MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

The gift that keeps on giving, well at least we can now control our own borders 😎😇😆
Aye ... no one can leave but any Fecker can enter.

That was a success eh.

Oh sorry ...you can leave if you're fairly wealthy , but otherwise you have to stay in the ever increasing shithole its becoming.

So I guess this will be my last trip this year because next summer I'm going to have to return to normal life , buy a shitty flat and get a crappy job I hate again. Because my options are limited.

Didn’t Offagain get a residency and I think they only have a boat
i think the working permit restrictions may be Tams biggest hurdle. But , i really have not done any homework on the subject.

I have enough in the bank to get the 2 year visa.

But I'm only 50 and a long way off retirement, I need to work , whether that's back in the UK or somewhere warmer. I don't have any private pension etc and I don't qualify for a state pension for another 18 years.

Yep that's my problem anywhere now it seems.

I saw quite a few nice cheep properties in Portugal, isn’t it easier getting residency there…?

If you live in your favourite place you’ve no excuse to go elsewhere in the van….😉😎
This is my favourite place, but if I can't work then I can't do it.

And without a base back in Scotland I can't work there either.

That's why my head is all over the place this year because at somepoint during this trip I have to make a decision as to what I'm going to do in the future. I've nowhere to park up back in Scotland now. And if I'm not working I can eat through my savings very quickly .

If I recall Tam, you are planning to visit Turkey for the first time. Lots of similarities with Greece, wonder if it would hold similar appeal?

Not sure if it would be easier to obtain a residency permit. From what I saw, ownership of a property (no specified value) would enable an application for an initial 2-year permit?

Whilst in Turkey could you look for campsite / warden work ?
Would that appeal ? It would give you a little bit of breathing space to decide on your next move.
Going back to Scotland doesn't seem to hold much appeal for you

Tam, did you positively rule out any Irish grandparents?.

This is a good site for Scottish Ancestors......

You would need to register and buy some credits but all you would need to find is the two marriages involving the parents of your Mam and Dad respectively.

The Scottish certificates give a lot more information than the Engish ones.

I think you can access the 1921 census on there and that would give you all four of your grandparents with their place of birth.

Good Luck.

I've never been to Turkey before so this trip is a first . Not sure what to expect with it yet to be honest.

Scotland isn't the same as it once was and there's nothing really there for me nowadays. Just the past and I need to focus on the future

served in a number of parts of Turkey Tam, its "a nice place in places" ! :whistle2: i had a Turkish liaison officer with me most of the time and that was difficult enough. I would think that working there with their general outlook on life would be a significant challenge as would the language.

now Northern Cyprus is a different matter. :getmecoat:

I've never been either, I was always put off the place by a friend who had a bad holiday experience there, so I stuck to Greece and Spain etc for fly n flop holidays.
But I think that was a false perception, there look to be many great places away from the tourist honey pots. Antalya region is somewhere on my radar that I hope to get to in the motorhome at some point.
