Is it the case that if we take our laptops over to the lounge area we will get a decent connection?
Ivy

You can get a 100% connection but if you are sharing it with 100 others you will get a slow data rate. It's a two part problem.

JohnH is saying that they have many WiFi transmitters and if you aim an aerial at one away from laptop range you'll get better performance but do you want to pay£50-£100 for this ?

When you think about it, 1500 pitches so any internet connection could be slowed down by a factor of 1500 ( worst case ).

So get one or two who want to run iPlayer and it will all go pear shaped very quickly.

or a slingbox cos they do eat bandwith:Eeek:

I don't want to pay £50 or £100 for anything. Does this mean I can say goodbye to the internet? Should I just get Skype for calls and forget the rest? I thought that when it said there was free wifi I would have all time wifi with no problem?

Ivy

Would you care to reccomend a specific piece of kit:BigGrin:I assume you are saying we can't get wi-fi on the pitches ?

Mike

You missed my point completely. The WiFi coverage here is excellent and you can receive the internet all over the site and it is completely free.
However, the connection to the internet is just like a single water pipe into a house. Great to run one tap, then someone flushes the loo and one of the children decides to have a shower while Dad or Mum starts to water the garden. It is then that the water pressure decides to drop dramatically.
Each of the Marjal routers is like that. The more people using Skype, downloading last night's soap opera etc. the "pressure" drops and it helps to be able to switch to a router which has only a couple of vans nearby.
Certainly not worth z\going out and buying anything extra. 90 per cent of the time my netbook picks up the nearest two routers and no problems.

Hi Ann
We have a cycle group that departs the reception area every Wednesday at 10.30 and using the Camino roads where ever possible cycle to quite a few local towns for a coffee and back.
The area is covered with loads of these Camino roads but unfortunately I have yet to find a map that shows any of them.
We go to Callosa, Cox, Granja, Sant Isdre, Catrall, Dolores, Almoradi, Rafal, El Relengo, Albatera and a complete loop around La Hondo national Park.

Stu

Hi Stu, I remember I told you about giving you a topographic map of the area. I haven't been to the site recently, so I haven't had the chance. I don't know when I´ll be going to the site, so I scanned the map for you here http://i39.tinypic.com/nq47qd.jpg

Alternatively, we have the website of the Spanish National Geographical Institute, where you can see Spain in a more detailed way than google maps (also in English) The sat pics were taken before the site was built, but you can figure out all the surrounding cycling paths. Link Removed

Cheers

Ivy

That's the problem with salesmen, yes free WiFi, but they never specify how fast it is.

Your reception idea may work very well for speed, with luck there will be few people Skyping or iPlaying on the reception area transmitter.

FYI Withing this year Crevillente's town council is supposed to develop many proper cycling routes in the campsite's surroundings together with other nearby towns.

Concerning the Country Music Festival you will be forced to enjoy http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150154186225498.337263.43323800497&type=3 here you can see some pictures of last year's edition. It gets bigger every year. So get ready for some serious line dancing! Yihaaa!

It is either that or JJ's "slap some paint on a left over piece of plywood and sit and watch it dry...."

Raimon, I just saw on Facebook that the tickets for the Costa Blanca Country Music and Linedance Festival are almost sold out. Does that mean we will miss it. Or are we a captive audience anyway :Eeek: Jane

Brilliant site.

Was your new campsite built on the ruins of an old failed one then ?

Was your new campsite built on the ruins of an old failed one then ?

I heard that there was a campsite that was built illegally and then had to be knocked down. The new Marjal is all new but there was definitely something there before. Jane

i noticed the google map is dated 2012?

It lies.

I first looked when this thread started in 2011, same satellite view then.

I think street view has changed, I remember the odd signpost on the site. It looked like and abandoned site from the road.

When I first saw the lines I thought vineyard.

Hence my bored puzzlement right now.

We'll have to get Time Team there.

There was no site there before, what was there was a palm tree nursery.
The Marjal Group wanted to build the campsite since 2004, but it took long to get all the necessary permits and also the financing. The trees were planted 2-3 yrs ago I think, maybe that's why many people think there was site there before.

It was a palm tree plantation. The palm trees have been replanted in the next field and provide a welcome backdrop against the mountains. You have the green trees then the hard landscape behind, perfect for the sunset behind.
I was asked about the bungalows. Today I had a look at them, both sizes are fabulous in the quality of fittings etc. The larger version is more suitable for couples who are travelling together but both sizes are suitable for families. All are equipped with wifi, satellite tv, dish washing and air conditioning. There are alarms to reception in case of emergency. As you can see from the plan they are very near to the facilities.

A question for Chris Green...

So the chalets all have dishwashers...

You have a chalet...

I was wondering....

Do you do a "collect and deliver back" service?

JJ

Hi Raimon

I have looked at the map site link you sent me and also the JPG map unfortunately neither show enough information about the Camino roads. The Michelin on-line maps shows some of them if zoomed right in enough but again fail to show surface material (Tarmac or dirt).
I will try to make up maps of these from my exploring of the area that we can then offer to cyclists to use as there are some great route's around the camp site and out to local towns. I have heard there are Regional maps down to 1.120 that will show these roads hope to find one soon.:thumb:

Stu

"Free birthday bash"....What "Free birthday bash "?...Am I fast approaching my dotage ?
