MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

We were in Brighton this afternoon and Mi said exactly what I was thinking.
"Do any English people live in Brighton".
👋
Brighton is a vibrant, welcoming city with several Universities and colleges so of course it's full of all nationalities. Still mostly English living here though and the odd vagrant Scott 😂

This is my favourite place, but if I can't work then I can't do it.

And without a base back in Scotland I can't work there either.

That's why my head is all over the place this year because at somepoint during this trip I have to make a decision as to what I'm going to do in the future. I've nowhere to park up back in Scotland now. And if I'm not working I can eat through my savings very quickly .

I've never been to Turkey before so this trip is a first . Not sure what to expect with it yet to be honest.

Scotland isn't the same as it once was and there's nothing really there for me nowadays. Just the past and I need to focus on the future

Like I’ve said before Tam there’s always parking on my drive, I wasn’t jesting…

There’s always work in the summers here, the locals are are lazy lot…😆😎😉

I might pop past for a visit when I return next year. Not been to Cornwall since 2000, depending on what I decide to do I might just be getting my van motd down south somewhere and heading off again.

I'm only going back up to Scotland if I decide to buy a flat up there again. No point otherwise.

Tam there is a thing I have heard of called Irish Associations which is a possible entitlement to Irish citizenship (passport) if you can prove one of your blood relatives was entitled to Irish citizenship even if not born in Ireland, you say your granny was Irish but born in Dumbarton but if she was Irish as you said then you could possibly get in under that, she only had to be eligible for Irish citizenship she didn't actually have to take it, but I'm not quite clear how she was Irish but born in Scotland but you say she was Irish was she married to someone from here? If so she had those rights but never used it but there's a loophole you might get in under

You just tell them you know Tony Cascarino and you are in.

I've never been either, I was always put off the place by a friend who had a bad holiday experience there, so I stuck to Greece and Spain etc for fly n flop holidays.
But I think that was a false perception, there look to be many great places away from the tourist honey pots. Antalya region is somewhere on my radar that I hope to get to in the motorhome at some point.

I am permanently put off the place, having taken my boat there and worked there, flying out of Antalya.

Customs officers and taxi drivers tried, but failed, to leg me over.

I am totally against the current Erdogan government and I cannot forget the invasion of N. Cyprus, which no other government then Turkey recognises as a legitimate state.

If anyone just wants to visit as a tourist to see some sites and ignore the society it is then go for it. I cannot ignore the other aspects. Which is why I have never gone with Basia to visit her Sister living East of Bodrum.

My granny's parents came from moy cullen Galway, from what I gather though they were in Scotland at the time my granny was born so her birth was registered in Dumbarton... its a bit sketchy the history as I only got bits and pieces of information from my mum .

But if we avoided all countries because of their governments lol I'd have a real bother getting out of Scotland except in a plane 😁

Tam could you buy a place in Greece and rent it out when you had to do your 90 days out?
Might be more profitable to rent out a UK property and rent or vanlife when abroad. Then you don't have to stick on one location when sun seeking.

It might be worth hiring an expert in ancestry tracing to do the groundwork, it's just a lot of fecking about but it is doable it's just patience and expertise in that area, once they trace the Moycullen link the rest should be fairly straightforward, I definitely would think about it and it would put an end to all your problems about travelling and living in Europe

Aye I might have to look in to it more , I was doing a bit of research in to it last year while I was In Ireland, mum sent me some info etc and I could trace my great grandfather Owen Flaherty back to moycullen ... I posted some photos of him up etc on last years thread.

It is frustrating though even at my age , I really feel for the younger generations who have lost all these opportunities.

I just regret not doing my original plan in 2017 of getting Spanish residency as that was how all this started .... I had a job offer in gran Canaria and I sold up and resigned to go do that ....then I decided last minute to buy a mh and travel for a year instead ..

Hindsight is a wonderful thing .

Lol it certainly is but you should definitely think about getting an expert to look into the Moycullen link if that comes to fruition your home and dry, you might even get someone no success, no fee
