Brittany ferry to Santander was £900 :Eeek:
.

Don't faint 'till you've *accurately* calculated the Long Way Down. ( He you bought him a bike yet ? ) .

Calais - 1147 miles
Santander - 550 miles

How much do you reckon 597 miles, twice *really* costs you ?

Fuel, wear and tear, food, sites. Got to be £1 a mile.

Yes we realize that Brian n have worked out the figures etc, but driving down we will be able to see more of France and perhaps even ski a bit........ also John was very sick on the ferry to Santander last year :Wink:

Could somebody please tell me where to get a discount code so I can decide our method of crossing. We will be going Dover to Calais return but don't know whether to go by tunnel or ferry.

Ivy

Ok Funsters, the codes are out for Sea France, The best ferry company IMO for crossing the channel!

just booked mine for the first Ski trip in February, Half term week for a measly £58 yep £58.... that's less now than when we started motorhoming all those years ago.
Inflation? what inflation...

any how Louise at sea France sent me the email and here's the code(s)

EBOMOTOBVP

SEPZINEBVP

Good luck and enjoy your crossing :thumb::thumb:

Loujess these are for SeaFrance if you are driving to Spain compliments of Paul / Haganaps thread

That's fair enough. Unless John has a medical problem I think sea sickness is easily cured. I'll have a packet of qwells handy.

I forgot to mention the time factor. If you are tight for time, being youngsters not yet retired, this is another plus for Santander.

Ski a bit eh !

Give me a bike with brakes any day. But if you must, Granada is not far away.

I did try my best to convince him to do the ferry route but although it was a very rough crossing being winter, he said the only way he will go is to drive through France

"Youngsters" I like that :BigGrin::BigGrin:

I forgot to mention ....no John hasnt bought a bike yet

I am safer on skis than a bicycle :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

ughhhh Chris :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

Could not be worse than the vomit cruise, Newcastle-Norway we did one November. Going out I threw up for England. I wanted to die. On the return I got an industrial strength pill at reception and never felt a thing, only problem was crap food. It made me slightly drowsy, bit like a glass of whiskey but cheaper.

Surefire cure !!

The only surefire cure for Mal de Mer is to sit under an oak tree !!:Rofl1: :Rofl1: :Rofl1:

The deed is done.

We leave Portsmouth on 1st March and return via St Malo on 10th April.

Looking good, spring is a colourful time of year. It will be particularly colourful at a FUN meet.

are you sailing to Santander or St Malo going out Brian?

Out to Santander and back St Malo.

The strange logic being BF were holding £650 of our cash and this used it up nicely. But, the idea of driving up through France in the spring is also a pleasing one.

I think Brisey was also going for the Mar 1 sailing, not only is it cheap it gets in at 07:30 so gives us a decent day on the road.

Can you change your handle to "Cava" for this occasion, damned good it is too, we prefer demi-sec being northern peasants, slides down a treat.

Playing on Maps, it offers 3 routes to our destination. All similar distances and one via Madrid. The thing about the Madrid on is it goes through Aranjuez with is quite a sight and has a good campsite. Or you could have a peek at Toledo.

Just got a Santander Return quote for £764

So for £664 you get a fully serviced pitch for 2 or 4 nights. Site will all facilities and then some. Magical transport of your MH for 2000 miles.

Look at it like that and it's the bargain of the year.

Even better for you, the port is nearer to home.

I was wondering, as the 'other' Marjal is an ACSI site (in the book 15 euros a night this year) and we know that the 2012 book is going to be banded at 12 / 14 / 16 euros....... where is that extra Funster discount? Jane

If they just offered the higher band as some do, we aren't doing too badly especially with the pool use thrown in.

There's about a dozen FUNsters on offer and a premium site of 1500 pitches, under those conditions FUN does not carry a lot of clout does it. I'll bet Raimon is quite pissed off at the low numbers from here.

I wonder how many other "meets" we'll bump into. Do we take our portable trebuchet and Darkside ammo to settle old scores in a foreign land ?

I don't think Raimon will be disapointed, publicity for his site here has been massive, with plenty of long term bookings coming his way because of it. A few more ralliers would be nice, but smaller is definitely better when it comes to rallies:thumb:

Some would not agree with you Jim, at great personal risk I filmed preparation for the darkside rally. The cunning swines put on fancy dress to try and fool me, they failed.

Looking at the bigger picture. I managed a good booking for two months at the Marjal Eco and my wife got a good price at the CC booking for the ferry. We go out on the 8th January via Santander (outside cabin) and come back Caen to Portsmouth on the 22nd March. It is something called an ITX fare and includes 7 Camping Cheques as part of the deal. All in for 520 GBP.
So we are escaping the cold weather for two months for less than 1000 GBP.
If the coming winter is like the last one the heating bill would have taken a large chunk of that.
Plus, of course, I get to put names and faces together of all the people that have booked with MHF.
I for one am looking forward to both the voyage, the site and the fun driving back through the Pyrenees (Somport) and then France.
John

Looks like a good meet, can I make it I wonder?

Course you can Roger. General question now, I have just tried to book online and they want my credit card details to make a debit of 50euros for a deposit. Is it safe to put my details online like that or should I do it over the phone? Also, why did they want to know who we were going with so that they could put us together? I've said it is MHF.

You looked like a man with a good few miles left in him last time I saw you, mind you, what you've been up to since I don't know

But could Marjal take a wildman ?

Ivy

I booked off the advert and it didn't ask for a deposit. I did get an email confirming this but at full price.

ODD !

Was the credit card request a proper CC transaction on a secure screen ?

I must just have been doing that Brian as you posted it seemed quite straight forward in the comments box I put that I was with fun gave the dates and they said they would be in touch shortly , will wait with baited breath.

Confused of Nottingham. Do we now have to book individually with Marjal ?

Have we had the final rate confirmed ?

I booked online also from the advert.... no request for payment but having problems over the days , they misunderstood the date and booked us in for 295 days:Rofl1::Rofl1:

they did give us 30% discount for this which was
295 days
6.80 € per day for the pitch
1.60 € per person / per day

been trying since to get it corrected, but difficulty is they keep asking am i with a club ???

3rd day of corresponding now, also am i on my own or with family, yet it is there on the confirmation all correct only the number of days

But they have asked me, "Are there more members expected to come to that rally? Because we haven’t gotten a list with the amount of pitches.
I am just confirming so that we can put you and the other members all together"

I seem to get a reply in the morning :thumb:

I sent off a reservation request, via the advert, on Thursday.
I stated my forum name and that I would be attending the MotorhomeFun rally . As we are staying on at Marjal after the Fun rally finishes, I quoted the rates that Raimon has given us and asked if these would also apply to our extended booking. I have had no reply as yet.

Brisey.

Yes book first and then fill out the form on Jim separate thread

the cost has been mentioned in an earlier post, depends on how long also
