Lenny's Wandering around France again.

Keep my drinking under control  when we open a box.
Good idea, we once drank a 2-litre box (or was it 3-litre) in one night it ruined the whole of the next day for us we were so ill. I then started filling a wine bottle from the box, then stopped drinking wine and switched to a couple of ciders(y)

Open a wine Box??????
What's wrong with using the Fresh Water Tank? ,Re-fill at local vineyard, I thought that's what all discerning wine lovers, MH owners did, Much faster through customs on the way home. ;) :giggle:
Any alcohol to declare Sir? Non!, right on your way Sir.(y)
Well I can dream cant I? knowing my luck the water pump would fail, or the red wine would eat through the pipe seals:rolleyes:

Check out rocamadour, Belves and sarlat, lovely places👍, saint chamassy is also nice, very small of the beaten track near le bugue
Done most of them a few times been coming to or through France for over 40 years.

You need to shop in Lidl.
We did, nice chicken, 3 large chicken skewers marinated, around 7,50/ 8 euros in French Lidl , bought many times over the last few months , good quality but still double the Uk price?
Saying that have just eaten the best sausages ever from a Spanish butcher, 3,29 for 4 large top quality sausages, was very pleased with that👍

We spent a couple of night here a few years ago, cycle path at the back of the Aire and takes you into Sarlat.

I have to say I will have more confidence going back to France in the autumn/winter now as I have all the info and advice from you guys on here, places to stay etc.

We're here, too. Which van are you? We're the Hymer B588DL, about half way along the site.
Moving on to les Eyzies tomorrow. We"re not struck on Perigueux, I'm afraid.
And thank goodness that screaming child in the flats has now shut up🙂.
We're in the Hymer Exis 564 about half way along. Haven't been into town yet. There's a market tomorrow and the medieval centre .
Will look at Les Eyzies but planning a couple of days in Sarlat. Didn't hear the screaming child, though.

Just parked on bottom road, visited for the afternoon, yes there is one particular nice turn, just before the bottom, ( where the village train turns around, bit of patience needed there.

Sea trout, extremely difficult to get now and so much more expensive than salmon
Easy to get and cheaper than salmon in France, Spain & Portugal Lidl normally have it, never seen it in UK.

Sea Trout are a North Atlantic game fish. I,m surprised they are for sale in France. They are basically a brown trout that feed in coastal waters and return to rivers to spawn. I have seen brown trout for sale as sea trout as they are almost identical in looks. The difference however is in the taste. Sea Trout are awesome to eat and very different to brown trout.

On our way to Spain, clermont ferrand today, planning on stopping at a aire just past Millau.

I did find the trout on sale in France pretty much tasteless, I bought it by accident thinking it was salmon, as it looks like salmon, but definitely doesn’t taste like it👍

After the Airbag ECU feasco we finally got away 3 weeks late. So it's going to be a short trip, 3½ weeks in France then ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle, got to be in Barrow in Furness on 4th Nov., then wander back to the warmer south.

Already upset Mr. Wallet, filled up with desiel on the way to the port, flipping French strikes.

They have opened the new express way out of Dieppe dual carriageway/Autoroute all the way to Rouen now.

Stopped tonight at Courville-sur-Eure, and to keep Charlie's chaser nerves in tack its a nice Free Aire.

Some of the comments on Park 4 night say there are long termers on this aire that seem to have taken over the site is this still the case.
Have a great trip.

Was sitting outside the bar on the hairpin when a coach came down took 20 minutes to do a 55 point turn with someone stopping traffic coming up tail end of coach right over the small wall🤫

All sea trout you see for sale in France is farmed. By law I don't think they are allowed to sell any type of trout unless it has been farmed. This is to protect wild stocks.

I suspect it isn't sold in the UK because most folk wouldn't know what it is. Salmon and cod in batter is the only fish many Brits ever eat, if they eat fish at all. The position is very different in countries like France and Spain.

The difference with farmed fish is whilst they are bread for the table and safe to eat, they are nothing like their wild cousins. A wild river caught salmon like the fresh one I caught many years ago below, is now worth worth its weight in gold. The flesh is not the deep pink or red you see on the fishmongers slab in the supermarkets as this is due to colouring put into their food pellets, to make them look more attractive to shoppers. A wild salmon will have a much less attractive pink colour tinged with a bit pf pearl essence. Almost impossible to buy and very, very, expensive. 1.1/2 llbs, around £250.0 As for the taste, well just like a true river run wild sea trout...........Awesome.

So why is a tin of pink salmon cheaper than a tin of red salmon?

My travel thread is getting very fishy.
Your quite right and my apologies for sticking my oar in. I'm trying to reduce the amount of posts I put on here and so I will excuse myself. Have a great trip !
