Be careful Tam, I caught a 'cold' in Morocco early February turned out it was whooping cough (although vaccinated for it in childhood) but it was horrible worse than any bouts of covid I've had (caught it 3 times!) I ended up with pneumonia in hospital on an oxygen machine, its nearly 2 months later and I'm still having severe coughing bouts and gasping for breath, whooping cough is one nasty illness, got antibiotics from the hospital which seemed good but been told by doctor this coughing and gasping for breath might continue for months! So be careful mate, it's a bummer to catch 🤢🤮

Lol
Just reaffirming what mark49 was saying it would do no harm to stock up on some antibiotics if you can buy some, just in case you do get something nasty as according to the medics that dealt with me if I had of got antibiotics early on in my case it wouldn't of been nearly half as bad,
Anyway keep safe big yin and get well soon! 👍

Hi Paul

Yes mate we are fine. Bit shocked to see that picture of you with oxygen mask on. Hope you get well soon.
Yea it was a shock to me too Ken, thing is I didn't realise it was serious until it was too late and the pneumonia had set in i just ploughed on as you do thinking it was just a bad cold but as I was saying to Tam the hospital said if I had caught it with antibiotics early on it wouldn't of gotten to that stage, apparently that whooping cough is about everywhere this year, probably another spin off from the covid years, who knows... but anyway hope you still enjoying your new van mate although this UK weather is shite at the minute lol 🤷‍♂️

Were you in hospital in Maroc Paul? I know how serious it is, as I had whooping cough and pneumonia as a child. It’s a bloody awful ailment. Took ages to get better as I recall.

Yea it's a horrible illness for sure
Yes I was in hospital in Tangiers City beautiful place like a 5 star hotel 😉 and they allowed the camper to park in their grounds which were lovely with free electricity etc ( might stick it on to P4N!) 😂

For the last 3 years i have had a pretty bad chest infection, either November/December time. taking weeks to clear.
Can't get antibiotics from the chemist, yes they can prescribe if no underlying conditions, as i have asthma, can't get a drs appointment.
Before covid we had different doctors, I had an open prescription for an antibiotic, which I could have filled when I knew I was needing them. Never had the debilitating coughing, exhaustion which i get when they aren't started soon enough.
Know enough to be aware of when I need to take action, and when not. Will be stocking up, not loads but enough to see me through, when next abroad.
Hope you pick up soon Tam whooping cough is nasty and is on the rise, doubt, given how little contact you have had with humanity on this trip, that that will be the cause, am sure you know the difference between a cold and a chest infection, would have some antibiotics in store just in case.

Thanks all ...I'm pretty sure it's just a cold at the minute most uncomfortable thing is the sore throat when I cough .. not coughing a great deal but when I do I'm gargling mucus... I was tempted to go back to the sulphur pool and steam it out of me but I also think that's likely where I caught it so I didn't bother ..

Hopefully it won't last long I'm just taking paracetamol

We had a walk to the monestary this morning but no dogs allowed In the grounds sadly. These religious people confuse me ...I mean they believe God created all living things but they exclude man's best friend from walking round the outside of a monestary... strange 😁

Anyway that's as far east as I'm going this time in georgia so this afternoon I headed back to the black sea coast and I'm near poti... parked at a big sandy beach. Only a couple more days in georgia before I head back to Turkey so I'll just have a few nights on the coast between here and the border.

Tried some more georgian fast food today ... one was like a meat filled folded pizza and the other was cheese filled filo pastry...both were fabulous and cost £3 for both

I'm laughing at the thought of you making yourself know in the shops. Pointing and ugghing ha ha. I was in Portugal booking into a marina 10 years ago, my friend was complaining to the staff that some of them didn't even speak English! I said do you get a Portugese man in your local shop complaining that you don't speak Portugese? They should all speak English he said. I just couldn't get through.
Hope you haven't got this 100 day cough that's so prevalent here. Good luck

The 100 days cough is actually whooping cough. Horrible disease which is why everyone ought to be vaccinated against it as a child and then boosters in later life.

Yeah we brits are terrible at expecting others to speak english , but that said I've been in 28 countries or summit now and it would be impossible to learn to speak all those languages...I get confused enough with knowing one and a half languages.

I think English is the second language here In georgia though , I believe its taught in school now and everywhere you go there are English signs etc. But most of the older folk I'd say 40/50 up don't speak it with exception of a few . But its only been an independent country since the 90's

I did have plenty paracetamol and ibuprofen on board as I always carry a decent supply of them but I've been getting through those over the last 3 days they're helping but I still feel rough, didn't have a good sleep last night couldn't stop coughing so when I got up at 8am I was like death warmed up ... let dogs out for toilet etc forced down some breakfast and went back to bed... problem is spring has now arrived and it was 23° today so I'm too bloody warm . I don't feel like my forehead is warm so I don't think I've a temperature but the rest of me feels warm . Throat is red raw , chest feels like I've had cardio massage from Mike Tyson. No energy etc .

Got up again around 12 and managed a short walk along promenade with dogs then a light lunch and back to bed ... hadn't planned to stay here again tonight as not that great a spot but I can't be arsed moving so probably spend most of the evening in bed. Made a huge pot of soup 2 nights ago so at least dinner is sorted . Hopefully a bit better tomorrow

As colds go I have to say its quite a bad one , very aggressive compared to one's I've had in the past but I am fairly certain and hopeful that's all it is. The thought of anything more serious scares the shit out of me when travelling as having 4 dogs in a foreign country on your own makes the thought of any hospital visits etc very daunting.

I'll keep taking the paracetamol 8,12,4 and 8 and the ibuprofen 10,2,6 and ten and Hopefully if I get a decent kip tonight I'll be a lot better tomorrow. Poor dogs are bored

At the minute I've definitely not got that , its just a flemy cough with yellow green slime. Weird as I never really got the runny nose part first like usual. But runny now but it's clear water so not sure where the mucus is coming from but coughing to shift it is sore

To cheer myself up with being so sick I bought a nice new 300 Vespa (almost matches the camper colour lol) and one of them trailers the French all use that the wheels turn themselves when you reverse! 😂

it's not just a bad cold, that green/yellow mucous says chest infection tam, you really need the right type of antibiotics specific to a chest infection to combat it..
please don't leave it to get worse, as you say, you have the dogs to look after, you don't want it to get any worse than you already are..
