LV looks like motorhome insurance is finished

It could mean they are insuring pvcs
I thought that. But the converter has bought the vehicle so would be a re-seller not the manufacturer???
We pursued LV last year ahead of our renewal following a similar thread on here. We were assured by them that they were continuing to insure existing business on a multi car policy. They were true to their word, and we were happy with the price. Plus, the service they have provided over the years that we have been with them has been first class. I really do not want to be forced into changing.
We keep ours at a farm. It is very secure, but is certainly not Gold Standard. Taking that, and the value of it (+100k) it looks like our options for insurers is somewhat restricted.

LV are suggesting A J Gallagher will be in touch nearer the expiry but I know nothing about them

I have just looked them up. If I have the correct one, they are a massive outfit and cover all types of insurance and risk management. The website indicates to me that they are more commercial than domestic. We have plenty of time before ours is up. I am just trying to get ahead of the game as opposed to scrambling around if LV do decide to dump us all.

Why wouldn't any company do that! They're a buisness not a charity
Whilst insurance companies do need to make a profit, customers need to have cover otherwise no one will have insurance and that would be a bad thing.

As an update for what it is worth, my multi car policy is due for renewal 21st August( that is for the car and Motorhome). I had to call them about my travel insurance so whilst on the ‘phone I asked the question about vehicle renewal. The answer was that for “self build” van conversions they would not insure them. Current customers ( me) will be notified no later than 90 days before renewal date on the decision whether to renew or not. I asked for the decision now but he could not give that answer at this point in time. I also asked on what basis insurance would be given or not and again an answer was not forthcoming. So I will know before the end of this month whether or not I can continue with LV!!! Not sure who I will go with if they decline.

They sound more like Confused.com. There is hope for factory built and registered motor caravans then? I hope!

I totally agree but it is reasonable if they have a loss making part of the business in an area where there are alternative providers to stop covering that risk. The alternative being to increase premiums to the level where they are profitable which no doubt would get the usual replies about rip off Britain

Another insurer has been suggested to me. I stress not recommended. Victor Millwell.

I have just lifted this from LV's website. It seems to read they will not insure anything up to and including coach-built MH's. It doesn't mention A-Class though.

This is interesting as LV have just renewed my policy for my PVC in spite of a claim that has cost them £3500 for the damage to my van and probably similar to the other motor. It did go up from £550 to £720 though.

That is Comfort, loads of Funsters insured with them, good company.
We were with them for 13/14 years, premium didn't even go up after a claim. Only changed because they were uncompeditive on the new van.

whats annoying is its a legal requirment to have insurance
It's not when you have a not at fault claim! Imagine if there was no legal requirement and lots of drivers in beaten up cars not bothered if they scrape other vehicles if they can get away with it. Or if you get injured and the other party has no insurance and no real assets so you're stuck with the loss. Insurance premiums would also have to rise for people deciding to take insurance as they would cover unrecoverable losses.

They are very big world wide and in the holiday home and caravan park insurance market.

LV covered the "is this a refusal that I need to tell new insurer about" in my letter. 3rd line from bottom.View attachment 1057510
That's interesting. Our policy with LV is due for renewal 4 weeks before yours and we haven't had a similar letter yet.

Perhaps it's just certain types or models that they are no longer insuring?? Is yours a coachbuild, A Class or PVC? Ours is a PVC.

If we put the make of our motorhomes and the type maybe we can work out how they are being sorted by LV
I'll start.
Rapido PVC renewed 10th May.

Edited to add not part of multi car policy.

Hi Lazyboy,

Please would you let me/us know if you do hear from LV in the next week or so.

I’m with LV multicar and my renewal is in 87 days as of today and I haven’t received anything from them yet.

I’ve got my fingers crossed but am not overly hopeful they’ll offer a renewal from what I’ve read on here ☹️

Edited to say… our van is a 2024 Ducato PVC by Consort Motorhomes.

Thanks.
