MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

But you have chosen an island with an international airport with charter flights.

MY island and several others I know are 2 hours or more by ferry from airports.

There are experienced Greek island-hoppers on this forum. Maybe you should have asked some questions.
PATMOS,it is a small island ve vill find you....😉

Yamas🍻

Who's Michael mosley?
He's a tv Dr, presenter and wrote a book called the 5 2 diet. He died suddenly recently on holiday on the Greek island of Symi. Don't go there Tam you will all break your fecking legs on those rocks.

I am not missing the point, I understand the need and desire for peace and quiet, that does however not mean that it wouldn’t be enjoyable to have an hours stroll through a pretty place with the dogs on a lead, both Assos and Fiskardo are places you don’t really want to miss when you are on the island, and when people make suggestions it is obviously to the OP to do whatever he likes …….🤷🏻‍♂️
Asos looks nice I had looked at it yesterday online . Just not sure if I can get parked there or not but I will have a look when I'm passing

Tam, I can completely understand your needs with the dogs. I hope this spot is ok. Pics do look idyllic though. We will be back to Greece this September and can’t wait. I’m tempted with the island but we are over 8 mts  and you’re not selling it!

It’s a pain even by car, but it is very cute, personally I would try to park up just a little higher and walk down, from the main road turning , it’s quite a long windy road down with some gentle hairpins, but parking spots are sparse , right at the bottom it’s a dead end, no one likes to walk these days so it is mostly chaos , as the parking lot is small and the last bit is quite narrow leading to it, nice opportunity to hike from the little harbour towards the fort too.
In the centre of the island you have the mellesani ( spelled wrong obviously ) caves and underground lake which are very pretty but again I doubt that it will be dog friendly, you are still to pass the beach which features in every brochure of kefalonia too👍

If it's not dog friendly then it's a no from Tam I think but it sounds lovely. We are walkers so we would leave the car.

If you don't have a dog. And you have a scooter or want to hire a car while you're on it then go for it. Otherwise I wouldn't advise it with an 8 metre .. some of the villages are tight. My van is 7 metres, good ground clearance . Only 2.2m wide and 2.7m high . I've been dragging through the trees at a few places. And some of the hairpins are very tight. Apart from the bin lorry I've been the biggest vehicle I've seen here.

And to be honest you're not missing anything.

Jees you just gotta love women!

So we are now in asos after having to do a huge diversion up over the mountains as the coastal road was closed ...so all the way back to argostolian then up the middle past myrtos beach ( highly overated) and down the steep windy road to Asos.. I got all the way down to harbour but as suspected it was packed so had to drive through the village again to a new carpark they've created. It's pretty big and loads of space but typically I'm sat having a coffee before we go out and 2 youngish girls decide to park right next to me .... passenger opens the door and of course batters it and I mean really batters it off my camper... I opened the blind and said the first thing thar came to mind which was oh fir feck sake ... she apologised but I said sorry but that doesn't cut it ... you need to be more careful , there's a whole carpark why the feck are you parking there and as close when you know its on a slope .. meanwhile she's saying its OK, it's OK there's no damage , which was more luck than anything else.

Love em don't yer, in a French hypermarket car park I was parked right over the far side hundreds of empty spaces around me. Woman driving and old camper comes in far too fast and pulls up right next to me catching the side of my van with her mirror.
She gets out looks at me laughs and walks off before I could even get the door open.
Lucky no damage she just caught the door hinge.

Its to shade their car Tam, you've probably pitched the last tree :giggler:

But the sun is on that side you can see the shadow of their car
But they are women they don't under stand that. 🤣

it should have been a simple 30 minute drive up the coast to asos but they had the road closed just as you came off the peninsula and the diversion took us way back to just opposite argostoli then up through the mountains passed dilinata to divirata.. and then passed the famous myrtos beach ...which people pay money to go on lol ... highly overated as you can see

Having looked online at this a few days ago it looked a brightly coloured charming wee village , it's still nice enough but nothing like the pics online which have obviously been enhanced, being a Sunday it was pretty busy . Managed to get parked amongst some olive trees. Had some lunch then went for a look around

Beaches full of sun worshippers again so I'd given up on getting the dogs in the water here but as luck would have it I stumbled upon this tiny wee beach opposite the harbour with a steep climb down that no one had got to ...
20240616_142456_copy_1612x1116.jpg

So we climbed down there dogs were having a ball ....but you're never too far from an invading German or 12 ... the first couple that stumbled upon us I could see his eyes light up ...he made the climb down but his wife only got half way before a very wet barky blu met her and jumped all over her white trousers .. I made a half arsed attempt not dissimilar from johhny Depp as Willie wonka to call her back something like " oh blu sweety don't bother the lady , blu , blu , oh what can you do " while waving my arms , her face was a picture but after some hysterical words in German and her husband getting an earful they retreated hastily and the battle was won......well till the next fecking sauerkraut chompers arrived. They didn't give up so easily despite blu , milo and ela all giving it their best 🤣🤣 they got jumped on and clothes wet but they seemed to like dogs or put on a brave face and made the most of it... they couldn't speak english but had a bit of a conversation with milo ...and threw a stick or two for blu ...they had a wee swim then just as they were leaving another pair made the descent.. white trousers ...very bad idea .. not sure why women insist on wearing those to a beach but animal print is in fashion and blu helped her out lol .. I decided during this that I was making no attempt to call them back as in my mind we were there first there were two busy beaches opposite with lots of people and no dogs that this lot could have went to ... but they persevered and by that time we'd spent about 2 hours there so we left them too it.

I didn't have my swim shorts on so I couldn't go in but I'm planning to head round there tomorrow again after breakfast better prepared. Hopefully get there before anyone else and like good old Winston said we will fight them on the beaches.

My new rule ,if we are there first then it's up to the invaders if they want to endure the dogs or not . I'm tired of my dogs missing out because of other folk .

Feck em I say.

That’s really pretty there, a little bit of life too and perfect for you and the dogs….

Also that’s the funniest post you’ve done for ages, I nearly thought you had lost your sense of humour…😂😎

There's a German equivalent of Jackie parked next to me this morning , an old Renault traffic panel van....honestly you should see inside it ... if I could take a photo without being too obvious I would but she's currently stood outside cooking pancakes. I have only one ever seen so much shite in the back of a van and it was at the recycling centre. How she sleeps in there I don't know.

It's OK she's aware how bad her van was, that said she has a bigger one now but it's still a tip inside
