MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Tomorrow I plan to head in the direction of grenoble , I will probably stop somewhere between lyon and grenoble itself. I'm as yet undecided whether to continue right down to the coast of France and then follow coast in to Italy or to cross over via briancon to susa on the non toll road. , my only concern is if there was any snow on that route as I'd rather avoid that. So if anyone has been through there recently or can check a weather report or something for me that would be handy. I quite liked that road when I did it before and susa was a nice town.
We stayed near Briançon in the summer and took the lifts up with our bikes. Beautiful area and a lovely drive. Though definitely a ski area so could be snowy now. Friends in the Alps have had some snow already.

I've walked over that Aquaduct.

Tam on an official Aire, are you well?
Obviously a free one.
I have motored my sailing boat over it, together with passing through 168 locks on way to Greece.

It took 2 months but Tam will get there quicker.

Horrible cold wet damp day here today. Been trying to get my satnavs to work today but having no bloody luck . I think maybe my xgody one is faulty as I can't get it to work using the sd cards I have with latest maps and uncle lenny tried to update the map on the actual unit and we've not had much luck there either.

My other one is an agioss unit and only 5inch , can't find updates for that anywhere online.

Not the best time to be doing it with ferry tomorrow.

In other news I've now booked my ferry from italy to Greece with viamare , so I'm on that 3rd December bari to igoumenitsa. Just hope I have no more issues with the van. I'm a lot more anxious this year than I have ever been.
Hi Tam
Do you have an iPad??
If yes download TomTom. It’s only about £12
for a year, then you can stand your iPad up on the dash it’s a very good way and big to see.
Good luck matey
Mitch

A couple of dogs on leads on my ferry from Majorca in the public areas yesterday, no muzzles.....
Even more surprising a large Doodle (no muzzle) under a table in a dining room on BFs Salamanca from Santander - and restaurant staff petting it :giggle:

Bonsoir, salut Mon petit cabbage, we left Briare around 11am , a long day driving today , I counted 143 roundabouts , you would think with this many roundabouts the French would know how to use them but alas no , they also seem to find it hard to grasp that large vehicles ie motorhomes can't go round them as fast as a Renault clio nor can they get back up to speed as quickly after leaving one.... so they then sit on your arse till you get back up to 70kph and then they overtake where they are not supposed to and then some have the cheek to then slow down and drive at 10-15kph under the speed limit . The general standard of driving is quite appalling to be fair but some are a danger on the road. Speaking of speed limits they make no sense half the time , I've been on roads today that 80kph would be absolutely fine but are at 30kph then others where only a motorbike could possibly manouve round the high kerbs, central barriers etc they put up just to make sure you're paying attention. And then there's the speed bumps designed to break every dish I'm your camper. It's just a shit place to drive it really is . And then the final blow I came round a bend to find 2 signs in the road advising the road narrowed ....the only think making the road narrow was the bloody sign which I hit around 60kph It gave quite a clatter and I was dreading stopping to see what damage it had done to moby but miraculously I can't see anything . He's quite a tough old donkey really. Anyway we arrived here at our chosen aire for tonight around 5pm .... free of course and there's free water and waste dump which is handy.

That's the benefit of paying tolls half the time and a straight drive.....

It is if one is touring, 30-50km per day but not if one is 'racing' to the Med.

Tam, I notice you are parked facing into the grass bank, probably to keep the van level, but I always try to park facing outwards so I can have a quick gettaway if necessary. It usually means I have to use levellers, which is a nuisance.

My beds at the front so keeping it away from the road. Shouldn't need any quick getaway lol . I've a Louiseville slugger 🤣

I love France and its meandering non toll roads. However the increasing number of roundabouts in the middle of nowhere, random speed limits and severe traffic calming measures was taking a toll on my clutch foot. Problem solved, new to me van with auto gear box, point and press and the joy has returned.

That's you stuffed then obviously no sense of direction.
to be pedantic when you exit the shuttle at Coquelles you hit the roundabout and go right to go North / North East, Belgium, Nederland's, Germany.

if you go left you go along the french coast towards Rouen.

Don't spoil the fun.

Bloody hell, I’m glad I’m not touring with you lot, get off the train go past the fuel station on the left and at the end bear RIGHT to get on A16 towards Dunkirk, Belgium etc:doh:
Coastal Cruiser. no wonder you set off for Sweden and ended up in Switzerland🤷‍♂️😁😁

I’m a get off eurotunnel and turn right towards Germany kind of guy👌👍😁
You and Tam just don't understand France.
It's not a place blat through you need to just ponder along village to village 20 miles a day is far enough to the next village soak up the atmosphere and find a nice family run restaurant.

Germany on the other hand any interesting places are miles apart and involves driving all day and then when you get there they charge you to park and not let's forget the sh*t food.
