LIFE AFTER HELGA !!!!

It's only going to get worse mate, the government are telling people to work from home, keep their distance from other people, and we all know councils will be the first to take heed of these instructions. Trying to get an inspection will just get harder and harder until things settle down.

I shall build the two storey extension in my lounge and get it delivered!

It’s about time building regs worked on a self certified scheme with some sort of register monitored by councils and random checks carried out.

I used to know a building inspector that would be more than happy with me taking pics on my phone, sending them to him and if I got a thumbs up reply, I’d carry on! Worked well, no holdup or waiting about!!

We have done the same many times, it helps being on the right side of the head of building control. We have even had standard inspectors overruled when their requests for timber specs etc have been ridiculous.

Makes me laugh when they turn up on site with nothing but an I.D badge, no tape measure, spirit level or steps/hop up and just stand in the middle of the room to check stuff!

Somewhere along the way trust between authorities and contractors was lost, years ago I used to deal with the EA on a regular basis, I could ring our local environmental officer and explain the asset I was working on had failed and caused a pollution, the conversation would go a bit like this:

Me, "Mike, it's Egg from Anglian Water, we've got a pollution going on.

Mike, "what's going on?"

Me, "pumping station failed, raw sewage in the river"

Mike, "do I need to come out?"

me, "it's up to you, but we've stopped the pollution, and we've got lads in the water starting the clean up".

Mike, "any fish belly up?"

Me, "not yet, mate"

Mike, "ok, give me a call in a couple of hours with an update"

Me, "ok, leave it with me".

That would never happen these days.

only when I go to buy supplies am I really close to others!
Latex gloves & a mask should see you ok
Am I in a good situation do you think ?
Better than most
building is one thing that's still going on.
If it is going on here it theoretically isn't legal unless they can isolate themselves from each other

Is it still the case ,like it use to be yyears ago that having put in the card/made an appointment ,if they didn't turn up you just continued?

I only had four inspections on my two story extension.

Footings, trench fill, damp and final ??

They know who can be trusted and who can’t ?

Ian, if you’re going to get Universal Credit you should be able to claim on a lot of things-Optician, Dentist, Prescribed meds, most/some things are free. There is a lot you can get!

They put two boxes of gloves out and that was it but they split easily

what about garage gloves? Not great but better than nothing?

Question,,,,

does anybody on here know anything about the benefit system? Universal credit etc?

I have never been on benefits and I don’t expect to be on them ( hopefully) but I am interested to know what’s involved!! Or is it a minefield, and not easily explainable!!

Ian I don't know a lot but been looking for Grandson it would appear the sooner you apply then it is back dated to the date you applied rather then wait until you are stuck then apply and have to wait.
I'm sure someone will give a much more accurate discription.

That’s why I’m asking chas,, I’ve no idea what’s occurring with it!

and as a single, self employed British male chas, I never thought I’d get a housing association flat in a month either!! Lol

On the plus side,,,, land might be a bit cheaper afterwards? Anyone fancy forming a group for a house building project, perhaps 2/3 houses,,, Wouldn’t take long to get my pension sorted like that! Lol.

I should hold fire for a day or two Ian.
Following the announcement about paying 80% of wages for employed people he is expected to do something similar for self employed.
There are rumours the amount may be based on your last years earnings though.............in your case that might not be good news.
Hold on though and keep up with the news.

Richard.

that helps !!!! Lol
Sorry wasn't intending to put a downer on anything just saying how it was, but now they are saying tenants are getting 3 months free rent, don't know how you go about it, but why are you worrying , as long as you still have your job you are ok.
