Lenny's Modding the new Mini Gin Palace 2

Well I've got it all working and installed, once I got an adaptor and swapped the USB cables all was well.
The Orion XS shows up in devices & you can configure it but doesn't show on the local home screen but it does show on gui.v2 but you can only see that remotely as gui.v2 doesn't show on the local screen.

I was going to have a play with Node Red but some plonker didn't install Venus Large, I thought I had, trouble is I've got so many versions downloaded on my PC must have clicked on the wrong one, so that's a right pain to strip it all down to get at the SD card.
I have put a short USB extension lead in so may be able to do it via a USB stick.

Need to buy 3m of brown trunking, as I need about 7/8 inches for the cables in the back of the cupboard.
I fitted a Hella socket in the base and have my router plugged in at the moment.

The temperature controller that wasn't working, I got another one from Amazon that was the same, it was the instructions, they had crossed neg & pos. I had fitted the same one in Tam's van I checked that.

Had to get it all installed this week as I'm having an OP on my hand on Thursday, so that will stop play for a week or two.

Well done for getting it all sorted out and working at last, and it does look very neatly installed, but what exactly do you get extra from the display that isn't already contained in the standard Victron Connect app?

Pain in the butt on your phone, you have to log into each device separately, need to be in Bluetooth range. When you have Venus.os running you can view from anywhere you have a network connection.

Are you keeping the old screen display (lego blocks) on the Rasperry Pi?
My display is different on the cerbo, I think it’s summat to do with GUI mods, whatever that is🤷‍♂️👍

No but as I said I need to get Node Red running then I can change it.

👍 but in the words of ultravox “it means nothing to me” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Genuine question, wouldn’t it be simpler just to get a cerboGX? Yeah they might cost a bit more, but it’d be in and done by now🤷‍♂️
It all looks good btw👌🏼

Where is the fun in it, spend over £300 and no challenge to get it working sounds boring. :ROFLMAO:

Not sure I understand why it's such a pain in the butt.

The screenshot above was taken earlier. I'm sat on the sofa in the front room. The van is on the drive. Phone connects effortlessly to everything by Bluetooth. All information is displayed together for all four Victron devices on the main Victron Connect splash screen. Only need to select individual devices if I want to faff about or change settings.

If the RasPi tinkering adds extra functionality then fair enough, otherwise I'm struggling to see what you've gained.

Very nice - practical and professional finish.

So in your local screen menu under settings - display/language you have no option to choose v2 or classic?

Node red is good stuff - but you've done a lot already!

So does yours look like lenny's only with more data, or like this

download (1).webp

Which is Gui V2 - Lenny's is classic....

Can be around £180 I think - (Bimble solar sale), or the S for around £150. - I'd happily come and make it dificult for you!

On node red - can you change the console that appears on your screen? - Didn't know that I'll have to look, at the moment I have a separate "dashboard" for the stuff I've messed with....

For me the van is 10 miles away, and bluetooth doesnt hack it! Also the Multiplus only shows on VRM. (because I spent the extra £££'s on a cerbo rather than a Pi and didn't buy the multi's bluetooth.:giggle:)

So now I can sit in the office, check the van hasn't moved (GPS puck), look around on the Webcam, check the batteries and temps/soc etc.

Would be great to have it on the drive though......

Victron Bluetooth is such a short range, I can pick it up by the window in the dinning room no chance in the lounge at the other end of the house.
Also you have to connect to each device separately to get all the info.

I can change it in settings on the local screen but gui.v2 only applies to remote on a Pi.

I get the impression you can, hope so that classic screen is very clunky.

Had a look - think you can locally in a browser pop in the dashboard address, but since the cerbo doesnt have a browser its not possible. but you could have a link on your phone or pad.

I really only used the dash because I could monitor what the results of my tinkering were without going to different screens in VRM/Connect, so for when were on the van I will setup a dash for the pad I have, since I tend to use that anyway....

Yep I have the top display showing on my cerbo, I can have the bottom one if I choose though👍
You're using GUI v2, not gui Mods - you have the latest - Lenny HB will be able to catch up eventually when Fray Bentos get round to releasing the later versions for the PI!
