going away to Greece or turkey or wherever, you do have the opportunity to have a international life style and as you know it’s fairly easy to live on 4-£500 a month from rent of the uk property in Portugal or on the road. A few bonus little jobs along the way also helps, but it all depends on when you want to settle…

I think the rent would a lot higher than that.
Maybe not if the purchase price of the flat is 65k ish ?

He's not buying in South Coast hyper house price land 😕

Even though the purchase price is low rents are often not a lot different to down here.
Not exactly same area but daughter was £650 a month for a 2-bed 1 bath just renovated flat in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. Moved to another 2-bed, 2 bath, bigger, new build that’s £700 a month.

Blimey that is cheap I thought they were a lot dearer up there. A two bed very small 30's house down here £1200
- £1500.

I can understand it being cheap in Aberdeen, only been there once that was enough. Place stunk of fish, asked some lads where the restaurants were the answer "there is a Mc Donald's down there or a Burger King over there or are yer loaded".

Aberdeenshire, not Aberdeen 😂😂. But daughter was at uni at Aberdeen and loved it.

But you’re right, Edinburgh and St Andrews are both more expensive. We’re paying £625 inc utilities for a room in a tiny 2 bed in St Andrews for student son.

You can sell photographs Tam. I know a couple of folks who do this but don’t know how, where etc. I know one guy usually around Wiltshire who takes excellent pics of ancient monuments. He prints them out as postcards and framed pics and sells them. Could do a hell of a lot more than he does but he doesn’t want to promote himself, no confidence.
Taking pics of a world heritage site gives you a worldwide customer base if you want to tap into it.

End of the day we are only here once matey so try to chill and enjoy 👍
Tam look on smugmug. It’s got professional photographers selling from it. I used to have my Aires website on there with the photos of all the Aires we’d ever stayed on

It was on there for about 10 years but having sold Motorhome after 33 years I decided I didn’t need it anymore and as it was a professional site I could nt afford the money. I didn’t sell from it so it’s cost was from my pension.

It’s worth a look as you do some fantastic pictures.

I did mine as our memories were getting worse and names were the same and similar we forgot. This allowed me to look quick to remind us.

Carol

I was lucky as Vicarious used to use a lot especially in the beginning when they started as I sent them a CD with the photos on

Don't professional / commercial image buyers usually require high resolution photos?
Certainly higher than the average phone delivers
Or has that changed?

Tbh I don’t really know as I only used it so I didn’t have the thousands on my phone!!! But there is a lady who sells from her iPhone. She got noticed as she lives on edge of Dartmoor at took a photo a day and posted it online everyday. She started do courses afterwards and books!!!

Carol

It would also depend on sizes you offer. Poster’s obviously need RAW images I think 💭

Rental income for 1 bed round there is probably about 500 -550. A 2 bed would get between 600 and 750.

Ideally I'd prefer a 2 bed if I buy a flat anyway , that one was just an example

It's a university city so not that cheap. I've a mate who rents out 2 flats up there he originally bought when his daughters were at university. He kept them afterwards as they bring him in a good income. Problem is the flats cost more to buy in those areas too.

If I buy a 2 bed flat in Dunfermline where I used to live it would cost me 100k , or I can buy one in nearby towns like Cowdenbeath, Crossgates or Kelty for around 60k

I don't want to spend 100k on a flat and I can drive so I'd rather buy cheaper and outside Dunfermline.

The rental potential is obviously then a little lower BUT at the minute I'm not sure I'd want to rent it out

Here's another example .

This one's 2 bedroom but no driveway

Tam I would be careful about buying a flat in a converted property. There is inadequate sound proofing especially if it’s a ground floor flat. Even something as innocuous as the upstairs washing machine will drive you nuts when it’s on spin mode. I speak from experience on this.

Much better to go for purpose built in a block in my opinion.

I can't really advise as I have lived in the same place all my life.
But from our chat when Northernraider was here, it didn't seem as if Scotland had much going for him anymore and he was into warmer climes so can't see much point in buying a place up there where he wouldn't want to be most of the year.
In my mind it would be far better to buy a cheap place in a warmer country and just visit Scotland when he felt like it.
We did mention Portugal when he was here but he seems to have gone off it now but there are plenty of places less than 30 grand with land attached there which would be my choice.

Yeah the problem being getting residency and some form of employment. I guess I just need to look in to it more .

In Spain they have something which I think is s called nomad residency. It is designed for people who work from home so can work anywhere. Not sure if being a landlord counts or not but would be worth looking into properly.
Portugal may have a similar scheme.
