LIFE AFTER HELGA !!!!

No milk no tinned anything but soup- hardly any meat OR Quorn -no fresh counter food today in Tesco here but I got all I needed huzzah[ veg and one jar of marmite- it was rationed Oh Please!] Staff were taking items OUT of peoples trollies if they had more than 3 .. I was in trouble as I didnt know there were red chevrons on the checkout floor nor that these meant you had to stay behind them to avoid contact with the checkout people /other shoppers in the queue- when I backed up as instructed I bumped into man behind me . Argh. But everyone friendly and cheery - unusual for here !! xx

Well I’m back,,, I have to say that at 5.45 I was 83rd in the queue outside Asda! I was embarrassed that I had to do it!!
Items limited to 3 per person, which I saw on a couple of occasions, meant nothing to a couple of families all with trolleys, getting the same stuff and going to different tills! Greedy bastards!!

I got 3 boxes of Yorkshire, 2 bags of sugar, for me,, 2 large packs of toilet roll, 3 packs of spaghetti, 2 blocks of mild cheese, and 2 jars of coffee for Stewart, I rang him and he’s well pleased,, his youngster with diabetes is living at the moment on cheese and pasta, bless her!!

I don’t know what’s going to happen next week, but as long as the builders merchants stay open and I can work, I will be fine!

there is also a shortage of cigarette papers, they told me at Asda, and I could only buy 2 packs!! Fags and tobacco next to vanish,,, I also thought, rightly or wrongly that I’d fill up with diesel as well, which I did,, cause my brain is telling me it’s going to get worse! Rediculous,,,,

anyway I hooe your ok,,, Xxxxx
I usually fill up when we go shopping. If I fill up before we go in I will get a fuel discount voucher, if fill up after I get a coupon for something I have just brought. Never win , haha.

I might get a chance to use some of my 5,000,000,000 toilet rolls now. Someone at work a few offices away had symptoms yesterday (his dad has it apparently) so they closed the toilets and kitchens he'd been in, as had I.

Didn't worry too much about it, went to tennis last night, one of the 7 guys I was due to play against is a working dentist, I explained what happened so as to be upfront and he said I should go home and self isolate for 14 days. Called work and they said ok last night.

Today, as there are connectivity problems with so many people trying to work from home, over 40,000 on the network I need to connect to and that could rise to over 70,000, they said it would be ok for me to go back to the office. I said that would be fine, if they were overruling a medical professional I would return once I had it from them in writing. All of a sudden that wasn't what he was saying (on a conference call with 6 others) and I should stay at home.

I pointed out that if it was a fire a few offices away, would they say it should be ok for me to carry on working or would they wait until the fire brigade had confirmed a false alarm or the fire was out? This is actually worse than a fire as it's pretty unlikely you would take a fire home with you and kill some family and friends!

Stay safe everyone :love::love::love:

We have seven drivers of with symptoms now and one manager who’s aunt has sadly died from it his son also has it
We are still operating as nothing has happened no close for a deep clean our only safe guard is the customer no longer has to sign for a parcel .
So we go up to the block of flats dial the number press call as everyone else who has been there does ,we then pull open the door walk to lift call the lift as everyone else does then go to flat and ring bell.
It’s all a farce I went to over 80 different peoples places yesterday if I had picked it up at the first everyone would have it

Well I’m getting a bit worried about this virus! Just watching sky news, Italy , shocking, what a hit their taking, frightening!! Now their warning us !! And we’re still not locked down! I don’t know if I fancy going back to work!!

tgeve written to 65.000 ex doctors and nurses etc to come back on duty, and I bet they get a fantastic response,,

knowing my luck, when I catch it, I’ll get dr shipman!!!

On a serious note!!!

im the only person to have sat in my van, since I’ve had it,,, I’m the first and only person to live and sleep in my flat, in fact I’ve only had two visitors since I’ve been here! And Stewart only has stayed for half an hour now and then!
I work outside, not really within a mtr of anyone else,, I can take my own supplies, cup etc to work and keep quite isolated from anyone in my general day to day activities,, only when I go to buy supplies am I really close to others! Am I in a good situation do you think ? Is my insular life a benefit or curse ???

You can only get a virus if you can spell its name.

I think you'll be ok...

Well I was talking to Stewart last night ( on the phone) and he’s been watching the news for the last week,, he’s been off work due to his nipper being in hospital and now home with diabetes type 1 ,, now he’s genuinely worried for his family!! I can understand fully his thoughts, 4 kids, 1 asthmatic, 1 diabetic, he has made the decision not to work at the moment,( he works in a wholesale distribution centre) but he was on good form and we had a chuckle,, mostly about blokes like me, self employed builders etc, who are now told to take the pressure off of our situation about corona by being welcome to apply for universal credit!! Lovely,,,5/6 week wait for £90 ish a week! There must be 5 million self employed like this in this country,,, Is there going to be anymore help for us!! Anyway, our chat focused on the opportunities that might be available after it’s all done and dusted,,, apart from the people with money, getting in on the stock market rise, expected,, can you give me an example of the positive, oppertunities, that may be around afterwards ,,, Xxx

I could reply to this in a few ways, but you would only fall out with be, but if I may just say one thing, just keep laying the bricks, leave fancy schemes to folks that can afford to lose if it all goes tits up, you are a master laying bricks, stick to it, put your feelings about other things behind you and make your money with what you know.
Good luck with what ever you do and keep safe. (y)

There isn't going to be work about for the likes of me and Ian, work is dropping off already, there is no point building houses if no one can get a mortgage.

What people need to do is forget that they've made their money and can ride out the storm and think back to the days when they had to juggle things to pay the bills, now try doing that when there is no work about and the government have just shit on them for being hardworking self employed people.

Just had a text from the builder I’m doing this extension for!!
No building inspector till next Thursday!!!

short staffed apparently! Oh well, such is life,, Isolation for another week! Lol. At least I’m keeping out the way!! X

Have you got the qualifications to be building inspector? Might be an opening there.

Why will building stop?

Why!?, because that's what happens when crisis hits, developers stop building, those who've got money hang on to it until uncertainty had passed. You don't think those developers just carry on building hoping things are going to come good soon, do you. One of the first industries to come to a alt when the nation looks dodgy is the building trade.

How out of touch, you ain't going to get a job these days as a building inspector without a degree. It's not like the old days when lads worked their way up off the tools. Jeez!

Never seen so much building going on as there is around here.

actually in countries that are in lock down, building is one thing that's still going on.

You can claim housing benefit as well, so that should help with your rent, and may get more if you have no income and savings under £10,000

Post a link to when that has happened in a time of crisis, I.E. the financial crash in the U.K. What goes on in other countries doesn't put salt on the porridge of British builders.

It's only going to get worse mate, the government are telling people to work from home, keep their distance from other people, and we all know councils will be the first to take heed of these instructions. Trying to get an inspection will just get harder and harder until things settle down.
