Lenny's Modding the new Mini Gin Palace 2

All went pants today.
Connected up my panel, temperature controller for fan no work, it's got power but doesn’t turn on.

S+ signal is coming out of my panel but the fridge is not changing to 12v, probably a connection I used alarm cable not the best stuff to connect to and I was doing it in the freezing cold yesterday.
Also having problems programming the shunt relay.

One thing works I can see the Multiplus on the Raspberry Pi that is via a Victron Mk3 Dongle but I can't see any of my other Victron gear.
I'm thinking maybe the UART/USB hub can't drive a 5m USB cable.
Just thinking about it while typing, led was coming on when the USB cable is plugged in but none of the data LED's on the optical drivers were flashing so possibly too much volt drop over the cable to power the hub.

The Multiplus Dongle is connected via a 5m USB extention cable, I'll try connecting via that.
If that works it will be another day getting another cable through.
If not even worse I'll have to extend the 3 UART serial cables and mount the hub behind my panel.
Sorry not to be able to help - I used victrons ve.direct to usb cables for a couple of things, but dont think they are 5m, or you could try one...

I'm worried about the fridge thing though, having got one of the Cerbo's relays set up to open and close based on the Shunts SOC, that I hoped would connect the bridge in the DS. So hope you get yours going.

What's the issue with the shunts/BMV relay?

Just sorted it, I want the relay to turn on at 90% and off at 70%.
So I set the set value to 90% but when I set the clear value to 70% it reset the set value to 70%.
So you can't have the set value above the clear value so have to set them the other way round and use the invert relay function.

Ah - simpler for me - I just have a single SOC% over which the fridge runs (hopefully) on 12v, and under which it'll revert to gas.... If on EHU then I guess that will take priority because of aes, got to decide what to do with the inverter due to my fridge wiring but it is rarely on for more than a few minutes so may just ignore it.....

Trust me to over complicate it but with my way the battery's get a good chance to recover, also have a timer set to one hour on ½ off during the day to give the batteries a chance.

When using the S+ when on EHU the batteries will be high so there will be a signal on the S+ and the dumb Dometic firmware prioritises solar so it will switch to 12v. I have a switch inline to cut the S+ feed, last van I fitted a mains powered relay but that was a bit OTT.

The Pi is very sensitive to voltage supply. I fitted a buck at 5.1v as my screen is fed over a 5m USB cable. Also Pi Bluetooth doesn't have a terrific range. I fitted an additional BT dongle onto a spare Pi USB port. Hope some of this helps.

I've got a 3amp power supply 6 inches from the Pi. Pi is mounted on the back of the screen which is a 3.5".
I think it's the UART hub that is the other end of a 5m USB cable that is the problem.

I was thinking about adding a timer just a bit more work in node red no actual device, and only because you had..... I was planning just to bridge the cbe ds jumper to avoid cables to the fridge???
If the inverter thing gets to be a pain then i'll add a relay to cut off 230v to the fridge when the inverter is on so aes will stick to 12v but I will do my best to put up with it. The fridge supply also supplies a 3pin socket by the hab door I think so that would go off as well, but since we never use it I can live with that rather than running new cables.

All dead easy to remove back to standard then if a new owner wanted it

Thinking about your on off settings I might do the same, mine might keep switching back and forth around the setting otherwise, only a very quick change to do it.

I know nothing about this stuff, any chance there is some interference to the pi from the screen?

That's what I did.
I Rewired the kitchen socket as that was on the same circuit as the fridge and connections inacessable & have now found out socket by the door was on the same circuit so I've got to rewire that. They are the most used sockets. Kitchen for kettle and one by the door for the induction hob outside.

Before I rewired the fridge I kept driving off with the fridge on gas, no chance of that when on auto.

The data lights aren't coming up on the UART hub, looks like not enough power for the optical isolators.

Sometimes I think what’s all this fuss about when I’m looking at my cheep 12v compressor fridge that’s been truly keeping my beer and ice cream very cold on my two 85amp gels for the last 6 months…☺️😎
But yours is only a little fridge the big ones are a lot more power hungry.

Get a longer cable for the hob and plug it in the garage! I hate running cables, perhaps I should get some of those prodder things and do it properly. I'll think about it for a while.....

We all know you eat like a horse Lenny ..😆 but my 90ltr fridge freezer is plenty big enough for two…☺️
Just about coping with this little 133 Lt one after 160lt ones. The fridge is OK but freezer is small.

I see it as being healthy, it makes you get out and go to the shops more often, keeps your steps up…😂👍🏼
More concerned about the amount of frozen mussels, & clams I can take home from Spain. 🤣

I would have understood more if it had been written in Japanese  ;)
The things I do for you Bob, here you are.

That's better.

Got the shunt and solar working on the Pi, not showing the XS but I expected that as the software is not compatible yet.

I had a 5m USB C cable from the hub to the Pi and a 5m extention USB cable for the Multiplus Dongle. Used a short lead to connect the hub to the USB extention cable and it works.
Hopefully the Multiplus will work through the other lead need to order a C to Female USB adaptor to find out. Hopefully the Dongle won't be so power hungry and it will work if not I'll get another extention cable the same as the one that works.

Copied your separate on off conditions (selectable on the dashboard).... Cant make my mind up about a timer though, might see how it goes, only worried about battery temps really, so shoudn't be an issue......

I believe you have more solar right now than us down here 😬

And besides when I get my new 280a lithium when I get back any inadequacy will disappear…😆🤣
Only getting a small one then.:ROFLMAO:
