Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

i had no end of clutch problems on a transit and it was the arm had bent inside the bellhousing similar symtoms of no adjustment
was that the one that has some sort of vulcanised rubber bit in it? They were common for requiring regular replacement. Whoever invented it should have bee made to change the mall.

So this morning i took toby to the garage to have their diagnostic machine check out these lights on the dash Abs and Asr ..... drove out the drive ...20 yards down the road and they went off 🤦‍♂️ took it to the petrol station stuck some diesel in and set off up the motorway ....no lights till i got to 62mph then both came back on ....brakes etc all absolutely fine ... drove it down to the garage hooked up their handheld scanner ....25 minutes later and its found nothing 🤷🏻‍♂️ started the van up drive 20 yards lights go off again . Garage thinks it could be a intermittent sensor fault but no idea which one ... theres 4 of them , could also be brake light switch ...ruled out abs pump or rings as if it was either of those it would stay illuminated and not go out. Problem is finding which sensor as theres nothing visible. Looking on google this seems to be a common thing with the fiat ducato sensors. Doesn't affect the driving off the van in any way. It also seems from fiat forums this can happen after having discs pads etc replaced which of course this has had all them done last year front and back 🤷🏻‍♂️

You could try checking the reluctor gap see if one has more than the others , or any debris lodged.

Brake pedal switch is a favourite. If or when ,light comes on try lifting it upwards with your toe.

My car use to do it on rough roads. eml would come on as it thought you had your foot on the accelerator & brake at the same time.Soon as you took foot off the accelerator it would go off again.

From what i can see of the reluctor rings they look fine too

I did get stuck in that sand in greece a few days before i returned so wondered if maybe that had anything to do with it but you'd think it would have sorted itself out.

The EML light doesn't come on which would probably help locate it if it did

have you tried , unplugging and reconnecting wheel sensors , checked for any wear/movement in hubs?
If you have a suitable meter you might try using hall effect and plug into sensor and spin wheel see profile. last resort :)

How's ya luck, Tam...

Oh well Tam, it’ll stop you getting bored. Family eh two of my brothers have smashed up two of my cars over the years.
The vans coming on a treat though. You’re sticking the steel together better every day🤭.keep it going you’re getting nearer to finishing welding every day too.

I'd be getting your sister to do the donkey work of rubbing down etc as penance at least!

Don’t bother to do the lotto this week!

Not that you would anyway,I guess, being a canny sort of chap! :ROFLMAO:

Does your sister drive a car with an automatic handbrake by any chance? I used to forget to put the handbrake on in my van when i got a car with an automatic handbrake, luckily the road i live in is flat!!

Vans looking great and your welding is as good As it get mate. You do have a talent for panel work from scratch. Looks like your mums car will polish out ok you have the machine for it. Your will have a we bit that won’t worry you in the slightest. Enjoys your thread more being stuck in hospital. With a severe heel fracture. Surgery Wednesday I hope.

I dunno about that ...most of the welding don't look pretty but as long as its solid and buffs down it will do.

Back at the garage this morning with my car as the clutch still isn't right . Would be a bit of a coincidence if the cable i got from the scrap car was also stretched but its adjusted nearly to the max and the pedal is still biting right at the top and feels very light with little resistance. Vehicles are driving me crazy this week ...need the car sorted as it earns me money and costs me when it fails.

And then i have to find the fault with Toby when all i really want to do is get on with the welding on the merc before the crap weather returns.

Agreed the fiddly bits are going to test your metal working to the limit more so than the sills etc.

I'm sure you will smash it though, - clutch cables permitting!!

Cheers James

Yes i bought a 3 part kit so everything should have been changed. Arm doesn't look bent . Took it back there yesterday and they say the cable i fitted is also stretched i find that hard to believe so ive ordered a new cable which will be here in a day or 2 ...if that gets fitted and still not right then theyve done something wrong with the clutch.

Wish id just left the bloody thing .

Take a break in Plymouth and kill two birds with one stone!
Not funny for those of us who live in Plymouth. My family live very close to the location and my grandson was working in the KFC just up the road where they had to close because of the incident

Forgot to say I can get that rear panel bent but I should have kept a bit of material for it. What thickness should it be and have you got any kicking about? I'm in Edinburgh and planning going back up north on Sunday so could pop round for any if you have.

I dont have any metal unfortunately ...i need more . It will be 1.2mm thick ...i need the bent bit but also 2 other lengths the width of the van . If you're passing on sunday pop in and ill show you what i mean. I also need to measure my window panels and see if theres a possibility you can guillotine those for me .
