Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

Well the rest of my day was spent fixing mums 10 year old 1 owner from new 11000mile kia ....that my sister wrecked.

Turned out not to bad considering. All done by hand

So ive just picked Toby up ...all abs rings are fine , abs pump is fine , checked all sensors with multimeter and the passenger side front is the only one where theres a fluctuation in voltage ...but not all the time 🤷🏻‍♂️ so it seems thats the only possibility. He also blew out the spaces where the reluctor rings are fitted incase of any debri. I took it up the motorway again and no lights at present ...had it up to 70mph .
So the only thing i can do is have that one sensor replaced and if that doesn't cure the problem ill be going to greece as planned 1st October. Had to come back for work but planning to take it out again tomorrow for a longer drive just to see if the light comes on again.

The primer was done 3 days ago ,the hammerite 2 days ago and the Stone chip today ...not sure why its reacted.
I think Hammerite is Enamel based it needs a special primer on top.
Do you remember what happened to old 60's VW's they used enamel paint used to make a right mess if sprayed with cellulose.

I thought you had flogged it Tam the guy paid the deposit? I may have missed an update?
Potentially sold but abs light came on on the test drive which buyer wanted fixed. Problem is it's an intermittent fault thats proving hard to trace.

Yeah it has to be something like that as it reacted on the other side too and id left that 3 days to dry . But it seems to have adhered to it just left a bit of a pattern on it.

Will you be getting it re-registered as a Tamobile as I don't think there are enough Merc bits left to qualify as a Merc.
Engine and chassis all merc ...even the oil and air filters 🤣🤣 . Half these busses were never built by merc anyway lol ...

What could you upgrade to chugging old gardner?! Lol

Cheers James

Just signed up to tell you to get a wriggle on! I'm busting to see how you're going to weld the windows up! Pretty much exactly what I want to do..

Been a fantastic days read...

Good luck!
Ive a couple of choices with welding them up ...but my preferred method will be puddle welds 😉

I would be tempted to bond the window panels in unless you have access to a spot welder with long lead type electrodes to much distortion with mig

What glue would you suggest for steel to steel?

Cheers James

Chances are it has as much rot as all the other Varios and much harder to see/fix. Does look good from the outside.
Its usually the body that rusts on them though ...never seen a rusty chassis on one yet and with that one having a motorhome body on it .. might be a good one ..but too big for me

I wouldn't like to rely on glue alone ... I've seen a couple of them done with glue and rivets, others seam welded. Im not planning to weld in the same size as the glass but to weld the entire panel ....if doing puddle welds and alternating between top , bottom left, right etc it hopefully won't distort too much . Im going to try the one on the side door first to see how it works out.

Silkaflex it and it will never move and as a bonus will seal edges from water.... Good luck whatever you choose

I want the ability to blend in the panels i fit with the rest of the bodywork so it looks like windows were never there

That will look great. But a bit of a challenge.
Not that you are not up for any challenge 😉
It will be but i follow 2 other vario builds who managed it ...so im hoping i can too . Lets face it theres not much difference between that and flush welding the sills together etc ....

Never heared that term... Must have had a sheltered life😉
It is a means of putting a step along the edge of a sheet of metal the depth of which matches the thickness of the panel.

"To repair the bodywork on my UMM Transcat I need to let in quite a large amount of 2mm thick strips (the body is made from 2mm :o) as lack of rustproofing from new means joinst have rotted away.
The thought of butt welding such a large amount is daunting so I'm considering joddling the sections and plug welding as it's non structual areas."

Or see:

Amazon product ASIN B01M0QSG33.
