Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

Nowhere near a perfect finish but as im months away from paint and im worried about the primer and filler not being waterproof ...so ive rattle can sprayed some white gloss over the sills .....looks ok from 10 yards though 🤣🤣🤣🤣View attachment 529097View attachment 529098View attachment 529099View attachment 529100View attachment 529101View attachment 529102View attachment 529103
We used to say “good enough for farm work”. It will do the job until your ready for a final finish 🙂

i would body shultz the sills prior to paint
I’d stone chip primer them. Less rippled effect and a much better paint finish than painting over body shutz.
But (I know, shouldn’t start a sentence with but) it’s not my van so I’m sure Tam can and will have his own idea re the finish.

I had a chat with my mate and he said it looks great….👍🏼

by the way Stevie Wonder said Hi…👋🏼

I was thinking the same. Also, I suppose it would be difficult to get them to look like they were meant to be part of the van. I’ve not seen any in person but I’ve seen similar sold as a part made for sprinters and they looked like they might look good.
My sprinter has a pod both sides one incorporates a window, granted its not a self build. The pods dont extend any more than the wing mirrors so unlikely to get whacked.

i would say mirrors are almost sacrificial items

i would like to do a poll see how many people here have had some twat hit their mirrors usually with out damage as they are sprung those pods will be a bit more solid

The mirrors on those old Mercs are over 12" off the body, the pods would want to be wide to get bumped.

Thinking about it, you can fold the mirrors in down a tight spot... but how often does that happen...

Yeah i might do a cardboard interior too ...but Minxy Girl has offered to do a plan thing on her computa me bob once i have measured things up.
Offer still stands Tam, hopefully I won't be in prison for murder and/or GBH at the time you need the plans doing!

Currently in kwik fit having the Aircon regassed in Toby ....i would not normally let these guys put water in my washer bottle but they seem to be the cheapest locally for regass at £60 ....
They aren't filling me with confidence so far as they couldn't start the van ...4 times he cranked it over before i had to go out and tell him to press the imobiliser button...then they couldn't open bonnet ...and now hes been in to ask me if the ports are in the front or the back 🤦‍♂️

I never use Aircon ....im Scottish ...an open window does me fine. 😁

And there we have it ...they now tell me they dont have enough gas to do it 🤦‍♂️which to be honest i smell bullshit ...

Does anyone ever have any success with kwik fit ...this was actually the 3rd branch i had to contact as the 2 closest to me said they couldn't do a van

Well that was a waste of a morning.

Never going to get this vario welded up at this rate ...ive been in and out this driveway with toby more in the last fortnight than i have in 3 years.

Cant get anywhere else to do aircon today ... possibly get another garage to di it tomorrow .

Took it a decent run on the motorway and just as i was coming back off the sliproad the bloody lights came on 🤦‍♂️

I ordered a sensor on friday which hopefully should be here Wednesday/thursday but im honestly about at the stage where i just give in .

I thought you would be close enough for them to travel to, I didn't think you were that far from Edinburgh.

The first one was dalkieth which is probably about 25/30 miles from me but the other ones I couldn't see a local branch.

Ive just booked it in to ATS though for 2pm today so ill cancel the other one once its been done.

Watch they don't just fire in gas from a wee cannister as Halfords were going to do on my car before I stopped them. I'm sure you know this, but re-gassing should be done by a big machine that adds lubricants to the system as well as gas. My local auto shop has the right equipment thankfully.

Nice morning for a run out though Tam, worry about the aircon tomorrow. It's those poxy intermittent lights that you want rid of. I've had mixed luck replacing sensors, it's been a cheap fix, or the crying in me beer scenario, fingers crossed the new sensor sorts it.
