MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Bonjour mi petis pois we arrived in briare 3.45 , thankfully the rain has stopped so weve had a walk along the canal and in to the town , picked up a baguette and 2 fruit pinwheels at the patisserie.

4 other motorhomes in town . Were on the official aire.

Following your trip with great interest. We make an annual trip to Turkey leaving the UK around March.
Favoured route was was from Calais down through France, to Italy Via Mont Blanc Tunnel and then to Ancona, Greece and Turkey.
Last year went overland but next year reverting to the “old route” we felt more comfortable.
I’m really interested in the Newhaven to Dieppe route.
Safe travels.

Tomorrow I plan to head in the direction of grenoble , I will probably stop somewhere between lyon and grenoble itself. I'm as yet undecided whether to continue right down to the coast of France and then follow coast in to Italy or to cross over via briancon to susa on the non toll road. , my only concern is if there was any snow on that route as I'd rather avoid that. So if anyone has been through there recently or can check a weather report or something for me that would be handy. I quite liked that road when I did it before and susa was a nice town.

Tam on an official Aire, are you well?
Obviously a free one.

Your going on rightly Tam, well south of Paris 👍 you must be hunting for the heat lol
Stay clear of them Lyon & Grenoble cities they have that emissions thing going on whatever its called....
Personally if it was me I'd head on south to the coast into Italy as you say you never know if there's snow or whatever up there

Hi Tam if you head from Grenoble to Briancon via the col de lautaret there is an official stop on the roundabout in Le Bourg D’Oisans but there is also a very lovely stop along the plain towards the St Christophe valley it is parallel to the main rd but over the river and under the opposite mountain they have made some lovely rock pools to catch the water and there is a composting type toilet there, it is a lovely stop and a wonderful walk along the stream and you can be traffic free for hours, if it is of any use I can send you the coordinates or the w3w.
🚐👌

good to see you are on the move, it's looking brighter than here too. Can't help with info for your onward journey.

That really bugs me when they do that & the Franch are worse, they love to do it at 8 in the morning & wake me up.

I've walked over that Aquaduct.
I've kayaked it! :dance2:

However it wasn't all plain 'sailing' ... I got out at the other end to see if we could get down to the river and have a paddle on that but it wasn't possible, unfortunately as I was getting back in my kayak I slipped* on the underwater part of the step which must have had algae on it (not visible) and on the way into the canal bashed my coccyx on the upper step .. it flaming well hurt! :crying: I did get a round of applause from onlookers when I climbed out and got straight back into my kayak though!

(*That's why I always wear a buoyancy aid, going into the very cold canal water up to my chest wasn't a pleasant experience but at least I didn't have to 'panic' about staying afloat as well as getting out, you just never know when you are going to need it.)

I had the typical one this morning…. French chap walks 30mtrs from his van to have a phone conversation under my window…🤬😆

Briare looks lovely … on my list of places to stop now … wish you stayed longer in France to find us more places 😂
It is, it's the Pont Canal de Briare, we've been many times and always love being there, ideal for dog walking although they tend not to like the steps down to the central part under the bridge! If you're lucky you might find some mushrooms growing on some of the banks - just make sure they are definitely edible.

I avoid the cities themselves anyway. I'm not hanging about in France so even if it was warmer on the French coast I'd not be staying. I never found it very pretty last time I was down there.

Tam our route… (Bari) or Ancona, Bologna, Milan, Lugano, Lucerne, Basel, Colmar, Strasbourg, Luxembourg, Bastogne, Namur, Mons, Lille, Dunkirk, Calais.
We just put these places in the sat nav not suggested stops.

we use tolls in italy but not in France.
we are in Colmar tonight, stopped outside Milan last night and Pescaro about an hour from Ancona the night before.
another 2 days of 4 hours driving and we will be in Calais. We’ve booked the tunnel for Tuesday though because of worming the dog etc.

we reversed this route in August with cliffanger and found it good. I’m sure she’ll correct me if it’s wrong. Also our blog “Five go in search of happiness “ details our trip around the Peloponnes. (Not that you’ve time to read it!).

Safe driving and get through that tunnel in Switzerland ASAP…that’s the last time we saw blue sky!

I'm following the west coast down Italy this time as I've not done it before. My ferry to Greece is 2 weeks tomorrow from bari

According to the late Terry Pratchett all mushrooms are edible, though some only once.

I see you’ve painted the wheels 👍
did you mask the tyre valves?
(mibee dislodged something when removal of masking tape…hence the flat tyre)

Nah I didn't, wheels were brush painted. The flat tyre was very weird
