LV looks like motorhome insurance is finished

I was on a multicar for the car & van (A class), renewal due September.

Purchased our Knaus coachbuilt on Thursday & they declined to insure it.

A real shame as Ive been with them a few years and always been very happy.

I think I better chase them up - my renewal is due in about 7 weeks time (50 days), but not had any letter from them yet about continuance.

We had the LV= letter yesterday, advising that they can no longer provide cover for our Moho! 2 cars + Moho have been covered by LV= for +7 years and we have had no issues - covered until early August.

At least they have given lots of notice!

Both of us over 70, anybody got good idea who else to get cover from, preferably without needing a compulsory tracker!!

Thanks,

Hi Lazyboy,

Please would you let me/us know if you do hear from LV in the next week or so.

I’m with LV multicar and my renewal is in 87 days as of today and I haven’t received anything from them yet.

I’ve got my fingers crossed but am not overly hopeful they’ll offer a renewal from what I’ve read on here ☹️

Edited to say… our van is a 2024 Ducato PVC by Consort Motorhomes.

Thanks.
Today, we’ve just had the email from LV saying they won’t insure our 2024 Ducato PVC and suggested Gallagher will quote instead.

They’re happy to quote on our two cars (multicar) and house that we also had with them but I’ll do some checking around and see what we can get elsewhere.

I know Campervans are probably in the minority on multicar policies but I’ll guess they’ll lose quite a bit of business from people like myself who have cars and house with them.

Sad day as they were good and cheap. ☹️

I have just lifted this from LV's website. It seems to read they will not insure anything up to and including coach-built MH's. It doesn't mention A-Class though.

Interesting!

They renewed my VW Campervan (professionally converted, but not by VW) 2 weeks ago.

I even phoned them up to amend the details, and got a separate speculative quote to see what my daughter would cost to add on, no hint of not covering me.

What is your vehicle class on your V5?
Ours has make = Mercedes-Benz
Model = Hymer (B-MCI with all the numbers)
Body Type = Motor Caravan

As a further update, 91 days to renewal and no letter yet!!! Hopefully one doesn’t arrive today. The guy was quite adamant that it would be a MINIMUM of 90 days prior to renewal date if they are declining.

Our email arrived with 85 days to go ☹️

N1.

Van with windows.
I would guess that they are working totally off what the classification is on the V5 document and it is a case of Computer Says Yes/No

Out of interest I looked up our previous MH's V5. C-Class MH

Make = Adria
Model = ..............(Blanc(
Type = Motor Caravan

There is a section D2 that shows a value of B. Below that are some alpha numeric codes besides variant and version. The Hymer has different values against this section.
The vehicle category is blanc for the Adria and M1 for the Hymer.

My understanding is that, had we still been in possession of the Adria, we would not be able to get insurance.

It might help someone fathom out why they have been refused.

At the risk of tempting fate ( shouldn’t do it really as normally the only luck I have is bad luck), there is now 86 days left before my renewal is due and I have not had the letter from the Spanish Archer, El Bow. So I can only assume that LV wish to continue insuring good looking youngsters like me!!!

There does seem to be no rhyme or reason for who is being renewed or not, just AI flexing its muscle.

Well spoke too soon. Just had the email!!
Referring me to Gallagher as others have had.
They will still insure the car which was on the same policy. Bugger!!!
I emailed Gallagher about a week ago asking them to let me have their quote sooner rather than later… heard absolutely nothing yet 🤔

just renewed mine today, phoned up as had a new credit card they asked if they could mark for automatic renewal next year, no mention of not insuring motorhome

That’s really weird!

I wonder what’s going on 🤔

I’ve just done a search for LV= refusing to give insurance and found this from 2021 it not a MH but gives a reason why it might help understand how they are choosing who not to insure.
Thank you for choosing to insure your LANDROVER RANGE ROVER AUTOBIOGRAPHY V8 525 AUTO with LV= over the past year.

We’re writing to you to let you know that, unfortunately, we’ve had to make some changes to our underwriting approach for your vehicle type.
Over the past few years, there’s been a rise in thefts of the LANDROVER RANGE ROVER AUTOBIOGRAPHY V8 525 AUTO, which you may have read about in the press. As a result, we’ve seen a large increase in the number and cost of claims we’ve received for these types of vehicles and have made the difficult decision to stop insuring them.

This means at your next renewal date on xx xxxx 2021, we won’t be able to offer you a renewal price for this car. We will send a letter confirming this again in advance of your renewal date, the letter will explain that this is due to a change in our underwriting criteria. Please rest assured this won’t be classed as your insurance being declined, so you won’t need to declare it to other

Just got a quote from Caravanguard and it was dearer for just the moho than my multicar policy with LV 🥵
Yes thats what happened to us this week though we've changed the van for one a bit younger.
Ended up going with Comfort, CAMC were actually the cheapest quote & NFU almost double at £718!

What is your vehicle referred to on your V5?

Now 41 days until our renewal and still no letter from LV. We're registered as a Motor Caravan on the V5 too.
It's about now I'd ordinarily be expecting to receive the notification. Perhaps we'll get lucky like chatteris

I gave up on them two years ago when my premium trebled on renewal and they told me in May 23 that the underwriter didn't want to cover the risk, i.e. Me and 10yo Elddis.

Mines registered as motor caravan and the have renewed mine on reading up on the thread I reckon it’s either based on make of motorhome or type of base vehicle taking age into account as well🤔

Got my letter yesterday, 84 days before renewal 😢

2 vehicles and 3 houses with them as well, so who’s everyone going with these days

Tag axel with £140k ish valuation
